International Library of Poetry
Online one day, I came across an interesting link that read-Free Poetry Contest! You Could Win and Have Your Poem Submitted Into a Limited Editon Anthology! Cash Prizes! I thought to myself, 'Ok, I'll give this a try.' I love writing poetry and spent a lot of time writing the poem that I entered, so I was ecstatic when I recieved a letter from the so-called International Library of Poetry. 'Wow',I thought to myself. 'Maybe I have talent'. My family, being that my mother is a single parent, is not very wealthy, so when I read that $50,000 in cash prizes were being awarded, I thought I had some extra money for college. I did not pay the extra fee for my copy of the book, and am very glad for that now. I had the idea that my poetry was something special and new, and that I could win more contests. While looking for more online today, I found a site that exposed poetry contest frauds, and decided to look and see which ones to look out for. International Library of Poetry was on the top of the list, and my dreams and hopes of being an acclaimed poet were over forever. There were letters, news reports, and expositories on this fraudulent organization. A class of first graders had entered the contest(some not even knowing what poetry was), and all were excepted. Their hopes rose and fell as well. Thank you for opening my eyes. Claire Click here to read other Rip-off Reports on Famous Poets Society

Dallas Public Library ripoff unsafe Dallas Texas
The Dallas Central Library had a 'False Alarm' during early lunchtime yesterday. Elevators went down and only the First Floor was Evacuated! It is true that World's Record Witness Jeff S. Behm was logged in online among others and could not even go down the Stairwell at the time. I believe that the US Bomb Data Center ought be notified. There was talk going aroung about this Incident towards the end or after lunchtime. Jeff Dallas, TexasU.S.A.

The following is yet another example of someone trying to take advantage of someones creativity. Here is something that effects me personnally, I contacted Montel Williams Show w/o a response back. International Library Of Photography ripoff Owings Mills Maryland
The International Library of Photography , is unbelievable I never imagined being ripped-off them. They make it seem to be a way of promoting your talent, but it's really promoting their company. There are so many others having the same problem as I do concerning this matter. I started with this company in 2001 enter in a amateur photography contest listed in the Charlotte Observer Newspaper prize was a $1000.00. The catch was/is you received a letter stating that you did not win the cash prize but a better/more valuable one because you/your work will be publish/publication... following this another letter stating there a convention award something to this affect wanting more material, you must send them money for lodging etc. Lord, I am so glad there were no response from me pretaining to attend their function. I have seven (7) photos on their website www.picture.com just search with my name ... there it is. I know they have made a profit from this. I am due my share and the rest of people whom they have taken from. Once, again thanking you, I have been ripped off in two different catogories pretaining to picture.com and poetry.com. My daughter, who is very under age, submitted several poems. One was chosen to be published in this so called book. Doesn't anyone care that she is under age? Well, we talked and decided to purchase one of their books to see her writing in writing. Low and behold she received the book today (03/10/04) and her poem is on the first page. She was very happy. It was then that I tried to locate this company on the internet and this is the site I found. What a crock! I wish I would have looked here sooner, before I was out the $50. We are also getting the various fliers about the Silver Award and trip to Disney. Isn't there something out there that protects blind people like us? Jackie Littleton, ColoradoU.S.A.

International Library Of Photography ripoff, fraud, false advertising Owings Mills Maryland
O.K. I am really getting nervous here! I recently received a letter from the International Library of Photography (Picture.com) stating that my photo was a finalist in the contest and regardless of my purchase would be published in an upcoming anthology entitled Endless Journeys. Alright I am a big sucker and I love to take pictures to I'm yelling to the heavens above right? So you're d_ _ _ right I hurried up and sent in that money to have my photo published! After all, I'm just an amateur. So I happened to check tonight on the release date and what do I see when I click on order the book featuring this photo? an error message saying, Sorry, but our Selection Committee has not yet accepted this photograph for publication in our hardbound anthology series. By the way it is suppose to be 3-31-05. Comforting isn't it? Now I see problems on the internet with this company and worst, their e-mail address is invalid. The phone is answered by what sounds like the guy who does the listings for movie theaters. This may be a costly lesson so others beware! Anyone else with such an experience???? Enoch Pratt Free Library ripoff Baltimore Maryland
I was threatened and fired by Dr. Carla Hayden through her administration, Russell Jolivet chief of human resources and Ann Smith because I spoke out against the employee wrongdoing that was and is still going on at the Enoch Pratt Free Library toward the non-professional employees. A meeting was held to tell me to go and not return untill they tell me too, being fired the quiet way. Dr. Hayden said through her administration that as far as she's concern, I know too damn much for my own good. The incident involves a cover-up to try to protect a scandal from occuring down at City Hall under Mayor Martin O'Malley whom Dr. Hayden is a member of his mayor cabinet. Enoch Pratt Free Library comes under the City and the State as an agency. Mayor O'Malley is running for the position of governor of Maryland. And the Baltimore Sun newspaper is in on the cover-up. Because the Baltimore Sun General Manager/Senior Vice President John F. Patinella is a member of the Board of Directors of Enoch Pratt Free Library. The Baltimore Sun newspaper will not print my complaint in their newspaper. Several employees of Enoch Pratt Free Library have told me that the Dr. Hayden is getting the help from the Baltimore Sun newspaper to try and keep it away from the public and away from the newsmedia. In my opinion they should be exposed because I feel that the public has a right to know. Karl Baltimore, MarylandU.S.A.

International Library of Poetry Poetry.com HAD me fooled too!!Owings Mills Maryland
I thought Poetry.com was a great place to post my poetry and I loved entering the Poetry In Motion contest. Imagine how excited I was when I found out I was the weekly winner of that contest was told I had won $100.00!! Well, my excitement soon faded. I have been waiting for 2 years for the $100.00 that they promised me. I have contacted them numerous times (about 10) and EVERYTIME I do, the first thing they ask is for my correct address ~ just to make sure they have the right one. I have lived here for 4 years and I have told them that each time. They insult my intelligence! I have come to the conclusion that no matter how many phone calls I make to them, I will never see the $100.00 that I was so excited about and PROMISED I would receive. They have put me off time and time again, shown me nothing but a lack of respect and now show the saddest kind of predictablity. By the way, their so called Anthologies they want you to pay an arm and a leg for are cheap, poorly done and do not give the poets the space or dignity they deserve. Yes I did receive one, but had I known in advance what a disappointment it would be to see my poem in print, I would not have paid one red cent for it and have since requested a refund. It will probably end up being a waste of my time like trying to get the prize I was promised has been. I am writing this in the hope that it will save at least one person the time, the energy and the money that the Library of Poetry will try to extort out of them. Not to mention the utter disappointment and humiliation they will bring. Jodi Spokane, Washington

Poetry.com, The International Library Of Poetry ripoff Owings Mills Maryland
I submitted a poem on Poetry.com about a month ago and I wasn't thinking anything would come out of it, I was just messing around on the internet. However, I received a letter in the mail today saying that my poem was picked out of thousands and is already qualified to be a semi-finalist. They also said my poem would be published in a book called Immortal Verses. I was so excited. I couldn't wait to tell my family that I was going to have a poem published in a book!!! I could hardly believe it. When I showed it to them, they thought it was kind of weird that THEY wanted to publish MY poem but make US pay for a whole bunch of stuff. And finally one said they thought it was a total scam. It really upset me to hear them say that because I was so excited that something so wonderful was going to happen. I didn't believe them at first. But I got online anyway to see if I could find out if they were legit. and I found this website and all of your stories that was the exact same as mine and how they scammed all of you. and now I believe them and I'm glad I found all of your stories before I got scammed too. I think that Poetry.com needs to be somehow shut down and stop getting people's hopes up. and Howard Ely needs to be put away. And I really hope that other people who receive the same information after they entered their poems will get online like I did and find all of our stories so they won't get scammed too. I thank everyone for their stories and from saving me from being scammed. Sherry Jasper, GeorgiaU.S.A.

The International Library Of Poetry ripoff Owing Maryland
I received a email from the international library of poetry of winning a poetry contest. I brought up the website to submit a poem to write for the contest. Well, I submitted a poem A Star. About 2 months went by I received a letter stating that I was selected by their selected judges to be enter into Eternal Potraits hardcase book of theirs that was coming this fall. I never recceived anything else from them after submitting this poem. They also send me a letter and email me the same letter. to edit any modifications of the poem. I submitted the information they requested and email them a copy also. I have notified by Noble Publisher Company that they saw my poem in the US and they too wanted to published a poem. I submitted a poem and ordered two books with that poem in it by Visa. I have submitted nine poems to this website. My poems are special to me, part of me to know that they have them without my consent. If I was aware of this scam I would never submitted nothing to a site that has hurt so many. Anyone out there can use my poems and use my name. Make money by my poems. I hope that we all can do something to get back our poems and make sure they are out of business for good. International Library Of Poetry ripoff! Owens Mills Maryland
Poetry.com, also known as the International Library of Poetry, or the International Society of Poetry, recruits famous poets to preside at their annual conventions. These poets, according to the poetry.com website, are professors and PhDs in literature at leading universities. These respected poets are used by the ISP to lend an air of legitimacy to an organization that victimizes thousands of people each year. One can only specualte why these poets prostitute themselves to such an organization. It might be a good idea if folks were to e-mail these professor poets to let them know their opinions regarding the ISP, poetry.com, and ILP, also opinions regarding anyone who would lend their talents to assist such an organization. Following are the names of the professors who appear at the ISP conventions. -- Len Roberts, ISP Educational director. Fleda Brown, Deleware Poet Laureate. WD Snodgrass Herbert Woodward Martin. Grace Cavalieri. (email addresses removed by ripoffreport.com) I got these e-mail addresses off the internet. So I don't believe I'm invading anybody's privacy. If these poets are proud of their connection to Poetry.com and the ISP they should be glad to hear from those who've entered their contests. Robert Lexington, KentuckyU.S.A.
