I purchased a Bluetooth headset which came with a rebate offer. I submitted the offer paperwork. I cut the UPC code out and stapled it to the receipt.

I received a postcard in the mail saying they did not receive a valid UPC. I brought the package back to the store where I purchased it. They said what I cut out was the only UPC on the package.

Since I could not get the rebate, I wanted to return the headset. The store manager told me he would reimburse me what I paid less the rebate since he did not know if I still had the UPC and could still get the rebate.

Not only did I pay $25 dollars more than I expected since I didn't get the rebate, but if I return the item, I lose $25. In addition to this, because it has been over 30 days since I purchased the headset, the manager told me I would only get store credit and not a refund.

I believe this is fraud. Is there anything I can do? I would like to return the item and get my money back, if possible. If not, is there an agency that I can report Radio Shack for fraudulant practices?

POSTED: Thursday, July 23, 2009

Charles, the truth is, there's nothing in Kevin's post that points to insulting. Abrasive, perhaps, brusque, certainly, refreshing, most definately. Too many people don't take the time to read terms and conditions, or store policies, or whatever other forms of documentation regarding what their options as a customer of whatever establishment they frequent are. Then they whine about it. Then someone comes up, lovingly places an arm around their shoulders and says, "There, there. It's not your fault. It's the big, bad business' fault." The truth? It's very much their fault. The irony? When someone foster's, approves, or otherwise OK's ignorant behavior and practices, they only breed future failure. Marie is entitled to the money that's owed her. But, Marie needs to make sure she's getting it from the people who owe it to her. Otherwise, she's as much a thief as the former. Lastly, ignorance is no excuse to those who are willing to learn. Fin.

AUTHOR: Charles - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, April 05, 2008

I am not going to argue with you or kevin anymore. Atlanta guy is not for the consumer's he is on the side for the bad businesses who abuse consumer's like radio shack.

Someone told me this on my other complaint, don't post complaint's on this site you open yourself to this. Well this is just there way of saying they will attack any consumer who file's a complaint on this site agaisnt any bad business.

They try to scare us into not posting complaint's , they say you open yourself up to public ridcule, name calling, harassment.

Let me post this for the insulters.

Ripoff Report is also not accepting comments like those found on many sites that have "threads" with meaningless comments, ..in most cases using foul and insulting language against others, similar to those assaults on victims who have come to the Ripoff Report for justice.

But still people like atlanta guy are allowed to assault people on there complaint's insult people.

People tell me I have no valid complaint who are they to say that, they are not me they do not know me. I am tired of being the victim of these bad businesses.

Radio Shack

AUTHOR: Atlanta Guy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 26, 2008

Actually, Charles, Kevin was very professional in his response. He quoted Radio Shack's refund policy as noted on the receipt. He was in no way discourteous nor abrasive. Just because YOU might have had a bad experience with your local Radio Shack does not mean that all employees behave in an unprofessional manner, does it ?

Here we go again......

AUTHOR: Kevin - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 18, 2008

I just had something similar happen the other day...... first off, our return policy is clearly explained on the back of every single receipt. To be specific, I have copied a couple of lines of text directly from the back of a RadioShack receipt:

"MOST ITEMS PURCHASED AT RADIOSHACK MAY BE RETURNED FOR EXCHANGE, CREDIT, OR REFUND WITHIN 30 DAYS OF PURCHASE. IN ADDITION A DEFECTIVE ITEM MAY BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED WITHIN 90 DAYS OF PURCHASE UNDER RADIOSHACK'S WARRANTY POLICY, OR WITHIN THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY PERIOD, WHICHEVER IS LONGER."

"MERCHANDISE MUST BE RETURNED IN LIKE-NEW CONDITION (EXCEPT FOR DAMAGE CAUSED BY ANY PRODUCT DEFECT) WITH THE ORIGINAL PACKAGING MATERIALS (INCLUDING THE BARCODE/UPC LABEL), ACCESSORIES, INSTRUCTIONS, AND THE ORIGINAL SALES RECEIPT, OTHERWISE YOUR PRODUCT MAY NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR RETURN OR ITS RETURN MAY BE SUBJECT TO A REFURBISHING FEE"

The RS employee did everything according to policy. Because we clearly state these terms on every single receipt, to put it simply: there is nothing you can do other than what the manager offered. If you did not agree to the terms, you should have returned the item before mailing in the rebate. As far as the rebate goes, try resubmitting it using the copies of the UPC & receipt that you made before shipping out the originals. If you didn't make copies, then you're basically SOL.

Marie, Wilson sounds like he may be a spin doctor for radio shack

AUTHOR: Shelly - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 25, 2008

Marie,

Just follow through and demand your ripoff revenge. I am suspicious that Wilson is nothing more than a spin doctor for Radio Shack. He may just be out here to discourage you from seeking rip off revenge......

You were sold a rebate, then you are entitled to it...

You see Marie, Radio Shack doesn't like their name being mentioned on this site. You'll get it all figured out, and I am sure you will get your rebate..

If Julian is reading this post, get Marie her rebate please. Are you a good company to deal with or not?

Radio Shack not at fault and they are not required to give refund after 30-days.

AUTHOR: Wilson - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 24, 2008

Marie,

You did not state the brand of the bluetooth headset (Motorola, Jabra, etc). Rebates are offered as purchase incentives by the manufacturers and not by the retailers, that is, Radio Shack, Best Buy, Circuit City and other retailers are not responsible for processing the rebate forms and paying the rebates. If the rebate processing company made a mistake, you should have made a photocopy of the original UPC code and your Radio Shack receipt for situations such as yours.

Second, I do not know Radio Shack's refund policy, but if their refund policy is good for only 30-days, then you are not entitled to a refund. You even admitted that you tried to get a refund after 30-days. The Radio Shack store manager erred in giving you credit less the $25 rebate because the rebate is paid by the manufacter and not by Radio Shack. Unless Radio Shack is different from other electronic retailers in the way of rebates, rebates are given by the manufacters and not by the retailers.

Third, I would try to avoid buying any expensive piece of electronics such printer or computer based on a rebate. Buy the products based on the non-rebate low price. Your rebate forms and UPC codes can be lost in the US mail.

Julian Day is the CEO of Radio Shack, are you ready for Rip Off Revenge!!!! Time to get your money back Marie. "The Rebate Scam

AUTHOR: Shelly - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 24, 2008

This rebate scam is nothing new, lots of companies do this (they make billions doing it). Here is how it works, they sell products (usually electronic items), offer rebates, and when you send it in they stall you, come up with excuses. They start by saying you missed something on the form or papers, or that your rebate cannot be processed at this time.

Now at this point most consumers give up and say "Oh what the hell, it was only $25.00. I had one company tell me 3 times in a row that my rebate can not be processed at this time. I raised hell! Remember though 2,000 people in one week that say oh well, do the math, it ads up, that is just a number drawn out of the air. It isn't just Radio Shack, Lots of companies do this. They try to throw the blame on the rebate processing center.

Everyone reading this on the rebate scam pay close attention, make copies of all paperwork you send in for the rebate. When they notify you by mail or email telling you that your rebate can not be processed at this time, contact them right back, tell them that they have 5 days to get you your refund check. If they don't you will file small claims on them and ask for all your fee's in the claim. Also tell them you will be contacting the FTC and the Attorney Generals office for your state.

I make it a point when I am getting the rebate runaround to contact the store corporate office and the company that manufactures the product. The Manufacturer tries to usually point blame at the retail store. Don't let them do it, tell them that they all do business together and it is their problem.

I did it and the company all of a sudden decided to finally pay me my rebate. All that work.

For your situation I would also contact the Radio Shack Corporate, I believe they are in Texas. Write them a letter telling them what happened to you, tell them you are prepared to take this to court and file complaints if you don't get your rebate.

You did the first step, you came on here and said something to everyone.

Good luck with it, please write us back and let us know how it goes. Do not let Radio Shack play games, they are a multi million dollar company and they should be treating customers better than that.

Here is some corporate contact info for radio shack:

Julian Day was named chairman and CEO on July 6, 2006. Day had previously served successfully in senior leadership positions at several large publicly traded retailing companies in the U.S. and played a key role in revitalizing such companies as Safeway, Sears and Kmart.
