To Whom Ever This May Concern.

I would like to bring your attention to the extremely pathetic treatment I was shelled out at the Best Buy in Markville Mall, Markham, between 7-8PM, 21st of August 2006 by your sales manager Ray Wilson (in particular) and Rajwinder Sharma.

I came very enthusisastically to purchase a 42 inch Sony LCD Projection at the Best Buy at Markville Mall
in Markham. I was given a quote by Rajwinder of $2500 (before taxes) for the TV, plus 4 yr warranty, component and HDMI cables. I asked Rajwinder Sharma if the price can be lowered and understandably and in all fairness told me he would consult the sales manager Ray Wilson to see what best he can do, Ray Wilson then personally came to settle a price $2450, and he left. In a few minutes, I got a phone call from a freind of mine who just started working at Future Shop at Highway 7 and Warden, who advised me to not hastily make a buy yet as to have patience since he may be able to get a better deal.

At that point I truthfully told Rajwinder Sharma that I would like to consult my freind at Future Shop as he may be able to get me a good deal. Was this my mistake ??? As a consumer it is only natural to get the best 'deal', and I would have thought that if Best Buy could not match it,then they should not have employees who would behave so angrily and get abusive. (Arent you the same company anyway ??)

Rajwinder Sharma beckoned Ray Wilson to tell him that I was not going to make the buy now, as I had a friend
at Future Shop with possibly a better deal. Ray Wilson walked up to me with very confrontational body language
while I was still talking to my freind on the cell phone. I politely told him to give me a few minutes while I get
off the phone, but I was already alarmed by his attitude. I hurriedly got off the phone and he now started raising
his voice questioning me and claiming that I had given him "my word" that I would buy it from Best Buy and I was not "ethical". I was disgusted by his loud behaviour and the way he had started raising his voice in anger.
I reminded him that I was a consumer and had a right to buy from where I wished to, and by him raising his voice he would gain nothing. (Please remind me if Best Buy still keeps a policy to return items within a stipulated period of days ? I was not even going that far, or not to mention breaking "ethics"...all I said was I dont wish to make the buy yet as I would like to consult further
before making this decison incase I get a better deal. At this point he told me that he was 2 mins from "throwing me
out of 'his' shop because I was not keeping my word"!!!
I have never felt so traumatically upset purchasing an item in my whole entire life !!!!!

I asked to be talk to the General Manager, and he sneered at me and told me he was also the General Manager of
the whole store, and apparently he claimed was the main authority for me to talk to. At this point he pointed his
finger at the doors asking me to "GET OUT" infront of other shoppers who were looking at us shocked.
I pray that if Best Buy does have a policy to be fair, please view this episode on your cameras at the time and date I have mentioned earlier, which i beleive are recording at all times. This episode took place in the same aisle that the Sony 42 inch TV is being displayed. Let that be some proof to my experience as nothing speaks better than reality itself.

After this verbal abuse I left extremely upset and asked a sales man at the front door to give me the name, and
phone number of the main manager at the store. He told me the main manager was Mike, and his number was
905.754.3025 extn 2021. As soon as I stood outside I called this number and asked for Mike or any responsible
authority at the store.I was informed that Mike was not in today and asked my name, after a silence of 5 mins
Ray Wilson came to the phone and greeted me very rudely saying "are you the same guy I just threw out of my store". I asked him to behave himself as he is not talking to a 10 yr boy, and I would take this matter to whatever authority it takes to get some justice. He then slammed the phone on my face.

Feeling helpless and humiliated, I called the police on non-emergency 911 line and was directed to the non-emergency line, where I was advised to get in touch with the Best Buy consumer complaint department. This is what I am doing and hoping that some justice is done and other people like myself are not meted out with such bad experiences. I work as a respected Specialist on ERP Systems (PeopleSoft,SAP) with Deloitte and Touche in Markham itself and not far away from this particular Best Buy. I am strongly inclined to discourage all my friends from facing such unhappy shopping experiences with a 'power tripped' Ray Wilson in charge at the Best Buy in Markville mall.

I am appauled at this behaviour and feel so hurt today. I cant understand why such a 'manager' who claims to be the highest authority in the Best Buy at Markville Mall, Markham can get away with such behaviour. I am inclined to even go as far as wondering if he is racist and treated me in such manner because I am a non-white ?

This is totally unheard of and I will never ever visit Best Buy again. If Best Buy does have a competetive attitude with Future shop, they should learn to take it in spirit and not behave in such an unprofessional manner.

I pray for some justice and proper investigation, and I will be dismayed if perhaps no action is taken because Ray Wison is a "Manager",Can someone help me or am I writing my very hurtful, and mentally traumatic experience in vain ?

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Purchase Incident

AUTHOR: Ray Wilson - (Canada)

POSTED: Monday, August 03, 2009

Hello,

I came across this report today and, despite the fact that three years have passed, I felt obligated to reply to this individual at his request. Although I was a manager at this location at this time, I have no recollection of this occurance. I haven't worked for the company for some time now, but thought that, in good faith, an olive branch should be extended. If anything even close to what he recounts actually did occur, I must apologize. It is certainly not in my character to act this way, so it does come as a shock to hear these words. I wish you only goodness going forward.

After reading the note, I will offer a few thoughts. I have had hundreds of customers in my years in retail. It is not only common, but expected that customers will ask for a deal. No matter what retailer I would have been working for, I certainly oblige when I can. Based on your note, I can only think of one thing that would have even remotely shaken me; that being the tactics of negotiation. I am a firm believer that negotiation is merely a condition of the purchase. If someone enters into such action, it is an objection that can simply be overcome on the way to making the sale. If someone agrees to a price and the negotiation ends, the purchase is assumed. Think of going in to a dealership to buy a car, beating the price down, and then walking away. Without a doubt, the salesperson would be furious. With no commissions at stake at Best Buy, I can't imagine why it would matter to me or the salesperson; hence my curiosity to your comments. At the time, our salaries were paid by Future Shop, so it wouldn't matter where you were to buy your TV. As for throwing you out of the store, Best Buy investigates all such actions thoroughly, so I wonder if you might not be embellishing somewhat here. To call the store back within minutes of a heated argument wouldn't be the best idea either, and could possibly even be considered a form of taunting.

In reference to being hurt, I can tell by the tone of your message that you were certainly affected by this event. Again; any involvement I had I must apologize for. Having said this, making reference to being racist is what prompted me to reply. I understand that this occurrance must have troubled you, but that's a very bold comment to make of someone simply because you had a bad experience. I think that even I felt bad for you up until this point. You often refer to "praying" for someone to take the incident seriously. No person of faith would make such an allegation over a non-sale gone bad. By calling someone a racist without any such proof or reasoning does in effect what you suggest happened to you; being judged in a nasty, unjust, and unfair manner. As for Best Buy, please feel free to shop there as the employees are kind, friendly, and multicultural.

Finally, I submit my apology once again. I have left Best Buy on excellent terms, and if you feel the need to reach me to discuss (three years removed) :), I would be happy to say it in person through contact with the company.

All the best to you and your family.

Ray Wilson
