PurePlay has been around since November 2005 according to the SanFrancisco chronical. The Owner who is not mentioned anywhere else on the Internet is, Jason Kellerman (Ceo and co-founder). The site promotes fair poker play and is the closest thing to real poker. When in fact it utilizes a well know poker software provider and algorythm that promotes bad play and bad habits. In fact it intentially will have anywhere from 2 - 7 very good preflop hands which will have numerous players betting high to promote gameplay. This in itiself is not poker and nothing like real poker play. Anytime a person has no chance of winning when there is a very reasonalbe chance they could win, is fraud, not fair. Pureplay does not accept any accountability when approached with comment in this regard and will simply send a standardized response which in most cases blames the client for any and all issues without giving any proof. When a client does follow up on their suggestions and has further issues with the same problem it is then passed to a psedo manager who will get back to you. This doesn't happen, I have tried now on over five serious issues that they have not responded to as of this date. I have tried to quit now on two occassions. The first I got a quick response stating they would extend my membership to Feb something as I was still on the two free weeks promotion. The second was that I had to call their phone number between the hours of 1:00pm EST and 7:00pm EST. The number does not work from my home and therefore I sent in an email cancelling my account only to have them ignore it and respond with this -

Hello,

The initial charge was merely a "hold" that is placed on your card. It is not
a real charge. The next (and first real) charge comes two weeks after your
2-week free trial ended, on December 27th.

To cancel your Players Club subscription please call 1-800-804-4817. This
number can be reached between the hours of 1pm to 7pm ET Monday to Friday.

My card was charged on the 17th of December, well before the 2 weeks promotion date, they extended my account to Feb. ?(They refused to send me the end date of my subscription). This was there way of trying to keep me as a client. I cannot cancel my account as their number does not work, and they refuse to reply to my email for cancellation. To make matters worse the site owners have intentionally used a proxy service so that the ownership and contact information cannot be found. Contact whois at Internic and all you get is this -

Domains by proxy will not release the names of the registrants as is required in accordance with ICANN policy must be made available to the public. This is outragous that a company can be registered without a name or company registration, on internic. It is outragous and scetchy that any company would go to such great lengths to hide their identy. It is outragous that the Customer service is outsourced and has no control of the scripts they respond with. The whole company smells of hugh cash fraud and should be investigated by the FBI. Poker is poker, but this is far from it.

The reply sounds nice, but it certainly isn't the way they treat their customers.  I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau, my local Attorney General, and the FBI.  They charged my credit card 10 times without authorization by me, then claimed it was my fault for not cancelling the purchase.  How can I cancel if I don't know they are doing it?  I don't trust them any further than I can throw all of them at one time.  Look-up Jason Kellerman, CEO on this site and decide if you want to trust them with your card information.   I have sent a cancellation notice in writing and they have yet to respond.

Rebuttal from PurePlay.com

AUTHOR: Branden - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 04, 2008

The following is a rebuttal to the posting by Art regarding his experience at PurePlay.com.

We are truly sorry to hear of any negative experience any member has had while at PurePlay, and we strive to offer nothing less than outstanding customer support and a high quality gaming experience. We apologize for any miscommunication that may have happened on our part. Our intentions in all of our communications were solely intended to assist Art, and we sincerely regret that he's had a less than pleasant experience.

We can assure everyone that PurePlay is a legitimate company operating out of San Francisco, CA. By no means do we attempt to hide or disguise the identity of the company or our team members. Jason Kellerman is indeed our CEO and Cofounder, and has happily signed his name to many member communications.

As far as fair play, our Random Number Generator, or RNG, has been the core randomizer for a number of other poker rooms on the web. This core RNG has been tested and certified as a true randomizer by Technical Systems Testing, an independent testing firm, and is tested on an ongoing basis to ensure its continued fairness.

Since our poker site is membership based it's in our company's best interest to make sure that our members enjoy their entire experience and are protected from any manipulation of game play. Unlike rake gambling sites, we depend on a continued trusting relationship with our members. It just wouldn't help us to offer anything other than a fair product and we are truly proud of the service we provide in offering over $125,000 in USD cash prizes, fairly, every month.

We have been in communication with Art, we've unsubscribed Art's account, and his paid period will end on February 9, 2008. We've passed on our best wishes to Art in his future online poker, and we've sincerely apologized that his experience with us was less than pleasant. We'll take his feedback into account, too, as we honestly want to provide the best poker, and the best customer service, online.

Members can reach us at 1-800-804-4817, Monday through Friday from 10 AM PT to 4 PM PT for live customer support. We can also be reached 24 hours a day via email at support@pureplay.com.

Again, we are truly sorry to hear that Art has had a negative experience at PurePlay and we take his dissatisfaction very seriously. We have contacted him again via email to invite him to follow up on his original post here to let everyone know whether all of his concerns have now been addressed.
