I received a call AT MY JOB (like most others here) from someone conducting a short survey. Questions asked were how old I was, where I lived, how long I've worked there. Only like five questions.

For answering these questions, I was to recieve a great deal on FIVE magazine subscriptions. She went on to explain the "deal" and how I'd be saving a LOT of money on all these magazines. It would cost $2.31 a week for FIVE magazines. She explained the cost, and how I'd pay, still explaining how it was a great huge savings.

I have gotten these calls before for other things, and a couple times they DID work out. (I won dinner at a comedy club once for a short survey...my first date w/ my now husband!! LOL) So, before hanging up, I got a phone number and extention where I could reach this woman. I would be receiving my info in the mail.

Two days ago, I got my info. Now the fun begins! I wanted to see just what BIG DEAL I was getting from this place. So, here's the deal:

$20 a month for 24 months equals $480

$480 divided by five subscription equals $96

$96 divided by four years equals $24.

Their GREAT WONDERFUL BIG SAVINGS is charging $24 dollars for a subscription that you can get from the magazine's website for 1/3 of that price!!!!! (from $8-$15 online)

I was offered the five magazines as follows: US News and World Report, Jane, House and Garden, Woman's Day, Premiere.

Thru this company, I would pay $480.00 for these. I went to EACH of the magazine's websites and clicked the "subscribe" link. This is what you pay for each of these mags thru their websites;

Jane--$8/year
House and Garden--$15
Woman's Day--$10
Premiere--$12
US News and World Report--$15 for 52 ISSUES

And here's the kicker..... US News and World Report is a 52-ISSUE subscription, but Publisher's Business Services only gives you TWELVE ISSUES. So, you're paying for a 52-ISSUE subscription and only getting 1/4 of the magazines!!!!

THAT IS SIX TIMES THE PRICE OF THE SUBSCRIPTION!

So, anyone who reads this....DO THE MATH before you agree to this. Don't give ANY BANK/BILLING INFO over the phone, get the paperwork in the mail, then do the math. You will see that YOU TOO, CAN BE RIPPED OFF !!!!!!!

I am sending in a letter w/ my findings to them, and asking to cancel my agreement. I'm sending it certified and return receipt. I will report back if/when they cancel my agreement.

Publishers Business' Services

I just wanted to update on this. It's been 2 years since my magazine subscriptions started, and over the years, a few of them have changed, because PBS stated they weren't carrying these magazines anymore. I did get different magazines for a while, but I realized now, that I haven't gotten any magazines for a few months now, so I'm wondering if I only was going to receive TWO years instead of FOUR years like originally stated! I did call PBS last year to try to change a magazine, but they said my account had been cancelled. >>wink, wink

To Michael in Nanuet, NY

AUTHOR: Kristina - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 21, 2007

I have a copy of the letter on my hard drive, but I don't know how people can contact each other thru here. We can't put email addresses or AIM screen names. :0(

I basically wrote them a letter, stated everthing they did (called me at work on this date, did the survey, sent me info etc...) I outlined their "great promotions", and then typed out the actual math. (Which is in my first post). When they got the letter, they wrote me back and said they were cancelling my account and I may still recieve some of the mags. I actually get ALL of the magazines. :0)

Do you have ANY PROOF from them?? If you are getting billed, you must have given your address, so they must have sent you an intro letter. Read over everything in all the letters, and use that for your "case".

I will email this site to see how we can contact each other. I don't know if it can be done tho.

Good luck and please update w/ whatever happens!

I was contacted in December 2006 by Publishers Business Services and agreed to receive my "FREE magazines" as a thank you for participating in a market survey. Three months later i am being billed and threatened to be taken to collections.

Kristina, if you could provide me with the details of the letter on how you actually got them to cancel your account i would appreciate it!

Still Receiving Magazines

AUTHOR: Kristina - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 22, 2006

Just wanted to update that as of Dec 22, 2006, I am still getting all the magazines that were originally ordered. The reason I believe is because THEY paid the loweset price or a special business promotional price, so they lost so little money on the deal that it did't matter to them. I'm sure they have money to throw around, if they didn't, they still wouldn't be in business!

Like I stated before, if anyone needs or wants a copy of the letter I sent them, please contact me thru this site. I cannot put my email address it will get blocked out.

THEY CANCELLED MY ACCOUNT!

AUTHOR: Kristina - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 21, 2006

I sent them a letter outlining what they charge for their magazines and how much they cost thru the websites. I explained the whole deal in detail. I explained I thought they use unfair business practices, and always call at work, using that to pressure people into signing up.

I had them call me twice more, and they insisted they couldn't cancel my account that they had already paid for the magazines. I told them I sent a letter explainging why I was cancelling and it was everythying I just told them. Both times I had to hang up on them because they don't give up.

I got a letter back from them a couple weeks later stating they had cancelled my account, and I may still receive some, if not ALL the magazines. I think I'm still getting Jane and Woman's Day. I haven't gotten Premiere, House and Garden, or Domino anymore. (I should have changed them in the beginning, so at least they'd be ones I'd like! LOL)

So, just write them a letter to cancel then if you want to order mags, just go to the magazines website and pay as little as $8 for 12 issues!!! :) (as opposed to $24 thru PBS!)

If anyone wants a copy of the letter, please feel free to email me at (((ROR REDACTED E-MAIL ADDRESS FOR SECURITY PURPOSES))) or IM me at that name. I'd be happy to share!

Hi Kristina,
If they don't honor your cancellation request, let me know, (I'm not sure how this site handles contact exchange). I live in Las Vegas.....if they don't honor your request to cancel your agreement, compile your information and I will happily take it over to the FBI office, turn them in for their fraudulent and misrepresentation practices.....

I keep reading stories about unacceptable business practices that are based here in Las Vegas, NV and it's surrounding areas, and it makes me angry. I would be happy to have a hand in wiping them out, at least from this fun city I live in!
