My in-laws signed up with Preferred Law the end of 2012. The first thing they were told is to 'Stop making your mortgage payments' - their fee with Preferred Law was $780 a month for 5 months and then $280 a month after that. During this past 13 months, Preferred Law assigned my in-law's case filed to at least 4 different case workers. My mother-in-law would leave message after message requesting updates on her account with no response. Bank of America would call my mother-in-law to tell her that Preferred Law was not answering any of their requests for information and when they did they were late and or incomplete.

In December of 2012, I took over the case for my in-laws to see what was going on with Preferred Law, why, after paying all this money had no modification come through, and what exactly the status of the modification was. I found out that because Preferred Law told my in-laws to stop making mortgage payments, they were 13 months and $24K past due. Their home can go into foreclosure at any time. I spoke at length to their file handler with Bank of America. She said the reason the file has never gone to an underwriter for modification review was due to Preferred Law never complying with any requests they faxed, mailed or called in. Their calls and messages were never returned. When information was sent in, it was late, or missing information and they were unable to use it. Since taking over the case in December, I was able to fax in all the information requested, in a timely manner, and the file is now with an underwriter awaiting a modification decision.

I submitted a refund request nearly 2 months ago - I sent email after email, made call after call, attempting to get the status of the refund. I finally received a call today letting me know that they were not going to 'authorize a dime of refund' to my in-laws. I am now contacting our local news station who investigates local scams.

My advice - STAY AWAY FROM PREFERRED LAW - they are a scam and a ripoff - they take your money and provide little to no service at all.

If the company is registered with the BBB then you can go to them and they will research the facts.  If they determine that you have been wronged then they will give the company a lower rating until the issue is resolved.
