I made a hotel booking through Priceline.com for 3 nights. Priceline states that the booking cannot be changed, refunded or cancelled and is paid in full in advance.

This led me to believe that the hotel room will be booked for me for 3 nights, which I believe is a fair assumption.

I didn't check into the hotel the 1st or 2nd night. When I check in on the 3rd night, I was told that my booking was cancelled because I didn't check in on the 1st night. I had to pay again to stay at the hotel on the 3rd night.

When I contacted Priceline, they stated that the hotel is not required to keep my room if I do not check in on the 1st night. This requirement is not stated in the Terms and Conditions.

I accept Priceline's conditions that bookings cannot be changed, cancelled or refunded. But it was not made clear to me that I had to check in on the 1st night or loose everything. On the contrary, the conditions made me believe that the room will be reserved for me whether I show up or not for the entire length of the booking since I have paid for it in full in advance.

Actually, this is stated in the terms and conditions:

"If you fail to check in to your hotel on the day of your reservation and do not alert the hotel, the remaining portion of your reservation will be canceled and you will not be entitled to a refund."

But that doesn't mean that what happened to you is legal. As far as I see it, you reserved a room for three nights and paid for it. A term in the agreement stating that your purchase can be taken away if you don't use it contradicts the term that requires you to prepay. A crafty lawyer could subvert this policy with no problem.

Just because they say you are not entitled to a refund doesn't mean that you actually aren't. What a contract says and what the law says are often two different things.
