I have been a customer for two years at this store! I have never been late nor have I EVER missed a payment. Two weeks ago i had a death in the family and was late paying them, They have harrassed me repeatly. they have call every one one my contact list I gave them. They came to my home and let about 20 flyers and taped them around my entire door. I spoke with Roosevelt(CSR) in the store and told him that since  I was off work for the funeral I didn't get a check and I would be in to pay it when I got paid in a week or maybe I could borrow it before, he said that was fine. I received a visit at 9:00pm from 3 men threatning to call the police on me and wanting to take my mercahndise. Remember, I have NEVER been late or missed a payment in two years. They were very disrespectful, and treated me like I was a thief. I;m still in the same place, I haven't changed jobs or my phone number. Even the iRS makes payment arrangements. Times are hard for everyone but I would think that they would treat a loyal customer, who by the way has also referred customers to them, with more respect and dignity that this. I would NEVER rent anything else from them and anyone who does should be aware! This is unbelieveable! This place is a total RIPOFF, Cousumers beware this is NOT the place to rent from!

Did you call them to make arrangements?

AUTHOR: Ignoranceyou - (United States of America)

I have been a customer with them also. I know what you mean, but you have to put yourself in they're shoes. I'm not dogging you, and but did you call them and let them know of what was going on? That's what I think would make them call your contact list and put flyers on you door. Any rto would do that if you are didn't make contact on a delinquent merchandise. I know when I rented from them that they made it clear that there are no grace periods and if you can't make a payment then call them to set up a arrangement. I if you didn't then yes they prob will try to get ahold of you anyway possible, because think of how many people will just blow them off and try to steal they're stuff, and because in all actuality it is still they're stuff until it's paid off. But like I said I don't see them doing all that unless your dodging them.

Only 9 days LATE!

AUTHOR: 100% payment,on-time - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, August 15, 2010

I respect what you were saying but I wasn't two weeks over due. I also called and spoke to CSR in the store(Roosevelt) who assure me i could pay them when I got paid, which would then be two weeks, I DID NOT leave anything out of the story. These are the most rudest, immature, silly bunch of individuals I have ever encountered. I have been an excellent customer for two years, NEVER late, NEVER missed a payment and I was treated like a commend criminal! They threaten to call the police on me, for being late, mind you I still reside in the same place, haven't cahnged my phone number or my job. they refused to work with me! If for the fact I was nearly finished paying for the merchandise, i would GLADLY give them back their merchandise! I have never been treated like this as a consumer! I will NEVER refer anyone to purchase anything from Rent 1st or will I ever rent anything from them, EVER!!!!

I know the rent to own world

AUTHOR: Leann - (U.S.A.)

I have worked in the rent to own business for many years.  I can't help but feel you are leaving out some information to your story.  I have never worked for this particular RTO company but I'm sure the policies and procedures are similar.  In order for you and your references to get calls repeatedly, you would have to be more than two weeks late in your payment.  If you have more than 20 door hangers or flyers then you are definately more than two weeks late.  If an excellent customer of mine came upon a situation as yours, I would work with them.  They would have to pay something to show a "good faith effort."  Then they could catch everything up when they get back from the funeral.  But they would also have to pay at least a week ahead when doing so.

On a side note, you would be better off saving your money for something you really want rather than going the RTO route.  You are going to spend so much more money renting than you will buying.  Best of luck to you.
