I sent three gold rings with diamonds to Prestige Gold Buyers after referral from another company I do business with. The offered "the highest payout and a $50 bonus". If not satisfied return payment within 10 days and they would return the gold.

I sent them the rings in the packet they had mailed me. After a week or so I received a check in the mail for $10. Obviously I was not satisfied with this payment. So I returned the check the very next day.

After not getting the rings back from them for three weeks I emailed about it. This is a copy of it:

I did everything in accordance with this from your website:
 "There is no obligation to accept our cash for gold offer. If you decide not to accept, we will send you your items back free of charge. In addition, if you originally accept payment and then decide to keep your cash for gold items, you can return our check within ten days and we will return your items to you free of charge."

This is the response I got back:

When contacted by her via phone, please verify your address and we will make sure a new payment goes out first thing in the morning. Thanks! At this point your gold has already been refined, as we refine every payment that is not received by us within 10 days of the date printed on the check.

Nowhere did they deny that they had received the payment back. Obviously at this point I'm getting upset. So here is what I sent back:

If not then I guess I will need to take this matter to the Internet, the authorities and news stations due to this being unethical business practices. I did everything according to your guidelines and should not be penalized for playing by the rules you set. I must say it is rare to find a company operating as you are. I'm completely disappointed in your companies lack of ethics, professionalism, common decency and respect. 

That email got me some results, I thought. Here is what I got back:

It means more to us that you are satisfied with our service and refer your friends and family than to make a profit. On this particular transaction, we will actually be losing money. Thank you for your time.

Of course I trusted in them to do the right thing at this point. After not hearing or receiving anything from them, I emailed them on July 14:
Sent: Thursday, July 14, 2011 7:22 PM
Subject: Re: Return of my gold
I have given your company the benefit of the doubt until now. You said via the email below that you would be sending a check out to me for $125 on 6/29. Today is 7/14 and I have yet to receive the check. Considering I live in the same state as your company I find it incomprehensible that if you had kept your word and mailed it on 6/29 that I would not have received the check yet. Please let me know within the next 24 hours what has happened to this point and what you are going to do to rectify this situation. 

I have yet to get a response from Prestige Gold Buyers via email or phone. I did however receive back the original $10 check that they had mailed me. I received this on 7/25. I mailed it back to them again on 7/26.  At this point they won't respond to myself or the BBB.

Obviously I wasn't willing to accept the $10 to start with and I'm not willing to accept it now. What a disreputable and unethical company.
