No Choice To With Another Only Electric Service In Area.
My Partner Of 10 years passed away in Jan. due to battling Colon Cancer so you can only know what frame of mind I have been in... Six years ago when we moved into the apt. that I am still living in we setup service with the only electric in our area Progress Energy and at the time we ask if the account could be set up as a joint and we were told no only one of our names so we decide to put some in one name and some in other it helps keep your credit build up. Also we always shared all the bills and payments so when we setup the account they told us there would be a 120.00 dep needed because service had not been at location in many years historical redo. So we paid and about a couple years ago we got a letter from progress energy telling us that they were raising all dep in area it was set to low so it was raised to 460.00 at the time my partner had beginning illness so I handle everything set it all up setup  on line account paid new dep. and they had no problems. Well this pass Jan when my partner passed away the next month in Feb. I received a letter in the mail from Progress Energy telling me that they could no longer keep the service in my partners name had to be switched into mine and I would have to pay a new 415.00 dep. and I had 15 days to do so well at the time I was dealing with my loss and trying to pay for all services and take care of my partners business and had family staying with me .

I got a call from Progress Energy telling that I had to change it that day or they would be out to disconnect the service now they already knew what was going on I had already been on the phone begging them to let me pay the dep. in payments or refund my other and apply it to the new account even prove to them that I was the one that had paid the dep. and all the bills they told me no and they would not be refunded my other dep because my partner had passed. Even with the proof of me paying my money they had now they would not so I had no choice either pay the new dep of 415.00 that day and change the service name or our family would be setting at our apartment with no service...Very unfair and I found out from my elder neighbor when her husband passed she didn't have to change anything they keep it in his name so it was all discrimination because we were not a couple same as a man and woman in love and a life together but we were two male a gay couple which they could rip us off a total of 876.00 they now have in dep from me and will not refund the other I just wanted the dep trans not returned they would have still had the money no they wouldn't and they we were two males so nothing I could do and they told me so....How they even found out that he had passed was something to me and to make me pay out and change it so quick at less let the family leave and the services all be finished...I explained everything to them and their reply was pay today or service off tomorrow....I will never get over them forcing that at that time and ripping me off with proof that all the  money paid to them was me and mine paying it....Same thing happen to another gay couple down the st. but they just went in and cut his service then told him what they were doing when he called in to report a power outage. Gay or not we two build lives and have a family together join on nearly all accounts this was the only company I had any problems out of during his passing.  They never said anything the whole time they were getting checks with my name on it to pay the first dep and pay the bills. It made me so mad I want to report it to the news I guess I could have handle it better if it wasn't right in the middle of everything and all family here and services going .....and to be told with no notice today or off....I ask them if I should not pay for chapel services and pay them first they didn't say anything but of course I wouldn't I would have been at home in the dark first and lucky my family was here to help me out. No matter there is a way to treat anyone male or female and should all be treated the same.
