Protection One advertises and charges for monitoring the home alarm system. However, they do not not alert if the system goes offline telephone wire disabled by burglar.  After my house was robbed, I called and asked why their system did not alert me. They responded that it was the duty of the customer to check that the system is functional. They recommend that the customer do this once a week.  I.e., every week the customer must call in to test the system with Protection One.

Of course, even a fully functional system will not trip any alarms if the phone wire is cut. Protection One advertises that they monitor the alarm system. This is false advertising.

Cell guard back up

AUTHOR: AliCent - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, March 15, 2012

@Ken

What you are referring to is called a cellguard bypass, and is NOT the control panel- Sometimes the cellguard is ADDED to a control panel if its a self contained unit, in which case, your system is the easiest of all security systems to defeat. Ademco is a manufacturer of security equipment, and has numerous control panels, including wireless units with the built in cell guard... Any regular control panel, regardless of the manufacturer operates through a PHONE LINE UNLESS you have the cellguard...  Oh, and it really sounds like you work for vivint!

I have a comment about "ALL alarm systems use the home phone line to send their alarms....

AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 14, 2012

No, they don't...just many of them.  The Ademco, definitely uses the home phone line.  That's the one I had previously.

Mine, from Vivint sends alarms on cellular sites, and can also be controlled by me with any internet able computer and using smart cell phones.

It logs all activity, whether by smart phone, computer, key fob, control panel or Vivint itself.
I can access this information and check events.

It even logs low alarm sender batteries and tamper warnings when you open the sender to replace the battery......ALL by cellular service.

Protection one is horrible

AUTHOR: AliCent - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 14, 2012

All alarm systems work through your home phone line, so if your home phone line goes down or is disabled then no alarm company in the world can see the signal. Ademco Vista 15p control panels have built in phone line protection, so if someone cuts your home phone line (again) your sirens will instantly go off, plus they have self diagnostic systems built in, so it always scans your equipment for any kinds of issues/malfunctions, etc- if it detects anything it will let you (and your monitoring station, if protection one is equipped for it) know if somethings not working to avoid finding out in an emergency that you have faulty equipment. Also, you can look into a cell guard bypass, which is a separate phone line that only works for your alarm system, but its tamper proof... It will increase your monthly monitoring price, but is great because nobody can bypass it, and it works for people who have no home phone. BTW< I work for ADT, not protection one... Hope this helps you! Sorry your home was broken into, but if it makes you feel bad, Palm BEach county and broward county have a really high crime rate so its happening to all of us!

I would bet your contract says..

AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, January 29, 2012

they have no responsibility if your phone system is disabled or disconnected.

The alarm equipment you have, apparently has no way of sending an alarm if this happens.

My new system uses a panel that sends alarms via cell phone service...somewhat more secure.
I don't know about the "false advertising", but look at your contract for the disclaimers.

No, I DON'T work for them.
