Providian raised my fixed interest credit card account from 8.99% to 21.99% without warning. I inquired, and was told that because of "credit risk factors" it was raised. My credit report has NO negative points...I score in the upper third of the US for good credit.
I was told that a statement had warned me of the increase...all that the statement had said was that there was important enclosure with my statement---there was none--nothing but ads!!!
Days after this inquiry, I was notified by e-mail from them that the rate is NOW 28.99%!!! I had just reduced my credit card "stable" to just two cards, reluctantly cancelling another card with a similar fixed rate of 8.99%. How I wish I'd have given THESE guys the boot. I will, too...I'm getting a different card and tranferring my balance...I'm dropping these guys like a hot rock!!

After talking with a Corporate rep., I was given the final amount for complete payoff of my account. HOWEVER, Providian--less than 1 WEEK later, added "fees" of over $90 (to which they'ed hoped to apply some more 29.99% interest to). I checked my account online on a hunch and caught them. They would not allow me to pay more than the $90+ fees online, and did say that if I paid the owed amount online that there would be MORE interest fees that would accrue in the meantime. My bank is sending them a paper check by overnight registered mail for much MORE than the stated amount. Now it will be interesting to see if I get my overpayment refunded. A class-action should be taken on these people...they just can't be any more criminal!!!!
