$49,500 That what a Pro Golf Franchise costs

I currently own a golf store that used to be a "Pro Golf."

When buying a franchise you are supposed to receive some type of competitive advantage.

That may be advertising, brand recognition or vendor relationships.

Pro Golf does not provide you with any advertising help whatsoever. Outside of the southeast & west coast they have absolutely no brand recognition.

Pro Golf cannot guarrantee you accounts with major golf industry vendors such as Titleist, Footjoy, TaylorMade, Callaway, Ping Cleveland & Nike.

Over 65% of all golf balls sold in the United States are manufactured by Titleist. By far the best selling product in any specialty off course golf shop. Most new Pro Golf stores do not carry Titleist golf balls.

In the year 2004 Pro Golf opened 20 new stores. Only 4 of those stores are still in business today. Many former Pro Golf owners are now personally bankrupt.

Jeff Griffith director of franchise sales is the greatest used car salesman of all time.

I was a Pro Golf franchisee for years until quite recently when I sold my business and retired to Florida.

When I was made aware of this posting my first reaction was one of surprise that another franchisee could have such a different experience than I did. Upon further review and a little investigation, I suspect something is amiss:

1 - Pro Golf has never had a store in Richmond, VA.

2 - They have a brand presence in all parts of the U.S except a few plains states.

3 - The Titleist brand accounts for 31.1% of golf balls sold (not 65%).

4 - I could find nothing to suggest the 2004 figures referenced are actual figures. I suspect they are fictitious because I definitely wouldn't be hearing about it for the first time here.

5 - Jeff Griffith has a strong reputation of integrity from every Pro Golf franchisee that ever mentioned him (I never had the occasion to deal with him personally).

6 - Pro Golf had one employee assigned to me whose only job was advertising.

7 - The only owners I ever knew that had trouble with suppliers were the ones that didn't pay their bills on time. Pro Golf had extremely competitive programs in place the entire time I was a franchisee.

My experience for over a decade was extremely positive and nothing like what is mentioned in this post. While I didn't care much for Ajay Sports (a company that owned Pro Golf for a few years), I never really had to deal with them much.

I can say without hesitation that because of Pro Golf I made a lot of money in the golf business and I did receive a sizable premium for my business when I sold it due to the affiliation.
