About Mid June I was in need of a haircut. Being pregnant, your hair grows fast and I needed a cut. I went to the mall on a Sunday, (Not feeling well) but needing my hair cut.

I went to Regis Salon and it was just then 5:30pm. ( They closed at 6pm) I asked if they were still taking people. The lady at the front asked a few girls, and after the 1st two wouldn't help me, the 3rd one finally did.

There sign is advertised $21 for a wash and cut. No extra charges or special charges were advertised. Victoria was the lady that cut my hair. She sprayed my hair with a water bottle and then cut my hair. I didn't mind, cause I needed it done bad, so I was going to pay extra to get a better service. (So I thought)

After she was done cutting my hair she rang me up. By this point she knew that my stomach was killing me and I didn't feel well at all. (Alls I wanted to do was get my hair cut and then go home and go to bed.)

The total came to $31+ tax! My eyes widend and it took a second to register the price. I looked at the sign and looked at her. She said that since it was a "Special" cut there was an extra $10 fee. She said since I had long hair, it was "Special." My hair isn't that long. It comes a little past my shoulders and she never told me. I was so annoyed by this point that I paid it and left. I just went home and cried. I also lost sleep over it because I was so annoyed and I didn't feel well enough to argue.

First off, she never gave me what I was paying for or what she was charging me for. She never washed my hair. Then she has the nerve to charge me $10 more because it's a "Special" cut. She should have just forgot about the $10 extra (even though she never told me)and I would have paid the $21. I was so relieved to get my hair cut. But at the same time, being pregnant, not working and living on an E-2 salary. We don't have the money to pay $31 for a hair cut. Thats the reason I wait so long to get a hair cut.

To all future customers, make sure to ask the prices, because there are hidden cost and they'll take you for a ride if your pregnant.

Not all Regis employees are undereducated or unintelligent. I happen to be a Regis employee and even though I strongly dislike the company, it is unfair for you to assume that all Regis employees are ignorant and undereducated. We all attend beauty school for the required amount of hours for whatever state you live in and we all have to pass state board exams for our state to be legally and gainfully employed in the salon industry. Yes, Regis is a money hungry corporation but you also need to have common sense. Almost every salon will charge extra for long hair because it is more difficult to work with. It tangles up, has more split ends and usually needs more moisture because your natural oils don't reach the ends of your hair in a timely manner if it is any longer than shoulder length. So yes, long hair is considered special because its not the same as short hair. And not all hair is the same. As for the shampoo or lack there of, most of Regis registers haircut options all include a shampoo but if you don't get one you still have to pay the same price. Ask questions, don't just assume that the advertised price is what your going to pay.

lol this robert guy is hilarious and has some serious issues. Not only does he lack decency but manners as well. I can't believe that people like him do exist that have the nerve to talk to a pregnant lady like that. I feel so sorry for his wife. As for haircuts, I've paid a 100 for a crappy haircut and 12 for a perfect one. Money is not the answer!! Megan was ripped off.

Regis has a chain of different types of salons. Some are high end salons with well trained stylist. Some are the salons where new stylist go right after beauty school. The stylist in some of these lower end salons are put under a lot of pressure to get as much money out of the customers as they can. It's usually done by what they call add on services. If you just wanted a hair cut but the stylist gets you to get an eyebrow wax as well. Some even charge $1 extra if you want conditioner with a shampoo. I know of one manager who insisted that when the customer asked for a shampoo, cut, blowdry, and curling iron style the stylist charged the customer for a hair cut and updo instead of the regular price. I sent a registered letter to their main office over that one. The only way you are ever going to know what the prices are is when the stylist does a proper consultation. That includes an understanding of all that is involved in giving the service and how much the stylist is going to charge before you let them drape you for the service. A good hair stylist who cares will always have the time to talk to you. However in a lot a chain salons where they are all trying to hit top sales and out do each other your gonna find those stylist who rush you thru like a production line. Just ask for the 1-800# to the main office if something like this ever happens again. The department store managers have nothing to do with managing these types of salons. The salons are located in rented space within the department store.

I just wanted to say that yes the girl should have told you before she started your hair that there would be a extra charge. I have been in this business for many years and I know that for a fact people are always looking for something for nothing. Being a hair stylist is not like it was in the old days with your stylist being some dumb girl standing there because she could not make it any any other kind of work.

People that choose to do this for a living are artist and love being able to help people look better and feel better about them self. they spend a lot of money for their traning and go to classes to keep their skills up. I have a very large base of people that I do I always start out with how much all this is going to cost them and what it is going to cost to keep it up.

The one thing that bothers me the most is that you never said any thing about the cut if you liked it or not. Only that you felt that you were ripped off. Well for that price I thing that you got a bargan. After all don't you think that the girl that did you has bills of her own to pay and that she has to make a living too. Nothing comes cheap any more and nothing is free. So suck it up and next time go to the beauty school and pay 3.00 and maybe then you can write about what a bad cut you got or how you got lucky and got a hold of someone who knew what they were doing

You Need To Learn To Read the Fine Print

Yes , I used to work for Regis and I know that the large writing on the signs say one price. However this day and age there is always the fine print. In front of the large numbers it says "starting at". Just as the signs that say 50% off have before it in smaller writing "buy one get one" 50% off. Its sad but every store does it. You'll notice if you look closer which you should always do if its something sounding too good to be true or if you are on a set budget because you cant decide you dont want the haircut or cant pay at the register as you would an item in a store.

I was looking up a phone number for the Regis salon here in Jacksonville, FL and when I saw the link with Regis and Ripoff I clicked b/c I've only used Regis once. The male that did my hair was very expensive about the same as my regular stylist who is very costly but worth it, the only problem is getting an appoinment. She is really great, but I can't always pre-schedule and find that I am often unable to book. I used this guy once, and he didn't break my hair so I was going to try him again.

I was shocked to see how someone could share some information allowing others to be aware and she is then attacked in every conceiveable manner. God forbid that a pregnant women can be emotional--which is normal, and the fact that she has a fixed or restricted budget does not make her and her husband chosing to have a child a poor choice. Money does not equal a family, it just makes things a lot easier. She has every right to expect what the sign displays.

I have hair a little passed my shoulders and I went to a quick hair cuttery to get a roller set b/c I can trust a shampoo and roller set, especially when I bring my own products. The lady shocked the crap out of me, when I told her I wanted to go under the dryer with my conditioner and she said she would charge me extra to go under the dryer, I said okay, I'll just sit here and you cut other heads b/c I want the conditioner to saturate. Keep in mind she's using my products, but I guess it's utitility cost -- also I had just used this salon 2 weeks prior for the same service w/same situation and there was no problem with me going under the dryer. When it was time to settle the lady having let me sit ridiculously long and I didn't complain, quoted an outrageous price--I paid a different price, but they lost a weekly customer. I hate setting my own hair and I would pay for a wash and set weekly if my products are use, but she was rude nasty-argumentative and so on, the dryer never cooled down when the rollers were in, which allows the set to take. I took my rollers out and styled my own hair, this crazy lady wanted to charge me and did charge me 45.00 dollars for a service posted for $20.00 - and this was one of those super cuts places. I would never allow them to cut, color or use any chemicals on my hair, and the girls are older women not young girls. The last week the little older white female charged me $15.00 and I tipped her $10.00 not b/c she knew what he heck she was doing but b/c she was sweet and kind and she didn't hurt my hair. I paid $30.00 dollars after speaking with the manager, and I let them know this was the last time they would see me - I never raised my voice and I held my ground and agreed to the 30.00 dollars. When I paid the tech - I did not tip her with money but i did tip her with a note that stated, a little professionalism and customer care goes a long way in winning loyal clients - you are the nastiest person I've ever encounted in a hair salon. Whether she did anything with the tip is neither here or there, but i didn't berate her in public nor was I nasty or illogical.

We need to stop attacking people - I saw no reason to jump all over this lady when she was only sharing information to inform you. You could have taken it with a grain of salt. We are fastly becoming the a-holes of this world. We look for the negative, we steal, rip off, we are rude, thoughtless, nasty and foul, voilent, and too opinionated in the wrong way, and for no real reason. Nothing posted required all the negative post made by those of you that got all up in this lady's personal business. You all really need to read the post and move on if you don't value or agree then state your experience, but it does not validate or negate anyone elses experience. I would not have paid the money especially if I was feeling bad, just wanted a quick cut to go and was willing to forfiet the shampoo/blowdray/style to walk out with a quick wet cut (my stylist cuts dry and I like this, wet cuts are very decieving anyway and quick to do). I would have paid the advertised price b/c I elected to forgo the extra svcs, but I would have w/out arguing, stated to the stylist, you should have made this known b/4 you touched my hair b/c I can only go by your sign. I saved you some work and I'm still willing to pay full advertised price and that's it.

Let's try not to be the rudest people we can be. It's too easy to be rude, it's over rated, it's not cute, only other rude people needing a life enjoy stirring up mess, so try applying your efforts in being a better citizen and try a little intelligent approach.

Regis is a horrible, horrible salon. I can only imagine that the comments here are posted by some of the unprofessional, uneducated jackasses who are typically found at Regis. I think it is standard criteria for Regis Salons to only hire people with IQ's below that of a chimpanzee. I applaud this woman for writing about her ridiculous experience at Regis. They S-U-C-K

First off, I do understand you! When I go in to get my hair done, cut color or whatever it might be, my stylist keeps me informed. A few weeks ago she wanted to do a deep conditioning treatment, and she told me it will cost you 10 bucks more.

SO if the sign said 21, it should have been 21, if she was going to charge you more,then she should have told you, its going to be a little more. Im sorry but hair an inch past your shoulders is not long to me. But apparently it is that these days. And just for the note of all the people writing here from other states, you do not live in Killeen Texas and you do not have the first clue of what kind of crap people pull in this town to make some extra money. So if you are not from here to know how the Killeen people are treated maybe you should keep your happy little fingers typing about something else. Go lash out on people from your own area, maybe they need your "wise" words.

And I don't have the first clue who anyone thinks they could be to preach about someone being pregnant and not being able to afford their child. How do you know this? Are you her personal banker or financial advisor? Maybe she does not want to pay that much for her hair cut because she is simply trying to save money for her baby. When I was pregnant I started to cut corners on the luxury things I wanted so that I could save for my child.

You have no right to talk to someone like that, it is simply none of your flipping business.
But of course I am sure you are perfect and you do not get angry or frustrated or mad when someone does you wrong or charges you wrong, and let me tell you, when women are pregnant sometimes we get tired of the arguing and emotions are crazy for pregnant women.
And for the record of everyones price list of hair cuts. Mine is 34.95, at another store. There are only 3 stylists that I will allow to touch my hair,as I have been done wrong by them but they fixed the problem, so I continue to go to them,I was also overcharged by them to color my hair, but it got taken care of. Anyhow, hair prices vary for many reasons.

All I can say to you sweetheart is next time, get your price confirmed before they get the scissors.

hair is hair, no matter where you cut it is still the same cut, unless you need a specific style of cut. if it is straight cut then 21 is too high and hidden fees of ten extra is worst. the point is that a lot of military lives in this town and there are always extra charges to women anyway. killeen has a lot of places that do that, more expensive because of military.

i have been to regis and i havent had hair past my shouldres since 89, i never get it styled; just cut and regis has quoted me at twentyfive. believe me, reigs has messed uip some of the peole that i know hair. for the most part they do a good job but they do mess up some and dont give you a s**t of your money back.

i must admit megan you were a little hypersensiive, peoplke dont rip off pregnant peole, but is is proven through a lot of sociology experiments that women and blacks usually get a raw deal and usually from women and blacks believe it or not; women have forty percent chances of dying from a heart condition than men because care for this favours men.

dont be hyper sensitive and read up on sociology and psychology and fight back. dont blame others for being a military wife. at first all of you think ids fabulous to live that life and to have a desperate fool-bored fool-marry you and then it starts sucking. welcome to killeen, if you want a better life marry a lawyer.

I was a stylist at Regis, I am sorry about your experience

Hi there! Speaking as a stylist (of 18 years) and have been an employee of Regis Salon twice, $21 is a good price. When I left a year and a half ago the price for a shampoo/cut/style was $22 and now it is $24 (stylist) and $28 (designer).

Unforturnately I don't know what there rules are there but I can tell you there were nights that we closed at 9pm and I was there until 10 or 10:30 because I finished my service. No matter what, I did the full Shampoo/cut/style. If the customer said he/she doesn't want it shampooed and/or styled then I would still charge full price, but if I did it by choice, I would discount 2-3 dollars.

Now, with long hair, (mid back and longer) that can add more, sometimes. More times than not, I don't add more for haircuts/reg. styles.
The one downfall that I always found with Regis is that they don't have registers that have the display that shows the customers the total.

I have worked with a couple of girls that would tell their customers that their service was $60 and only ring up $40 in the register. So they get $20 in pocket plus whatever tip the customer gives them and then payday. That made the rest of us mad that worked hard and went home with less because we were honest. Oh well, we can sleep at night and my customers respect me.

I wish you could've had a more pleasant experience, as that is what your visit to the salon should be. My goal has always been to have my own salon, but it is too expensive.
Don't get me wrong, color, perms, updo's, etc... they do vary in price depending on the length of your hair, but that should always be quoted to you when you are in the chair, but before services are rendered.

I hope this helps. Good luck the next time you go. Please don't make that experience the last visit for you. Give someone else a chance to change your mind. You may be pleasantly surprised.

FYI: Regis would like haircuts to take only a half hour. I always allowed 1 hr., never cared what they thought and my customers loved me for it especially when they got their head messaged during their shampoo, a cut, and then a complete style. All for $22.

I will try to check back for updates, but if I don't find you again. I hope it all works out. Good luck!

But $31 is super cheap! I have shoulder length hair and my cut and color runs about $175 plus tips for the shampoo girl, the colorist and the stylist. I know that the ads for the discount haircutters have a disclaimer that usually states something like "long hair slightly higher" when quoting prices. If you don't want to spend money to get your hair cut, may I suggest that you call your local vocational school? Their students are supervised by instructors and the cost is extremely minimal. OR...in order to bring money into the house, go to school and learn to do it yourself.

Lynda, anyone familiar with Clayton, North Carolina (where you claim to be from) knows that it is practically the trailer park capital of the country. Judging from your spelling and grammar, you have probably lived there most of your life, and I question what you know about a real salon-quality haircut. $20 to $30? Give me a break. You probably get your hair done at Fantastic Sam's or SuperCuts, except for days when you decide to splurge and endulge in luxury at the Walmart styling salon! Do you honestly think that the salon should have "informed" her that her hair was long? I mean, duh... long hair is long hair. It is because of people like you who expect to be informed of common-sense things that places like McDonalds have to write "caution: this beverage is hot" on their coffee cups!

My wife uses a good one. Fast food haircuts look just like I would expect them to. My wife has hair down to her waist, and it costs about $60(not including tip) to wash, cut, dry. As for being a fool, that's your opinion, so be it. I wouldn't even think a $21 haircut for a woman was any more reasonable than a $78/4 wheel brake job, yet there are shops that advertise that nonsense too. The average price you claim is for the fast food places with kids cutting hair. Try going to a real one with adults doing the work, and you'll pay more. I'll try and put it another way...if you want a Tuxedo, don't go to Walmart.

I think all of you are giving Megan a hard time. If the sign was posted $21.00, this is what Megan should of been charged.

The stylist did not shampoo her hair. Megan should of been advised that the haircut would be ten dollars extra for the length of her hair if the stylist was going to charge $10.00 more.
Past her shoulders is not considered $10.00 more especially when Megan was not even shampooed and blow-dry.

You guys are foolish if you would pay this if the sign says $21.00. As far as Robert goes, if your wife pays double than you're the fool. The average haircut price for a salon is $20 - $30.

Megan you have a right to be upset!!

If a haircut can get you so worked up that you cry and can't sleep, what are you going to do once you have a baby? Do you have any idea what it's like when they're crying all night, or when they're sick and you feel helpless? Or the day in and day out work that it takes? I think you may want gain a little emotional maturity, or you're all in for a rough ride.

Oh puhleeeease! They did not "take you for a ride" because you were pregnant! I hate to break it to you but you are NOT the first person in the world to ever be pregnant, so you should really stop using that as a crutch to get sympathy from others. First off, every salon I know of charges extra for hair that touches or goes past the shoulders, as that is considered "long" hair. Had you simply confirmed how much it would cost BEFORE you sat in the chair and authorized them to start cutting, you would not have been in this situation in the first place. Also, if the price was to include a wash and they did not do this, why did you not speak up and insist upon a wash while you were there? You couldn't have been feeling too badly if you were able to cry about the situation and "lose sleep over it" that same day. Just be a responsible consumer and don't blame others for your problems.

Why are you pregnant if you cannot afford children? This is obvious because you cannot afford a haircut. Why are you married to a PVT? He cannot support two, much less three on his pay. You both made some very bad decisions. As for the price of the haircut...$31 is cheap.

My wife spends at least double that, not including the tip. You couldn't sleep because of the emotional distress the price of a haircut caused? Are you also insane? You married a soldier or airman. He can get killed. That would be distress, not a price for a haircut. Holy Moly! I applaud your husband for serving but you both need to start engaging your brains.

Use the facilities on base whenever possible. It will be less expensive. My wife and I lived on soups and salads for years. We had real meals a couple of times/week untill I made rank and strted pulling in decent money. She also did not work, which made it very difficult.

If she had worked, we could have had all of the nice things everyone else we knew had. You're stuck with a kid now, so get ready for simple living at best. Raise your child yourself. Do not pawn him/her off on strangers and expect good things to happen. Support your husband in all aspects of his military career. Good luck.
