To Whom This May Concern:

I just wanted to pass along some information about what I would classify as the worst, most bias process I have ever undergone in my life -- the process of becoming a police officer for the Mesa P.D.

I hope that you will pass along this message to prevent others, such as myself, a long, painful, and ultimately empty dream.

It started one year ago, when I finally decided that I would follow in my father's footsteps. My father worked for the Illinois State Police. I felt that becoming a police officer anywhere would yield the same qualities my father held.

I went through the written test and passed, next on to the physical, and passed, on to the interview process and did very well. Then it was on to the polygraph and passed. The total process took about 2.5 to 3 months including background checks and employment verification. All were positive. I was told that the next step was boot camp. I was also informed that if you have heard nothing or received nothing in the mail that "No news is good news".

During my process of waiting, much had transpired. My son was born. I started a new job working as a Systems Network Analyst (I have been in the technology field for over 10+ years, including the Air Force, and decided that it would be beneficial to keep up to date on my computer skills so that I may pursue working in the "computer crimes" department within the Mesa P.D. ).

After 6 months had passed (9 months total from the first step), my boss called me into his office. He asked me what the Mesa P.D. questionnaire was all about that he received in the mail. I had told him that while unemployed, I applied over at the Mesa P.D. for employment. He showed concern at first and asked if I was planning on leaving and going into the police department. I re-assured him that this was not a concern (what else could I really say unless I wanted to jeopardize my job in this economy).

After that, I called the Mesa P.D. back up and told them that I was still interested. A detective got on the phone and I explained to him that this was a new job and that my boss would not send back the form. If he knew I was looking, he would look for another individual to fill my spot. With a newborn son, I was not going to risk this. The detective told me that "This is between you and your boss, don't include us in this." I agreed, however I asked him to clarify why they contacted my current place of employment. His reply was, "This is the last step in the process and it has to be done, so you need to be upfront with your boss." I requested my H.R. department to fill out my questionnaire and fax it back to the P.D. in confidence. They had no problems with this.

Two to three months went by and no reply. Finally, I called the department on 10/28/02 to check on the status. They replied, "if you have not received anything in the mail then that is considered good news." They concluded with telling me that I should not be calling to find out my status. I agreed, however, I was concerned that it had been over one year since the first step in the process, and over 4 months since they sent out the employment verification to my current employer --"the final step before boot camp". They responded specifically, "Applications are only kept for a period of one year."

On 10/29/02, I received a letter postmarked ( 10/28/02 ), stating that I have not been selected and to try again.

In closing, I am glad that I did not inform my boss that I was actively looking per the detective's advice, or I might be looking once again. What did I learn from this whole experience? I learned that the hiring tactics and the attitude of the Mesa Police Department, do not represent the qualities of excellence and honor that I believed were to be found within the Mesa P.D. It was just a dream that would never become a reality. A cold and painful lesson.

Some free advice I would give to the Mesa P.D.:

*Be Up-Front with the applicant about the length of the hiring process.

*Communicate to the applicant that if he/she calls for a status, their application will be looked upon negatively.

*Tell the applicant that the Mesa Police Department Hiring Unit will be contacting their current employer, regardless of the box being checked NO to the question on the application, May we contact your current employer. This will help the applicant understand that they must tell their current employer that they are seeking employment elsewhere, and prepare themselves for the risk of loosing their current job without an actual offer being extended to them from the Mesa Police Department.

*Be Honest with the applicant that even after passing all steps in the hiring process, he/she is not guaranteed to be chosen.

Are you unaware of Mesa's reputation as the "toilet paper" of decency?????

AUTHOR: Raoul - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 23, 2004

Mesa has NO real law enforcement, just
local flakes who make "deals" with the
gangs and crack and meth dealers.

Why do you even want to associate with
filth like these?

They rag on working people. They
victimize the citizens. They are scum.

That is the city of Mesa, Arizona.

Forget the application and the
experience. You don't need it.

Just look at judges like the n**i
Eppich and s***k like officers Cantrell
and Gaffney and... The list is endless.
You don't need to be one.

What goes around comes around. There will be a price to be paid for their errors and corruption.

AUTHOR: Skip - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 05, 2004

Why the hell would anyone with
any decency want to even associate
with Mesa P.D.?

$40,000 a year to start? Well,
they are overpaid, and there are TOO
many of these filth, but $40,000 is
way too low a price for a man's
very soul.

What goes around comes around.

Soon, these criminals will have to
pay for their sins, and these are
MORTAL sins, in any religion, to
include lying and murder, among many
others at least as revolting.

Why did it surprise you, in this
rottenest of venues, that the
"hiring process" was tantamount
to madness?

This is standard operating procedure
for Mesa, which is not interested
in quality personnel, but is concerned
who you daddy is, and who your preacher
is, and how subservient you are...which
is why most of those over whom this
city manager and his scumbag minions
are at once incompetent and cowardly.
This is especially so of this idiotic
"police department", which does no
police work, but which mercilessly
pursues enemies of the "chosen few"
and their "special recommends"...

Crooks? Nope. Too busy driving
around to stick their noses into
something which can only lead to
trouble.

Malfeasance, corruption, unlawful kickbacks and bribes via the unconstitutional use of eminent domain, flat out fraud

AUTHOR: Martha - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, June 07, 2003

Mesa may have 400,000 occupants (it has only a FEW citizens, in real terms...), but it is run
like the worst possible combination of a hick town and a large, corrupt sewer.

The Police Department--and even inferring it serves any law enforcement function is patently ABSURD--is just a symptom of what is wrong with this most dishonest and fraudulent of all venues.

Mesa, unfortunately, has lots of people who need to be locked up, and a very high percentage of them are police officers and other toads who serve the criminals in the City Manager's Office.
Mesa has twice the police it needs, and because none of these gutless cowards is willing to get his/her fat butts out of their patrol cars (which already cost TOO MUCH) and do some real investigation of real crime--MY GOD, THEY COULD GET HURT, OR WORSE, NOT RAISE ANY REVENUE--real,
hardcore criminal activity, especially crack cocaine and crystal methamphetamine, are overrunning the dump.

Malfeasance, corruption, unlawful kickbacks and bribes via the unconstitutional use of eminent domain, flat out fraud, judges who REFUSE to enforce ANY law which might benefit a consumer or cost a slumlord a nickel, the unconquerable "GOBN"--that's Mesa!!

Better not to be associated with corrupt organizations. Bottom line=GET RID OF THEM!!!!

Intrigue, mystery, hogwash, and the "illuminati" of local government

AUTHOR: Walter - ()

POSTED: Monday, November 25, 2002

Though these rapscullions are not from
the same religious traditions, their machinations
and conspiracies remind us of Byzantium, the
Court of Louis XVI, and of the book 1984.

Expecting anything in MESA to follow rational,
sensible forms is way too optimistic. Power
here is held secretly, all job appointments
go through the "civil service" fiefdom of
the Hutchinson-Luster conspiracy, which
makes its decisions based solely on keeping
their corrupt criminal conspiracy in the
driver's seat.

Suggestion: go way more public. What they
did to you may or may not be illegal, but it
is surely weird, bizzare, disgusting, and
insane. In other words, it fits in Mesa.

The more their noses are rubbed in their
leavings, in public venues, the more
the so-called "civil service" city manager's
overpaid dweebs of death will begin to flinch,
until they are finally replaced and/or
(hopefully) driven completely out of town.

Their rubber stamp council and the joke of a
"mayor" (idiots, you actually elected this
flunky) need to be confront, every day, in the
most aggressive ways possible, with every tidbit
of corruption and demented procedure.

See "City Manager".... Look in the dictionary, where the word corrupt appears, there should be a picture of Hutchinson....

AUTHOR: James - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, November 20, 2002

Procedures are like this because, ultimately,
Mesa's City Manager, former lap puppy to Charles Luster, makes all personnel decisions on Mesa P.D. Why a city with a mayor even HAS a city manager is, all by itself, suspicious, but here, it was apparently a way for the most corrupt members of the local cadre to assure influence in civil service matters long after their toadies and lackies had become a minority.

Thus, it is what used to be called a "cult of personality". Mormon applicants are put on the "fast track"... Certain minorities are located, but doomed to a situation of little or no promotion. Backstabbing is encouraged. Only internal rules count, and one's relationship to supervisors. If one merely falsifies evidence or reports or perjures oneself on the stand--WHICH MESA OFFICERS DO MANY TIMES DAILY--this involves citizens, who are nowhere on this organization's pecking order. Obviously, therefore, hiring procedures must be obtuse, almost mystical, with fogbound excuses and totally opaque dribble used to cover the various realities of locating those who are easily controlled and used in the p.r. and other scams in which Mesa P.D. is immersed.

Simply put, this is an organization with which you DO NOT NEED contact. They are very
like the Mafia, only more dishonest and corrupt.

And they take responsibility for NOTHING. Not their line of work, you see.
