We purchased our home in 2001, Tom Gross was our realtor. Everything was fine -- until we signed the paperwork to finalize the sale. Then he disappeared!!

He never put into writing the work that we agreed that the SELLER would pay for. They had agreed to fix the roof...it was never done before closing. They had given us an estimate of $1,000 to remove an old broken down trailer from the rear yard, and then he never provided the estimate that was supposed to go along with the deal at closing. The seller had given us $500 towards the trailer removal (which was supposed to be half), and it cost us over $1,500 to have the thing removed! The roof ended up costing us over $700 to fix.

We called him several times to get a copy of the estimate for the trailer so we could find out who would do it for $1,000 but he never returned our calls. We also called about fixing the roof and he never returned our calls. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and when he got the letter, he made a nasty phone call to me stating "OK....YOU WANT TO GO TO COURT...I'LL SEE YOU IN COURT"...then he hung up on me. I called him back and told him that was rude and that ALL I WANTED Was what was verbally agreed upon. He told me to check the buyers disclosure, which SAID that the roof leaked...DUH... HE WAS SUPPOSED TO GET THE REPAIR BY THE SELLER IN WRITING AND NEVER DID!! He was supposed to get us the estimate for the trailer in writing and never did.

His last words to me were "I will send you $1,000 after the holidays" to make up for his mistake. He asked me to send him the receipts. I CERTIFIED MAILED him the receipts -- and also phoned him...SURPRISE, SURPRISE -- No response.

He conveniently was not able to attend our home inspection, which was ok by us...BUT THEN HE DIDN'T EVEN COME TO OUR CLOSING!!! He sent some woman (we had never met) to do his job -- and on our final walk thru, NONE of the repairs were done!! We went to the closing table with a bunch of questions and no one to answer then (as this woman did not know anything about our house). The realtors there just kept telling us everything would be ok, and we signed the papers. WE SHOULD HAVE NEVER SIGNED THE PAPERS UNTIL ALL OF OUR QUESTIONS WERE ANSWERED!!! But, I guess that is how you learn not to trust people....

His real estate firm is also no help...I called his boss and also emailed him and got no response. The Better Business Bureau was also no help. He is rated one of the top realtors in sales, which makes sense, because he makes his sale...and moves on quick. He has "no time" to do his job properly. I will never use their real estate firm again, and have also told everyone I know to do the same. They got paid WAY too much for what they did. All he did was show us a house and print out some paperwork... once the deal was made, he was the "disappearing man".
