I was working on my computer enternet when i got this pop up message that my cpu was in danger of have spy ware and a few other things. It said i could try a free Power Cleaner to find out what was wrong with my system. I did the clean as they suggested and I tried to fix the 41 problems it said i had. That is when the other screen came up that i needed to purchase the Key code $39.99 in order to fix these problems, so i purchased it. A couple of days later i had more problems with my cpu, so i took it into the shop where they had to reload my operating system. When i got it back home i had to download the program again and used the same key code and it found the same 41 errors on my system. I have tried to contact this company if it is a company with no results trying to get my money back. This must be a ripoff.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

You've been HAD !

Your problem started when you responded to the phony popup.

If the techs reinstalled your OS, the problem would have gone
away - sounds like you've been had there, too...

Next time, just Google the complete text of the 'error' message
or the product they want you to purchase with the word "scam"
after it and watch the amazing results !!!

Get Avast free Firewall, IE7 Pro and Spybot S & D and your
problems will be over...

Pick up Ad Aware free edition while you're at it...

You are absolutely correct..it is a scam

Registry Cleaner XP is actually spyware. So basically what you did was paid money to a company for spyware protection that is one of the worst distributors of spyware. Three things you can do, if you are computer savvy, you can google using the prhrase Remove RegistryCleanerXP and there are sites that teach you how to do it. If you are uncomfortable with messing with the Registry, then you should do one of the other two options. Get a professional, that you could find in your yellow pages if you live in or near a large city or purchase reputable spyware removal software. I use SpySweeper and there is Spydoctor. There are others you can find and some of the ones who claim they are free are really not.

It is imperative that you remove this spyware because it will not go away by itself. You will need to file a complaint with your Attorney General because this scam company has a reputation of not giving refunds.
