This Movie Theater has many problems but this evening took the cake so to say. My wife and I have been trying to see "The Passion of the Christ" since it was released and carried by this theater. We have made 7 attempts as of this writting and we were successful in recieveing two line tickets on the seventh attempt.

When it came time and our turn to pay for the line tickets (NO. 166 & 167) we were informed that we would not be able to sit together. Here lies the problem. My wife has severe Dyslexia and cannot read so I must be next to her to read the English subtitles for this movie. I informed the manager whom was selling the tickets at the ticket counter of the problem and she informed us that we would have to talk to people in the theater to give up their seats so we could sit together.

This would of course be extremely embarrasing for us both since we would have to explain to absolute strangers that my wife can't read and why. My wife is very sensitive abut people knowing of her disability.

Dyslexia is recognized by the American with Disabilites Association and the American Disabilities Act.

The manager would not even consider assiting us to see the movie as she would be to botherd to ask people to accomodate a person with a disability.

We left the tickets on the counter, and left the theater, because I was so angry that they would discriminate against a person with a disability.

Now let's make a note here, there is no assigned parking for the handicapped at this theater. There is no wheelchair access from the parking lot to get into this theater as of this writting.

From personal experience I can tell you that the two small theaters inside this building are either to hot during the summer months or to cold during the winter months.

The Real West Cinema II is not disability/handicapped friendly and I am considering filing a claim aganst them for the embarrasment they put my wife through this evening.

My wife and I have in the past traveld 120 miles one way to see a movie in Las Cruces, New Mexico and NEVER had any of the above mentioned problems. It looks like we will be doing this again tomorrow as the Las Cruces theaters have larger screens, better sound, and more comfortable seating than in Silver City for the same price.

Silver City and Grant County want us to keep our consumer dollars local, but when you deal with a business like this movie theater that could care less about the consumer needs, I say you need to earn my business, and when you discriminate against my wife, YOU LOSE!!!

This is a small town and small town politics don't play well with me.

Your wife is HARDLY "disabled" to the point where the cinema staff needs to step in and make special accommodations for you. There is no reason why you could not have asked other moviegoers to make some room for you to sit together -- you certainly could have done so without revealing your wife's condition which "embarrasses her." Most people are understanding that a couple would like to enjoy a movie together and will politely accommodate your wishes regardless of any "disability." It's called common courtesy and good manners.

I think you're missing another side of the story. You expect the movie theater staff AND patrons to basically roll out the red carpet and kiss your behinds. Yet you fail to realize how your verbally narrating the entire movie for your wife impedes others' ability to enjoy the movie in peace. No one should pay top dollar for a movie ticket and be forced to listen to your moving lips the entire movie. Maybe you should investigate other methods of "translation" for your wife, means that will not infringe on the rights of others. There ARE other people in this world than yourself, you know.

Interesting it took better than 2 1/2 years for a rebuttle. Did either of you even work for this movie theater in 2004? We have never gone back and continue to go to Las Cruces Movie Theaters because of the better prices and service. As for the smart remark to move, from Santa Clara, we have lived here since 1962 and have watched as customer service has fallen by the side. Maybe you Tims08 are a direct contributor to that situation?

We don't go back to Real West II because the bad service complaints have never stopped from friends of ours that have continued to patronize this business.

We can't wait for Trans-Lux to move in.

look we dont descriminat against any dissabilities, for instance the next door over is a company call WNG "Specialized programs for special people" who go over at least once a week and we dont turn them awaym maybe the manager didnt offer to go help find seating was becasue she has a certain time peiod to get through that line and sell tickets, did you ever think of that or does she have to stop selling because someone cant find a seat?.

and for the seating we dont have a numbered seating so no matter if you get a ticket on an opening day or a rush it doesnt mean your not going to sit with the people you came with people can sit any where they please, people always complain about where they sit sorry we cant help you on that theres one way to solve it GET THERE EARLY!

theres nothing we can do if someone wont give up thier seat they got there before you did and claimed it. secondly the heating in the theaters we cannot go in there and please everyone we turn on the air a minute later someone complains about it being too hot or cold, either you bring a jacket or something yeah thats not serving our customers but we are not going to be turning on and off the heating and cooling for every single person that complains!

also the concession workers are there to serve you and not to be bossed around by the customer, if we accidently put butter you dont have to yell and get upset and what not, they are back there working thier as*es off trying to get through the line without backing it up into ticket line, so they already have crap to take care of and not to take a customers crap.

and most of all for once we are human we make mistakes, that doesnt mean we should get yelled at for giving you the wrong popcorn or soda trust me if we were granted permission to speak back to customer and not be fake around them no customer would be happy because we put up with a manager that doesnt know how to run a business, and to top it off take crap from a customer sorry but thats just what it comes down to.

took our local business dollars and received much more for them in Las Cruces

AUTHOR: Gerald - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 01, 2004

Sunday February 29, 2004 my wife and I traveled to Las Cruces, NM since we were not able to be accomodated in the Silver City (Real West Cinema II) theater. We were able to purchase tickets for the 12:45pm showing of "The Passion fo the Christ" without waiting for a long time. We were able to sit together as there was plenty of seating availiable. We really enjoyed our movie going experience. In addition we were able to eat at the New Chinese Buffet which knocks anything in silver City into the dirt as far as I've seen for Chinese restarants.

We took our local business dollars and received much more for them in Las Cruces businesses. I think we will just continue to go this route and take our business to another city that appreciates it when it comes to the occasional luxury.

By the way, when I explained about my wife's disability to the manager at the Telshore theater, the manager went out of his way to make sure I could read to my wife the subtitles and not bother anyone else. NOW THAT's SERVICE!!
