Hello, I've been having a problem with Rent A Center now for the last couple of weeks. Well I have got a computer , and a Nintendo Wii out from them. You see I have been making all my payments on time for over a few months now. I was paying monthly up until this month. Well money was starting to run short this month, So I had to start making weekly payments. I was making the payments every Wednesday which totaled up to around $80 a week. Well everything was fine until today. I went in to make my payment, when I got home my wife looked at the receipt, and she noticed there was late fees being charged on us.

Well after looking it over, and thinking about it we couldn't figure out where these charges could be coming from. So she called up to the office, and they went on to tell her that we were being charged late fees, because we wasn't making are payments on a Saturday. We also found out that I have been paying a week on Wednesday , and only getting 3 days out of it. And then they charge us a full week payment as a late fee for not coming back in 3 days after already making a full weeks payment. They told her today on the phone that they just started making people pay on Saturday, and we were never informed on this. But this still shouldn't matter if I'm making a payment in the middle of the week it should carry over.

So it appears I have been doing nothing in order to pay off my items. I've just been paying the late fees every week that I didn't know I had, and feel I shouldn't have. Being I have not been late to ever make a payment. So basically what I am here to ask is, can I do anything to fix this problem of unfair late fees. I do plan on going in a Saturday from here on out to make my payment. But I feel I should be at least refunded for the fees when I was never late. Any help will be much appreciated.

Typical customer response

Its not just something they have started doing. Its been that way for years that weekly payments are due on Saturdays. Your not being charged an extra week in late fees. Your only being charged $5 per each account and it sounds like you have 2. Do you not realize how much stress your causing on these employees by not paying your bill on time. The guys who are calling you are getting yelled at by the manager for not making their card close because you are past due and making a monday card open because you did not pay on Saturday. The company deserves to collect the late fees. Your being late has probably caused these employees to get written up, losing their jobs, or missing plans they had after work because they have to stay late and collect past due accounts. These people have families and your not making it easy on them.

response to "all RAC employees, current or ex, are con artists"

that is very rude of you to assume that everyone that does or has worked at RAC is a con artist. my brother worked at RAC for 5 years and quit because he hated working there, and he is NOT a con artist! theyre just doing their job. if you dont like RAC, dont go there!

The Store's Rights

AUTHOR: Ryan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, April 12, 2008

The store does not have a right to retype your agreement at the original term when your agreement expires. That sounds like some B.S. someone tried to feed you at the counter. Reinstatement fee...Late Fee, it's all the same. It's a penalty for being late...period. You "renew" your agreement by making the payment. Your account "expires" with it goes past due. Blah blah blah.

I reccomend reading your agreement. If you do that you will probably understand it better than anyone that works at the RAC that you rent at.

It is not a late fee it is a reinstatment fee.

When you are coming in to renew your agreement on wednesday instead of Saturday your rental has been expired for 4 days now if it is due on Saturday and in true action the store has the right to retype the rental back to its original term. The fee that you pay is to allow you to pick up where you left off not a late fee.

Other wise you would have to start all over again, keep in mind the transaction is a rental agreement not convetional financing. With a rental you have the right to return at the end of your rental term which is the next rental payment date. or come in the day that it is due and renew the agreement to continue using the product in your home. the best thing to do is just do what was agreed apon when the agreement was signed. they will make sure the product works for you and you agree to renew on time. Simple.

Scam Artists

AUTHOR: Ryan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 28, 2008

I don't see how informing a consumer about the program makes me a scam artist. There are plenty of places to buy things. If you don't won't to do rent to own you don't have too. Some people find value in it and others do not.

To the person that made the scam artist comment. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience with a rent to own store. We are not all the same.

Here's a tip.

AUTHOR: Dave - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 27, 2008

Give it back to them and tell'em to shove it up there a**. All employees from RAC, current or ex are con-artist. They are trained to make you feel like a prisoner if you screw up. Dont worry dude, just buy the things you need...thats the best way to get back at them.

Late Fees

AUTHOR: Ryan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 27, 2008

Hello

Here is how rent to own payments work. If you pay once a month the date of the month that your payment is due will never change as long as you make the full monthly payment each month.

Let's say for an example you were making your first few payments on the first of each month. Times then get a little tight and then you pay weekly because that is what is going to work for your budget. If you go in to make your payment on the 5th and your payment came due on the 1st and you pay 1 week your next payment will be due on the 8th. A week pays for 7 days.

If that confuses you a little bit I would go into the store and ask for a copy of your payment history so you can understand when your payment was due and when you were making your payments. The late fee is $5 per agreement and it is added to the account when you are 1 day late.

Your late fees paid will not be refunded. The best thing you can do going forward is to understand the dates you payments are due and then make your payment on or before the due date to avoid late fees.

Don't feel bad, a lot of people get confused when they change the frequency of their payments. I good salesperson would have explained these things to you when you signed the agreement.

Best of luch.
