We rented a 10X10 space from Public Storage for the $1.00/month special offered. We moved to Phoenix from Aberdeen Maryland and put everything we owned into this space until we could get a place to live in town. We became late with our rent; I went into the office to give them my new address and was told that we were scheduled for auction in a couple of weeks.

I called the district manager in Tempe, AZ to make payment arrangements, as I was told to do by the office desk representative. The district manager told me I could pay $150 up front that day and would have 30 days to pay off the balance. He said this would take us off the auction list. I paid the $150 that day and confirmed with the office desk rep. that the arrangement was on the computer and we were off the auction list.

Three weeks later, I went into the office to pay the balance due and was told that our belongings had been put up for auction anyway!! Apparently, Mark had not taken our names off the auction list as he said he would and our belongings -- everything we owned -- were auctioned off 1 week after I had made the initial payment!! They said there was nothing they could do about it, that it was an apparent oversight on the part of management.

Word to the wise: don't use Public Storage -- they are not trustworthy and adhere to fraudulent business practices!! They NEVER sent us a certified letter in the mail warning us that we were about to go to auction -- if I had not gone into the office when I did, I would never had known. They NEVER even called me at my home phone number to notify me also. This is fraudulent business practices, from what I've heard from other storage companies I contacted.
