I was looking for Macbooks for sale on Craigslist and emailing people who I thought were just regular people trying to sell laptops they weren't using anymore. The very first response I received was seemingly from a regular person who said she had already sold the laptop but that she got it at Quibids.com and that I should try to find one there, too because it's such a great deal.
I stupidly signed up only to find they had a pathetic selection and the deals weren't even really deals. There was hardly a difference in the "deals" on this site and the retail price for a Macbook from an Apple store. It seemed strange. Then I received a similar response from a different person and realized it was part of a scam.
I Googled "quibids scam" and read that they were charging people $60 without the consumer's knowledge or permission! When you sign up for the site you are required to enter your credit card information (which I did like a dolt! ). I saw nothing and clicked nothing that asked me permission to charge $60 to my credit card! It's misleading at best and an outright lie!
When I confronted someone about this via a customer service chat the representative for Quibids promptly got defensive and said my money would be refunded soon - even though I made no mention about being illegally charged (I wasn't even sure yet that I had been charged!)! I then demanded to know how it is possible for them to charge people without their permission and called them out for being scam artists and demanded confirmation that they no longer have access to my credit card info and that my profile was in fact permanently deleted after which the representative promptly and abruptly ended the chat session (essentially hanging up on me).
Bottom line: don't trust those e-bidding sites and if someone tries to send you to another store when you're trying to buy goods on Craigslist, don't fall for it.
Scammers are the scum.of the earth. I can think of fewer people lower than those who would steal your hard earned money through lies and trickery. Good luck to all innocent consumers in navigating the corrupt waters of the internet.
