Garage door would not open Sunday afternoon; car was stuck in the garage and unfortunately could not open the door manually. I quickly search for garage door repair on the internet and found Precision Garage Doors in Pittsburgh that had service on Sundays. Their estimated arrival time was 8-10pm that evening and actually showed up between 5-5:30pm. The technician had called and said he was running early. I now know why they were available on such short notice after obtaining a quote. Keep in mind, I have no idea what a garage door repair cost and had no idea what was wrong. The technicain quickly pointed out that I had a spring that was broken and that it needed replaced. Price to replace 2 springs: $438. The technician also provided me other more expensive options that included replacing "rollers" and all other working parts related to the spring. The cost for these other options ranged from $600-$800. I opted to only replace the springs. I agreed and went upstairs while the work was being completed. I decided to google "costs to replace 2 springs on a 2 car garage door" and found  prices ranging from $150 -$225 for not only the springs, but a maintenance check and diagnostic testing. I continued to search and ran across Angie's list and an article from garage door experts who also indicated the cost to be in that range as well. I asked the technician why Precision's quote was so high. He claimed there products were the best and would last 28-36K cycles compared to cheaper products their competitors offered. Keep in mind, their high-quality products came with an impressive 3-month warranty. Wow, a whole 3-months... that definitely backs up their claim that these were high-quality. I asked if the price was higher because it was Sunday and the technician said no. Well, after pointing out all the facts that I found, he decided to remove the service charge of $75 reducing the cost to $358. That didn't take much haggling. Most likely since they mark-up the springs 200-300%.  I did receive a call from the manager the next morning. Unfortunately no reduction in cost. I told me it was safe to remove me from Precision Garage Door' mailing list.. My advice is if you have to time, to checkout Angie's List. If I wasn't in a bind, I would have done the same; most likely would have saved me another $100 or so. Unfortunate there are so many service companies out there wanting to rip-off the consumer. Gillece is another one, but don't get me started. Good luck, I hope this review helps. Live and learn....

Wrong order

The price sounds high to me too.

I can only suggest that you do all the price research BEFORE you call, get a quote, accept it and authorize the work.  Then you would know the ball park amount before you call.

It's a little late now.
