If you decide to purchase a Qwest "Bundle" Plan, get the details up front in writing. I purchased a bundle plan at a mall kiosk from a salesperson whose business card said he was with Qwest. When my bill was $50 more than what he quoted me, I called Qwest and they said he was a 3rd party vendor and they had no connection to him. They also said that DirecTV had no connection to them either and that there was basically nothing they could do. So, not only did "bundling" not save me any money, I am locked into a deal that costs me $600 more per year than what I thought I was agreeing to. Qwest outsources its sales force, they sell under their name, and the company claims they have no recourse! What a scam.

For those of you in Minnesota, specifically, the kiosk at Southdale is where I was ripped off. Bill Feahr was the guy who lied to me and sold me a deal that he or the company will not stand by.

Actually as a billing representative your prices seem correct for the first 3 months billing provided several things.

1) if you got your service from a mall Kiosk, did they set you up for a modem rental or purchase, Prices are as follows Standard Modem 5.00 per month rental or 59.99 to purchase which may be split over 3 months. Advanced Networking Modem 8.00/month rental or 99.99 purchase which may be split over 3 months. Note those prices are pre tax if you figure tax on the advanced modem it comes to approx 36.00 per month. That happens to be the rough estimate of the difference on your statements.

2) Qwest does not outsource its Sales departments, Trust me.

3) I hear complaints about misquoting because of taxes its scary that there are almost 20.00 worth of taxes on 100.00 worth of service. My general rule of thumb when looking at my qwest bill (yes i am a qwest customer, with 0 complaints)is if its within 10.00 of what it was last month and thats not more than 20.00 what i was quoted after taxes i am doing good.

The reasoning behind this is simple your taxes change every month, if i dial *69 or one of my roomates does end of story it can vary.

Tips and Tricks to help you when you come to the phones and call any company.

Compare two bills, your last months and this months and see where the price difference is. As a Qwest consultant thats the first thing i do with a customers account when they say their bill is wrong.

Next thing check prices, if you were quoted 26.99 for internet check and see if your internet according to page one is 26.99, if you were quoted 15.00 for Long Distance(LD) check to make sure your LD bill is about 17-18.00 per month (15.00 after tax) If those are right, and you notice your home section is above 50.00 look there. If you see a section called Service Additions and Changes those typically mean one time fees, or payment options on modems. Last place i ever want to look is DirecTv charges.

The reason is simple, if there was a 10.00 promotional rebate the customer was supposed to submit and didn't i can see, if there are PPV(Pay Per View) charges they can vary from 1.99 to 14.99 per movie. Also it is a lot of fun explaining DirecTv bills. One reason is simple there are leased reciever fees for the additional recievers and depending on your package you may have Choice Xtra + ala carte DVR service etc...

Now the reason i suggest this, its much easier on my end of the conversation if the customer has done some homework on their bill and can say, "This is where its wrong" versus me spending 10 mins loading bills in various programs to cross reference between them while my customer listens to idle banter. You don't want to hear about my dog skip right? Also the more informed the customer is the happier we are to help, if you call us up and scream, "Why is my bill 200.00" it puts us in a bad mood.

I hope this helps, Also sir if your lucky enough to call in and get me on the phone i would be more than happy to help.

That's some good info, but I need to know more...

You gave some good info, but there's still some other stuff to know to see if your quote was right and what's throwing your bill out of whack with that quote. Here's what I know of Qwest prices:

29.99 for Choice Home PCKG w/3 features
15.00 for unlimited ld (that's including 5.00 bundle disc)
21.99 for 1.5 INET (that's including 10.00 bundle disc and the price for life promo)
58.99 for DTV Total Choice pls and HBO (that's including 5.00 bundle disc)

That gets us up to 125.97. You have to figure about 20.00 in tax for all of it, so that's falling short of your 180.00 bill by about 35.00. Now, where is that difference coming from? It could be several things:

DTV
What does the DTV price plan on your billing show as specifically? Are there any additional receivers? Do you have the protection plan for equipment? Is there a charge for DVR service? Are there Pay per view movies on there?

Internet
Which modem did you get, standard or the wireless? Did you purchase or rent your modem? If purchased, did they split the cost over the 1st 3 billings? If rental, how much is it? Did you have a technician install that was split over the 1st three billings? The modem charges will actually appear under the home service section. As far as the service, did you get the Platinum (3mb-7mb) internet? That would be 10.00 more.

LD
Are you paying for an international plan or did you make any international calls? Did you make directory assistence calls?

Home Section
Any directory calls here or ppu charges? Did you have jack wiring done that was split into installment billing?

The reason I'm trying to get this info is because I want to help you understand these bills. I've helped my family with them and they're usually right. The more info you give me the more I can help you figure out what the heck happened! LOL

I had all the details

The individual who sold me my Qwest bundle said he would help me get the price he quoted - he's not even denying my claim. But it is obvious now that he is simply paying me lip service and that is how the Qwest deals work - you get quoted a good price, then the bill is much more.

When you call Qwest or DirecTV, they claim they have no relationship to the person in the mall who sold you the deal, even though his business card says he works for Qwest. The tell me he is a third party vendor, and they cannot back up anything he says. And, in response to your statement regarding the first bill, I just paid my third bill. I was quoted $132 per month for high speed internet, long distance phone service, and the middle DirecTV package - Total Choice Plus. This price also included HBO. I was specific and intentional about what services I was purchasing. My 2nd and 3rd monthly bills were for $180! I expected a bit more for fees and tax, but almost $50?

Just what were you quoted?

AUTHOR: Donald - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, May 28, 2007

Just what exactly were you quoted? There are many qwest bundles.......what you may have been quoted and comes with that specific features may be actually different from what you have. If you change levels of service, that will alter the price. Such as the fact that when you activate you DirecTV you may have selected a different level of programming or equipment which could alter your bill. Also, Qwest prorates charges, so your first bill may not have been indicative of what subsequent bills are going to be.
