We sent Portfolio Lead Systems a few thousand dollars for business loan leads in 2015. Dan Carey originally asked for $10,000, but I said no way without knowing the quality of their leads. We received 4 or 5 leads, then they stopped sending them blaming slow traffic or waiting on new relationships. These were all lies. Their model is getting you to sign up with their CRM system, not provide leads. After a bunch of calls and emails to Dan Carey (owner) I could not get them to send my money back, and just went on growing our business, funding our clients, etc and just took the loss.
Today I received a LinkedIn request from Camilla Mills from Business Union Financial DBA BUF Financial. The name sounded very familiar, so I checked out their website. It says they are a direct lender. No Way!! It's the same cast of characters from Portfolio Lead Systems. Dan Carey, Camilla Mills, etc. They are not a lender. They are going to try and get you to sign up for their CRM, then take your money via a series of lies. Wesbite says they want to help loan brokers, but trust me, they are the exact opposite in reality. I would know.
Just stay away from these clowns. They have no clue about business loans, business lending, or corporate consulting. They'll just take your money and you will get nothing in return, just like what happened to my firm last year. My firm has been around 10 years and we have funded hundreds of millions in business loans and lines of credit. We are reputable, these people and Dan Carey are not. I'm writing this so that others in my industry don't hand over their money for nothing to these sleezy companies. Don't make the same mistake I made. Avoid Portfolio Lead Systems, Business Union Financial, and BUF Financial.

This response is, unfortunately, a typical frustrated lead buyer. It's apparent that he didn't get the results that he expected. However, lead generation isn't as simple as writing a check and receiving guaranteed business. Leads are just that: leads (i.e. potential business). The problem here is that he did receive leads, but rejected almost every lead that was sent to him. In fact, he received more leads than he had paid for. This is the life of marketing and one of the many reasons why I personally got out of it.
You have so many people like this guy that think “If I pay Google (or some other marketing firm), I am going to get guaranteed business.” And then when they don’t get the results they expected, you have sites like this one (making millions by the way) to try and ruin someone else's reputation. And to be frank, this is why I stink at customer service. I don't believe the customer is always right. Our staff said this guy kept on rejecting every single lead that we sent him; if a lead didn’t answer his call he wanted a refund.
Unfortunately, he didn't get a guarantee that every lead received would end up a sale. There’s no way we can guarantee that every lead we send is a guaranteed sale. Marketing is a numbers game. But I guess you can't really blame this guy, this is the world we live in. The sales team blames the marketing team and the marketing team blames the sales team.
This sales guy blamed our marketing for the lack of their sales teams’ results. After the close of Portfolio Leads business, this guy was offered to work with BU, at no cost, to help fund any clients for his firm. But as you can see here, it was rejected. As an update, we have funded now over 450 clients through BU. We have over 300 brokers like this one that I would think most are really happy working with us as their small business lender but are probably equally frustrated with their lead generation companies. Just call our team at BU and they can produce many of them as references. And by the way, the offer still stands to help your business, at no cost!
