My son's friend Kenny is getting a soldier of the year award, My son was driving Kenny and his mother to the awards when they pulled off the interstate for gas, in Fredericksburg V.A. At the traffic light the clutch went out on my sons car. They had to call a tow truck. They called R&D towing. When the truck driver arrived he hitched my son's car up, my son asked him if he could just tow it across the street to a parking lot in order for my son to have a mechanic friend to come and pick it up, since we live aprox. 100 miles away. The tow truck driver said yes but he wanted $185.00 to tow it across the street, my son told him that was outragous and the truck driver told him that if he didn't pay he would tow it to the county impound lot and it would cost him a whole lot more. My son called me and I asked him to put the truck driver on the phone, and he confirmed with me that these were his fee's and he said he had an arrangement with the county, and if I gave him any lip that he would just tow my son's car to the impound lot and that he would never get it back. I told him that the fee's were wrong and that I didn't believe him. I told him no" county goverment would ever get away with imposing fee's like that" and that I would find out if that was the case and if he was lying I would do every thing I could to get his licsense removed. He hung up the phone and my son called me ack a few minutes later telling me that the man lowered the fee's to $100.00. My son agreed to this fee. And paid him cash.If this was on the up & up then the man wuld not have been allowed to lower his fee's. Because he would have the county behind him. I called my son back and told him that I thought $100.00 was too much but the deal had already be struck and the driver was already towing his car across the street. I am worried that his car won't even be there when they come back to get it. I wonder how many other travelers have had this problem? Since this is off the I-95 interstate many seniors travel to fla.
