In 2004, I purchased a new 2005 Toyota Corolla from a very reliable dealership here in town.  I didn't have existing auto insurance at the time.  In order to drive the car off of the lot, I had to have full insurance coverage on the vehicle.  I was able to secure full coverage through Progressive Insurance on their website, progressive.com.

I'm in my 11th year of insurance coverage with this company.  I've never had an accident, and at only one time did I ever have an issue where I had to pay my monthly premium after the due date, because of some minor financial trouble.  I should have switched insurance companies then, because a very rude representative from Progressive said he could not extend the cancellation date.  Having worked in the customer service field for many years myself, I knew this was not true.  I could tell just by the tone of his voice he was irritated that I had called, and he simply did not want to take the steps necessary to extend the cancellation date.  For this incident, I had to beg, borrow, and just about steal to make the monthly premium payment.  Thankfully, I was able to do so.  I wish I would have switched........................

I retired in August of 2014.  Up until that time, I was using a debit card every month that my salary was loaded onto to pay most of my monthly bills.  When I retired, that was no longer a good option, so I started paying the bills by transferring money from my savings account.  At the beginning of this, I had no trouble.

Now, I understand that I'm responsible for knowing and understanding the rules concerning different account types, but I was either not told or had forgotten that one of the rules for savings accounts (not sure if it's just my credit union or if it is a nationwide rule) is that there is a limit of six transfer requests per month.  December has been a crazy month with and all of that.

I started receiving notices that payment transfer requests were being returned by the bank.  At first, I thought it was a matter of timing between the payments posting, and overdue notices being mailed out.  Then, I started getting hit with a $25.00 fee notice here, a $13.00 returned payment fee notice there, then some other odd  amounts.  I finally telephoned my credit union, and got it all straightened out with a new checking account, which does not have those transfer limitations per month that a savings account does.  So far so good.

Now you may wonder what the hell this has to do with Progressive.  Well, I attempted to call them to explain what I had discovered and that I had a checking account set up so there would not be anymore "returned payments".  Well, guess what?  When you call Progressive, you now cannot reach a live person.  None of the menu options pertained to what I needed, and the only thing the impersonal computer voice could tell me was when my last payment was received.  That is it!!!!!!!!!

Since then, I have received more notices from this bu****** company restricting me to a debit or credit card payment option. In their latest nasty little note, they have assessed yet another returned payment fee which is absolutely  ludicrist.  I have paid no less than five of these damned fees and replaced four payments before this all got straightened out.  I guess maybe I expect too much sometimes, but wouldn't one think that after 10 bloomin' years of loyal, on time insurance premium payments with no claims filed, that this company would be willing to work with you instead of just threatening to cancel your policy because I've had a little "hiccup" this month?  This is very, extremely rude and unprofessional.  That woman featured in their commercials and in their ads is a complete phony.

If you want to avoid being treated like a second class citizen when you have even a little pinch of trouble with your insurance policy even after you have been with a company for a decade or more, DO NOT INSURE ANY OF YOUR VEHICLES OR ANYTHING ELSE THROUGH PROGRESSIVE.  THEY ARE A COMPLETE WASTELAND.  I am so sorry I ever signed up for their garbage.
