This complaint concerns Ray Chevrolet in Fox Lake, Illinois.

On Friday, November 10, I went to Ray Chevrolet under the impression (from tralking to Francisco on the phone) that the $15,407.00 Kellly Blue Book value would be honored for the sale of my 2016 Nissan Leaf SL model with about 3,000 miles on it. Francisco assured me on the phone that this would be the case, subject to final appraisal at the dealership. I actually expected that the paperwork would be prepared before I got there. I expected to get a quote for selling my Leaf, and another quote for a trade in for a 2017 Chevrolet Bolt.

But it was a terrible experience. Managers who were supposed to manage did no management,. Chris, who was supposed to appraise my car was distracted by a couple of women, sluffing me off to Hector, who knew nothing about the Kelly Blue Book appraisal or the spare tire and jack in the trunk. Hector who was supposed to be working on the paperwork disappeared for ten and fifteen minutes at a time. No explanation as to where he went. No explanation as to when he would be back. After waiting for an hour, two "appraisers" sat down with me and screwed me out of a thousand dollars in value for the car. One said $14,500. The other one said $15,000.00. So this is the brilliant customer service at Ray Chevrolet?

At a time of decreasing population in northeastern Illinois, and declining new car sales, one would think Ray Chevrolet would strive to gain new customers, who would come back year after year to buy cars at Ray Chevrolet. However, it was clear to me that Ray Chevrolet had no interest in selling me new or used cars in the future. All they cared about was the profit they could make today.

Hector, Chris, Francisco, and whoever the "manager" was showed no interest in obtaining my long term business at Ray Chevrolet, so they will get their wish.

Add to this the blatant sexism shown by Chris and one can quickly see the employees at Ray Chevrolet need a serious course in customer courtesy and satisfaction. Something only the owner of the dealership, Ray Scarpelli needs to address if he expects to gain new customers in the future.

Owner's rebuttal proves my point.

The rebuttal from Ray Scarpelli at Ray Chevrolet proves that what I said in my complaint is true. Not one word of apology. Not a tiny bit of remorse or humility for how his employees treated me. Ray Scarpelli lets his testosterone take over and he missed a chance to obtain a loyal customer in the future.

Neither of the "appraisers" who discussed the price of my car ever showed me a Kelly Blue Book printout, so I doubt any exist. Yet the owner takes the word of his employees over the word of a potential customer for years to come. I had a printout of my estimate, and mailed a copy to the owner. Evidently he ignored it.

I was interested to see the Better Business Bureau site had five complaints about Ray Chevrolet, and only one compliment.  How can a company get five complaints and still obtain an A plus rating from the Better Business Bureau? Obviously BBB ratings have no bearing on actual customer experience at the company involved.

I stand by what I said in my complaint to Ripoff Report. It was a humiliating, degrading and insulting experience to sell a car to Ray Chevrolet. The day will come when Ray Scarpelli will wish he had attracted and retained more loyal customers when he had the opportunity to do so.
