This is a warning, DO NOT PREPAY RCI FOR ANY FUTURE HOLIDAYS KEEP THE MONEY IN YOUR OWN ACCOUNT UNTILL YOU ARE READY TO GO. RCI WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY IN PAYMENTS FOR YEARS TO COVER A VACATION OF YOUR CHOICE AND ONCE YOU HAVE PAID THEM ENOUGH MONEY THEY WILL PUT A TIMELINE ON WHEN YOU CAN USE THIS MONEY OR THEY WILL KEEP YOUR MONEY AND GIVE YOU NO SERVICES, EVEN IF YOU ARE CERTAIN YOU GAVE THEM EXTRA MONEY TO HOLD THE MONEY YOU ALREADY GAVE THEM. YOU WILL LOOSE ALL YOUR MONEY AND HAVE NO VACATION.

We are long term members of RCI with 48 points banked up because it's always difficult to use them through RCI. We pay RCI every year and for extension for weeks we don't use, We always end up using a different travel agent for our trips every year as RCI is always more difficult and more expensive even when using our points.

RCI called us up and convinced us to pay them another additional $3000 or so for a cruise / hotel package that was to be  a GREAT DEAL. After we paid fully for our package RCI claimed it was going to expire and we would loose the package. We believe we had paid them when we discussed this so we could still use the package we fully paid for, just more extra money like the other weeks we have trough RCI. We had a shop / office fire that claimed much of our house hold items and office supplies. We had ask a few time for RCI to send us the details of our package, it has never arrived, not once. We have no paper work to show we even purchased a package through RCI, just their word for it.

We were once again wanting to book a vacation and thought that since we have spent thousand of dollars through RCI (well over $4000) plus transferred all of our timeshare weeks to them for the last 5 or more years that we should try to use our assets there (a value of maybe over $12,000). We called RCI and talked to Elaine I believe. We were told that we no longer owned a package for the cruise and hotel with them and she was unwilling to supply us with any information about the package that we paid around $3000 for. RCI claimed we no longer have access to our vacations and they refuse to discuss what our previous purchases were for unless we paid them more additional money. Please note we still have a valid membership with RCI with 48 points when they are telling us this. Elaine would not provide any information to see if our family had the ability to use the vacation unless we paid them more money for the vacation again. We had lost any info we had in a fire, paid RCI in full for our vacation and am no told that RCI is keeping all our money, not supplying our vacation anymore and is unwilling to tell us the details about what we had purchased unless we pay them again! What a rip off! Over 5years of membership fees, extension fees and transferring to RCI all of our weeks to be told this.

Save your hard earned money and buy your vacation elsewhere. RCI has taken thousands of dollars from us with NO compensation, not any. Elaine would not even let me finish a sentence. When I asked to confirm what she was saying she told me to believe what ever I wanted and she was not willing to help me or provide me with any information about our previous purchase unless I paid her more money.

Is this how RCI makes their money? Sell vacation packages that you must pay in full and them expire them even when the clients believe they had them extended and keep all their members money without supplying them a vacation or any compensation. RCI then requires me as a member to pay additional fees just to discuss this issue. We have paid RCI in full for a vacation that they are not even willing to discuss with us about.

We have lost all this money to RCI and continue to wonder as every other year if it will be possible to use the other weeks we have given to RCI for the past 5 or so years. Membership does not have its privileges, Just the opportunity to have RCI cold calling you trying to push vacations on you that are hard to use where you will likely loose all the money you give them and will not receive any customer service unless you are willing to pay them extra to discuss your fully paid for vacations.

I believe there are laws about selling certificates and then expiring them with out compensation to the customers. I do know when you prepay for a service in full that they are not allowed to expired. This law was passed several years ago to protect patrons. RCI (Elaine) claims they are allowed to presell certificates and expire them in a quick fashion while keeping all of their customers money. RCI will not even talk to you about your purchase once they expire it. RCI keeps your money and gets angry with you if you challenge them. RCI refuses to supply us a vacation that we purchased, show us or discuss our past transactions with them or even the details of what it was that you had paid them for. It make you wonder if the vacations they sold you ever existed, after all, RCI won't give you a statement on account, discuss the vacation details, or even let you finish a sentence when you talk to them. We can not find any e-mails from RCI about this purchase and have never received documentation of this purchase. All we know is RCI took a lot of money from us acknowledges that they supposedly sold us a vacation that they can not show documentation for or even discuss with us about. All Elaine (RCI) is willing to say is that they are keeping our money, the trip is no longer is valid and that she is unwilling to discuss it with us unless we pay her more money. My wife and I are extremely certain that we had bent over and allowed them to charge us to extend the time on our vacation for a couple of years. Did RCI somehow oversee this so our trip would expire leaving them with all our money for a trip that was never booked and then refusing to discuss it with us afterwards? What a way to make a dollar.

This is the best RCI can do at this time. Take thousands of dollars from us and then refuse to talk to us about it. Sorry they will talk to us after we pay them more money, the membership you pay them for every year does not include discussion on prepaid unused purchases that they feel should be expired. We did not buy a scheduled trip through RCI. We prepaid RCI for a choice of trips that RCI handles to use sometime in the future and RCI kept our money unwilling to supply us with any trips.

How to use the RCI timeshare exchange system

AUTHOR: LinaP - ()

POSTED: Thursday, January 09, 2014

Despite RCI is one of the biggest timeshare exchange companies in the world, you still have to be very careful before exchanging your week, as there are many things that could go wrong during the process. Take into consideration that you have to book the resort as soon as possible, sometimes even up to two years in advance, which can be a problem for some families. Also, you must know that a membership fee needs to be paid, whether you exchange your timeshare or not. This is a good article on How to use the RCI timeshare exchange system
