This story starts in 2006. We lost our car due to Hurricane Wilma. I had received good reports from a couple friends who owned Hyundai Santa Fe. We live in the Fl. Keys and it is over a 100 miles one way up to the mainland (Miami) and the Hyundai dealer. We paid them a visit and could get no deals, plus they were rude and not the kind of person you want to deal with when you are putting down $20k plus of hard earned cash.

We took a trip to Va. and at the same time purchased to Hyundai Santa Fe's from a very nice dealer up there for a good price and received great service.
Thats the first sale Potamkin South, Hyundai missed out on, PLUS we made sure we told all our friends what kind a dealer they were, which I am sure cost them a few more sales.

Fast forward to summer of 2008. I stopped in to Potamkin Hyundai again to look at a used vehicle they had on the lot. Now this was period of time when gas here was $4.50 a gal and cars or trucks weren't selling. I ask the price of the vehicle in question and was given a totally out of line high price. I made them a offer of a fair and more reasonable price, which they turned down. I told the salesman that they would not sell it and it would sit there till they took it to a dealer auction and sold it for a lot less than I offered.. I left at that time.

Move forward again to Jan 2009. I again was in Miami and stopped in Potamkin Hyundai to look at a Hyundai minivan. After a lot of haggling back and forth and us getting up to leave numerous times, and after a few hours of badgering by their high pressure salesman we did settle on a fair price for my Santa Fe as a trade-in and a selling price of a last years mini van we really liked. It had less than 9k miles, story was a guy ordered a new top of line Hyundai car and they let him drive the van till it came in.

We noted at the time, it was late, just before closing, and the salesman were in a rush to get home, and we were also since we had over a 100 miles to drive back to the Keys. We noted and so did the salesman, actually 2 of them, that the overhead console was broke, and the spare keys, plus the auto door lock remote clicker were missing and the mats which come with the vehicle were missing. He said no problem just come back the next week and he would have all that stuff ready and take care of it. We ask him are you sure because for us to come up and be here when the dealer opens we have to drive up, spend the nite in a motel and then drive home after they service the car. Thats about 300 miles round trip, plus cost of gas and motel and food. He insured us everything would be there and he would order it if it wasn't.

Over the next week we called 4 times. Each time the person didn't know what we were talking about and said they would check and call us back, also they would make sure the parts were on hand. NOT A SINGLE sales person called back and each time we called that person was conveniently our and we had to talk to someone else.

The weekend came and we made the trip to Potamkin Hyundai and found out NO ONE had ordered a single part. They tried to give us a set of way to small mats that did not fit and said nothing else had been ordered, but they would take care of it right then. They did have key blanks and they did make us a spare key, and after we raised holly hell about no parts being there like we were promised and them giving us cheap floor mats, one salesman did go in the back and get us a new set of the original mats that was suppose to come with the vehicle. We left that evening with the promise that everything would be ordered and we would be notified when it arrived so we could once again make the trip to Miami.

Well its been 2 weeks and we have not heard a peep from them. So today, Feb. 19th we called, again the salesman knew nothing, gee whiz no surprise there, we called parts and found that none, nada, not a single item has been ordered..... We are beyond pissed to say the least. The pushy salesman made the sale and got our $$$ now they could give a hell about us and what they promised us. We are still making calls and trying to get a e-mail address or phone number for the CEO or owner, which no one who works there seems to know, or at least they want give it to us.

I have to say the guys working in Parts Dept have been very helpful and nice to us, BUT they can not order the parts needed till the salesman comes over and does it. Every time we call we are shuffled to a different salesman, seems the last one is not there? and once again we have to explain the whole story and once again they promise to call back with info and as of yet and we have talked to 8-10 people and over period of 4 weeks not a single person who has said they would call us right back, has..

I would NOT recommend anyone purchase anything form any Potamkin of Miami car lot, used car, new or in brand they sell. They are liars, cheats and DO NOT do what they say, or stand behind what they say. DO NOT trust them, not one bit. No matter how good the deal sounds, somehow they will screw you.

Nuff Said.
Don Byrd.. still looking to find the owner and still want my car made right..

UpDate to Potamkin Ripoff.. 2/24/09

AUTHOR: Dwb - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Again we called the dealer last week, got the runaround again, promises to call back, never did. We got hold of a guy, George George, I swear thats his name, who said he was the head of all the salesman there, we once again explained what was going on to him, he turned it over to another "salesman", Jean Carlos to take care of it. Two times he promised to call us back, never did. Friday evening we called Jean Carlos again, he said the "parts are in, come on up and bring the car Saturday". It was too late to drive up Friday nite to be at the dealer first thing Sat. morning, and the service and parts are only open part day on Sat, so we opted to wait and drive up Sunday evening (140 miles), again spend the nite in a motel ($62.00 plus $32.00 to eat supper in Miami), and be at the dealer, Potamkin early Monday (2/23/09) morning.

The salesman don't show up till 9:00am, and we arrived at 8:45am, so I went to parts dept and spoke with Tony, who has always been very helpful, Tony said all parts orders have to come thru him, but he checked just to make sure and once again we had been lied to and NO parts had been ordered by the salesman like the had said and promised numerous times since 1/31/09. I was beyond pissed, here we again for the second time had drops 140 miles and spent over $100 and thats not counting a tank of fuel I would have to get before we headed back home.

It was 9:00 by now and we went to the showroom floor and sit at a table in the middle waiting for the sales manager, George George, or some of his henchmen and fellow liars to come in. We ask the secretary who sits on the floor and answers the phone where the one owner who is usually there is and where his office ie. She said he, Steve Gutstein was not in yet, but showed us where his office was.

I was armed with a micro cassette recorder this time and recorder every lie the salesman told us and said, for future use. At 9:20 the salesman who were suppose to show at 9:00am were still not there, nice hours... At 9:25 3 of them showed up, Jean Carlos and Humberto Hernandz, and the "boss", George George. We ask Jean Carlos why he had again lied to us, he said no the parts were in to fix our Entourage van, I told him NO they were not we had spoke to Tony in parts and NO parts had even been ordered and this was the second time we had made the almost 300 mile round trip to come up to be lied to.

Next we cornered George George who said he would take care of us..? I pointed out on the showroom windows on 3 sides, left, right and front, there were big signs saying "Complete Customer Satisfaction is #1", I pointed to this and told George George WE were the customer and WE were not happy, or satisfied...

George said he would talk to Tony the parts guy and get it straight, I said we have heard that too many time and we want out new van fixed NOW today and don't care how you do it. I told him that there was another Entourage van on the lot just like ours and they would take the parts, center console and key remotes, off it and install the console in my van and program the key remotes for my van. He said he would have to check, I told him there was no checking to do it.

He called a mechanic named Jesus who took my keys and minivan to the shop and then got the new van off the lot. In five minutes he had the console swapped out and in a couple more minutes the key remote programed for my entourage van. I thanked Jesus the very nice mechanic and Tony the parts man for all their help, they were nice and did a good job, BUT the salesman are all not worth a d**n and not to be believed.

It took us many phone calls, 2 trips for a total of about 600 miles and 2 nites in a motel at $62 and meals and gas to get the van fixed.. They could have taken the parts off the new van on the lot the first trip up and saved us a lot of trouble, instead of lying to us and jerking us around.. Will I every go back to that Hyundai dealer, or recommend them to anyone the simple answer to that is NO, NO, NO.

I did call the Miami branch of the BBB, and also last week sent a e-mail spelling out what has happened to the owner, Steve Gutstein and never received a word, call or e-mail back from him, and since mine is not the first complaint I can only guess he know and condones what is going on in his dealership.

DO NOT buy a car from Potamkin, buyers Beware..
