I purchased a Rand McNally TND-510 in late 2011. I did the initial updates as you normally do with any GPS when you first purchase it, that way it is up to date, and you don't have any problems.

The first update went fine, and then Rand McNally decided that they where going to do updates to their Dock software, and render some functions disabled. I called customer service, and they told me that they where doing updates and that they are releasing updates in batches. So, I sat for about 2 months with functions that I could not even use.

Finally, the updates came, and the dock software was updated (Yay!). I was able to use all the functionality as I should. I then decided that I would call them and see when my map updates where going to become available to me, and their response was.

"We do not have any records of you being eligible for Lifetime Map Updates"

I then told them that I sent in all the forms, gave them the serial number of the unit, and told them when and where I purchased it. Then they where saying that I should get it soon... Well, here it is now, half way through 2012, and I am running into issues with getting in touch with anyone there. I have sent complaints through their website, through my device, and no one is even bothering to respond.

So In closing...

  1. I have a $350 GPS unit that is designed for Truckers that does not have current information.
  2. Customer service refuses to even respond to my inquiries.
  3. They mysteriously can't find my information for the Lifetime Map updates even though I still have all the proof that I purchased it.
  4. I feel that they have falsely advertised something that they are not even willing to support, and I am left with a device that is not up-to-date.
I just flat out want my money back. I can go out and buy a compeditors device for the same price, get better customer service, more functionality, and a device that is not obsoleted after you stuff their pockets with money and leave the consumer with an expensive door stopper.
