The local rac doesn't open until 930am. At 820am they call my husband at work, which has happen from day one, a call for payment. Today is the due date. And from 530pm til 715pm tonight they have called and been rude about drop[ing the contract unless my husband said he was sorry for speaking to them rude about calling his job everytime. I myself tried to talk to someone in charge, to find how they could cancel my contract considering I have never had to pay a late charge, and I kept getting hung up on.

At 8pm the truck and two car loads of people drive up and start yelling and crap! My husband ask them to leave and they instead pulled to the road blocking the road. We called the county to come out because it was really putting my children in a terrible state of mind. My 12year old was so nervous he couldn't finish his math.

When the sherirf arived they still had the road blocked. The officer spoke to us, then to them, and they were asked to leave by the police. The officer did tell us that they were filing something to get our things.

Can they do that considering we have paid 700.00, no late charges and it will not even be late until tomorrow? Please help the working people. $700.00 isn't something I can just throw away. Thanks.

Pointing out a few things for clarity...

AUTHOR: Justin - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 14, 2010

As a Manager of RAC, I will point out a few things so all can understand.  One of you nailed it on the head about the purpose of the "due today calls"  Yes, we will call on the day the account comes due to remind the customer that their rental agreement is up for renewal.  Why do I say renewal?  Because you are paying on or before the due date to renew the rental agreement to a new date that falls agreeably to your next payday or time that best suits you to pay ontime and not get behind.  If you do not make your payment on or before the due date the agreement has EXPIRED.  Another reason for the calls is that we do not send out paper bills.  A phonecall reminding you to pay your rental before it expires will also save you from incurring reinstatement fees.  And they are called reinstatement fees because if you are paying past the renewal date, your rental is expired and at that time it is the decision of the company/store/manager/employee, whether or not to allow you to renew the agreement by paying the reinstatement fee and continuing forward with the rental.  An example of why you may be denied reinstatement: multiple occurances of failure to pay your rent ontime.  No there is not a policy that says we can pickup our merchandise if you are rude to us on the phone, in fact over time you get used to it.  And people who get frustrated on the phone usually are the ones that refuse to pay ontime, and make the argument that "you always get your money"  Yes, that may be the case, however we are not getting the money ontime and they don't seem to understand that.  Pay ontime, pay early and you should NEVER have any problems.  I LOVE my ontime payers, and I MEAN THAT.  Responsible people make my job easy, and I would do anything within my power for those customers.  I understand that there are several people who get disgruntled with RAC, but there is almost always an underlying reason.  Not that RAC is mean and bad and out to get you.  NOBODY will ever put a gun to your head and make you rent an item, and you can cancel anytime by simply making arrangements to have the item picked up.  I would suggest that you  take a financial management class and learn to save your money, budget, and get the things you want if rent to own isn't for you.

Questioning this report.

AUTHOR: Infonet - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 05, 2008

I want to point out that the agreements have a two day grace period where you will incur no late fees, however, in the agreement it states that you agree to make payments on or before the due date. If you do not pay by the end of your due date, you are still considered late, grace period or not. And as far as the calls at work, it is against rent a center policy to do FRCs (friendly reminder calls) to someones work number. So either this report is bogus, and they pay after their due date religiously, yet still within their grace period...or their account manager is drastically breaking protocol.

You can always ask the police.

AUTHOR: Steven - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 01, 2008

Ask the police under which laws they can do it. Different states have different laws. They could help you out or ask the consumer affairs what actions lenders can take in your state.

Alot of states consider things like this to be civil matters unless there is evidence or reason to believe that a crime is being committed. Then they will back whoever is in the right (or wrong depending on your point of view).

I guess they could swear out a warrant for theft by conversion and to confiscate the goods. Some states say that if you have someones property and they ask for it then you have to give it to them. Since you are just "renting to own" the furniture it technically belongs to them until you pay it in full.

Have you been late several times before. You say they have been calling you from day 1. That sounds like a lot of effort on their part if you had been paying on time this whole time.

If you can't afford to keep it then give it back. True, 700 dollars is nothing to sneeze at but do you want to deal with people like RAC all your life because you have bad or weak credit. That's the way things will go if you make them play it out that way.

HUMMM JUST WONDERING

AUTHOR: Amy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, April 15, 2006

I AM WONDERING IF A MIX UP IN PAPER WORK CAUSED THE WRONG ACCOUNT TO BE REPOED. IF EVERYTHING SHE SAYS IS TRUE THEN THEY WOULD HAVE NO REASON TO EVEN BOTHER THEM. I AM WONDERING IF SOMEONE WITH THE SAME OR CLOSE NAME SHOULD BEEN THE REPO. AS FAR AS 2 CARS LOADS AND THE TRUCK BLOCKING THE STREET I WOULD SAY THAT IS OVER LOAD AND THEY NEED TO RETHINK THAT PRATICE. I HAVE READ ALOT OF THESE POSTINGS AND IT SEEMS TO BE A BIG PRATICE AT SOME OF THE RAC STORES. I AM A FORMER RENTER AND I WENT OUT OF TOWN AND FORGOT ABOUT CALLING THEM AND WHEN THEY CAME OUT TO MY HOUSE IT WAS ONLY A TRUCK AND 2 GUYS. I PAID THEM RIGHT THEN AND THERE WAS NO PROBLEM BUT I WAS IN A SMALL TOWN THEN AND EVERYONE KNEW EVERYONE. MUST BE THE BIGGER CITY THING

POSTED: Sunday, April 09, 2006

As a former Account Manager for RAC I find it hard to belive the story is 100% factual. I belive if this persons accout was pulled up you might see they were late numerous times and/or other factors. On the day your accout is due they will call you(if you are a late payer) to give you a friendly reminder that your accout is due today. As for the supposed actions those account managers would no longer have a job. So please dont believe everything you read on the internet.

Politeness clause?

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 07, 2005

The contract is binding on both sides. If the customer makes all the payments on or before the due date, the store has to let him keep the furniture. Period. There may be other requirements such as not moving without notifying them, but I'm sure there's no politeness clause.

When they call you, there isn't even an ettiquite obligation to be polite. You don't have to talk to them at all. If you say something that offends them, they are free to hang up. They started it after all.

Don't think about how much you've already paid when deciding whether to continue. Consider how much MORE you will have to pay to complete the contract and acquire ownership of the furniture versus what it is worth. If, at this point, the furniture is still going to cost a lot more than what it is worth, you're better off sending it back.

Dave did you read my title?

AUTHOR: Leticia - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 07, 2005

It says nothing about yelling. It does mention that he must have been biligerent. Since neither you or I know what was said on the phone call I was wondering about that?

Some companies will cancel the order due to that. (In fact I've read many RORs where people who were completely biligerent posted the entire phone conversation because their order or account, etc had been cancelled due to said phone call.) And it is due to some of those that I posted that response. (I was using the doctor's as an anology. But I realize now that it doesn't help what I was trying to say.)

I do understand the frustration at being called all of the time at work. But that's why I asked when they asked for the calls to stop. Or have them call the house?

I hope that it does not happen. Because I think that furniture is a lot more important than money.

What an idiotic response

AUTHOR: Dave - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 07, 2005

WOW Leticia, what an idiot. They can't cancel a contract because somebody yelled at them. He has every right to yell at them for contacting him at work. If what the OP says is true, and they have never been late, then the contract is valid and binding in any court of law, and if they want to recind their offer, they MUST pay them for the furniture.

Crawl back under that rock you slithered from.

Angela, if you are not late, don't worry about it. They cannot do anything to you. If they do, they can be sued for a LOT of money. Just keep your receipts to prove you are current with your payments, you will need to show the sheriff the next time you call them. It sounds like they will be at your house quite a few times in the future.

Your husband must have been REALLY biligerent.

AUTHOR: Leticia - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 06, 2005

That would give them the power to cancel the account unless he apologized.

Did you or your husband ask them politely before this incident to not make those calls? Or did he just go off on someone whom was just doing their job? (which is a curtesy to you, so that you do not incur late fees.)

Will he go off on the doctor's receptionist who calls to remind him of an appointment, because he knows when the appointment is and everytime he makes one they call to remind him?
