I was called by RPM and learned that I had an outstanding bill for PGE due to roommate problems. The call was disconnected for some reason. I called PG&E and confirmed the misunderstanding and the reason for this overdue bill. It was completely my responsibility and I was willing to pay. I intended to do so through PG&E's Closed Accounts/Closing Bill Unit.

The next day, early Sunday morning, I received another call, was put on hold, and subjected to loud annoying music for 5 minutes! Once I talked to the individual, I was told that I had to pay that day or he would put this on my credit record and it would ruin my credit for the next 7 years. I asked him to give me the name and address of his company and I would mail him a check. He refused to identify himself, continuing to make more threats about my ruined credit. I emphasized that I was completely willing to pay and had the means to do so, but I did not want to give my financial information to someone who had called me and refused to identify himself. He continued to argue with me, so I simply hung up.

What ridiculous tactics this company uses. I would imagine they work, but this is so wrong and risky for people to give out their information over the phone.

I will be calling PG&E on Monday to inform them of this. I hope they care!

In rebuttal to the rebuttal, people who are called by collection agencies usually do want to pay the bill.
