I received a letter and a check in the mail. The letter state I was a lucky winner of unclaimed prize money. A check for $3,188.20 was included. It stated it was to assist me in financing my international clearance fee. I have never seen anything like this before and the check looked real.

I called the bank on the check which was Comerica Bank. They verified the account was a legitimate account. They could not verify the check as I had to take it in person to a bank nearest me. The closest bank is Beverly Hills. This is about 3 hours away from me. I decided to wait until morning to call Florida for verification.

The next morning I called the number on the letter and a person with a thick accent verified my letter and instructed me to deposit my check in my bank account in the next 24 hours and call them back so I can send them the fee of $2000. He stated to keep it confidential until I get my total prize money of $55,000. I let him know I would call him back.

I called the DA in Florida (or their equivalent) the lady explained the scheme the check was a part of. She said it was a forgery and the number on the check is from Canada. She directed me to a number so I could report the crime. I called the number and waited forever. I hung up and went directly to the website and filed a online report. I searched online for any scams like the one I was almost taken for. I could not find a one like mine. I am reporting this to help out anyone who receives this letter.

I did not deposit the check, though I can tell you it was tempting as I need the money. I wanted to believe it was real. I hope I catch anyone else in time. This makes me so angry. I have pics of the letter and check. Good Luck
