Found program to remove the nasty popcorn code

AUTHOR: Lorraine - Geek Consumer Advocate :-) - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, October 27, 2006

Hey guys, I did some searching last night and found a website that is offering a program that will remove the popcorn.net code from computers. It's much more involved than MovieLand was to remove manually, so I was happy to see someone made an .exe file to help people.

http://www.spywareremove.com/removePopCorn.net.html

That URL is where the download is offered. There is some information there on the connection of MovieLand and popcorn.net.

Nice find on that injunction Steve. Looks like these guys aren't going to stop until the government puts a stop on them. Hopefully that will happen before too many more people become their victims in this latest scam.

You need to dance the "security tango"

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, October 27, 2006

There is a website here in Rochester put toghter by the IT guy at a local university for cleaning up this kind of crap from your computer.

If you Google "security tango" it will lead you step by step in cleaning up spyware, malware, etc off your system. It uses a couple of products (Adaware and Spybot) and takes you step by step how to remove this stuff.

Hope this helps.

Lorraine is correct! Popcorn.net is the rebirth of Movieland - Moviepass

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, October 27, 2006

Lorraine,

I thoroughly checked these fools out. It is the same operation! They offer the same crap and get this, NO PHYSICAL CONTACT information on the website. You have to install the "software" before you can even contact "customer service".

AND, the registrant info has some of the same name and address info as Movieland and Moviepass!
Does Triumphant Videos, Inc. sound familiar?

Thoughts of MovieLand dance thru my head ...

AUTHOR: Lorraine - Geek Consumer Advocate :-) - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, October 19, 2006

This sounds like the same type of trojan code the MovieLand, MoviePass, and MuviPaz people were getting on computers via a popup or 'free stuff' offer. It ended up being quite a few steps to remove it and the spyware programs didn't pick it up for some time. You may want to do a search for the reports on MovieLand and MoviePass (there wasn't many on MuviPaz) and read thru the most recent ones on this website. You will find information posted that explains the removal process. I'm pretty sure you will need to do something very similar to get the nasty code you are having problems with off your computer.

You have spyware

AUTHOR: Dave - (Canada)

POSTED: Thursday, October 19, 2006

Clicking that popup (and or the 3 day free trial) installed a program on your machine. That's where the pop-up comes from.

You need to clean your machine. SpySweeper, CrapCleaner, BHODemon... Microsoft even has one out now (although I haven't ever seen it find anything).

But, DO NOT download anything that offers you a free scan. They will of course find "issues" and suggest you pay money to have the issues cleaned up.

And you're alread at that point with the porn pop-up.
