PNC Bank PNC Bank Does Not Support Disabled Veterans Perry Point Maryland
I was the victim of identity theft after a fellow veteran (which I thought I could trust) stole my PNC check card, car and drivers license while I slept. He proceeded to use my card in Ohio, and cost me several thousands of dollars in fees and stolen funds.
I immediately went to both the MD State Police, and to the Northeast MD branch of PNC. The MD State Trooper went to PNC and confirmed the report. I also had documentation that I was in the MD Veterans Administrion Hospital receiving treatment for wounds suffered in Iraq.
Despite all this information, PNC refunded only a portion of the funds, and allowed me to "Opt In" and overdraft my account in order to pay for rent, food, insurance, etc. However, after the assistant branch manager told me on two occasions that the investigation was on-going, and I should receive approximately $1000, which she said she would expedite. Furthermore, she said that the approximately $380 in overdraft fees should be reimbursed.
Initially, the assistant manager was helpful, but seemed disconnected from "back office" processes. Almost two months later, I was repeatedly told that the investigation was ongoing. Before this incident, I had an average balance of ~$4000. Afterwards, I was consistently in the negative awaiting an outcome.
In late July, after repeated visits to PNC branches, and an immense amount of frustration, I was told I was already given the provisional credit, and that "keeping track of my account information is my responsibility." There is several problems with this statment. First, I cannot access the level of detail on PNC Online that the branch representatives can see, and therefore, I could not come to the same total of fraudulent charges that they quoted me. Secondly, they locked and closed my account without warning, so my disability payments are still in limbo and I am currently in the Veterans Administration Hospital unable to go to a branch in person...therefore I am broke. Thirdly, I worked for Citizens Bank for two years while in college, and I know how and do balance my check book. I also know that Citizens Bank would have refunded my money much faster and provided me outstanding customer service along the way compared to the borderline offensive and incompetent service from PNC.
Despite numerous voicemails and emails left for the Northeast branch manager, she has not returned my calls in almost a month. Because of her actions, I was reported to Chexsystems, and cannot open a new account online for any other bank. I truly believe that after quoting me incorrect information, she is trying to cover her "six", and closed my account in order to get rid of me vice pass on the truth to higher management.
I am broke, completely frustrated, and currently recieving treatment for injuries sustained in Iraq. This unprofessionalism and extreme frustration with PNC is not conducive to my recovery, and is a blatent slap in the face to current and future disabled veterans. I will not recommend PNC Bank to any veteran, let alone my worst enemy. I will continue to provide details of my experience with PNC to veterans organizations and to the countless other veterans who sacrificed so much to protect the freedom of the institutions who take it for granted.
