The DVD is hard but you are allowed to use all resources available to you. It is an open book exam. You can use the internet, you can use the cds, you can use the dvd.

Here is a hint that will help you: When I was taking the test. I asked Mr. Gordon a lot of questions and he helped me through the stuff. If you get stuck on something, email him and maybe he can help. You can get his email by calling Res-Com.

I can't speak about how many inspections you may go on but I have been going steadily on about 5-10 inspections per week. When I first started, I couldn't keep up so I was only sent out on an average of 1-2 per week until I got up to speed.

hi i have passed all 3 tests and am now waiting for the training dvd. mohammed stated that if you fail the dvd test you dont get the job. my question is if the dvd is harder the the 3 tests. i took the tests in about 3 weeks and passed all 3 the first time.if possible i would also like an email address from one of the current employees. am just wondering if there are leads available and how far you are travelling to get them.i am looking to do 3 inspections a week part time within 50 miles from my home. is this possible. also how much is the insurance a month. thank you all for you responses.

I have worked for Res-Com for little over 6 months and they have been very honest, caring, and professional with me.

A company can charge whatever it wants for their products. If you think that their prices are too high, don't buy them!!!!! Go somewhere else to buy them. If you actually read the first line of this page: http://rescom.cc/p3621.html You will note that the first sentence on the page reads: Please Note: Equipment purchase is not required of Res-Com inspectors. I don't know how much more clear they can get.

Also, the $290 training program is just that: a TRAINING program. Once you pass your training, you have to undergo company assessment. They are not going to hire any people that are not to their standards. They want only the best trained people for their company. The statement William is making is like saying: "Harvard should hire me without me scoring extremely high on the SATs." People get into colleges all the time without passing the SATs but they don't get into HARVARD! That's the difference!

You can also buy pack of a THOUSAND swabs for about $15 at any drug store....SO GO BUY THEM!

Lazy people always want things handed to them on a silver platter. Anything worth having is worth working for. Otherwise everyone would have it. Remember that. Res-Com has been fair, up-front, and honest with me from day 1.

I recently ran across an ad by Rescom in Kansas City, Mo. I called the # and I am confused by this company. I have reviewed the websites of AABIE and Rescom and I see hints of deception.
In the line of equipment why are prices so high?
One thing that really stands out is a tool box with a few simple misc. items included for $190.
That is $190, so tell me how you justify this. Can anyone prove that they have been hired by Rescom and been successful? I was told I could start the training on a program called 290 Training Program. The deal was that I am to pay $290 for the training to get my certification. I see no where on the websites of a 4th test. You will use a lot of swabs and things like that and I see they are available for purchase but the products all seem high.

I suspect that is an option that Lauie has chosen! You too can go out and work for other companies. That is precisely what I did and I am happy to have earned my master certification. We have all of our employees going through the AABIE certification program

You have read only what you wanted to read from the previous posts. No wonder you failed 2 tests. But seriously, I think you should at least finish your courses and get your master certification, that way you can put it to good use by getting a job as an inspector somewhere.

After 2 weeks I was informed that I had passed
2 of the three tests the results on the third were not yet scored.
On week 3 I was told that I had failed 2 of the tests and would need to pay $50 to retake the 2 tests.

At this time I asked if the results of the tests would be sent back to me so I could verify that I did In Fact fail the 2 tests. AABIE stated that it is not in their policy to send results of the tests back to the Student.

As noted above on one phone call to the company I had ""Passed"" 2 Tests.

In a second phone call I was told that I ""Failed"" 2 Tests.

Out of 3 Tests, how can you ""Pass"", and ""Fail"" 2 of them.

Im not mad that I failed any tests. If proof would have been provided I would have gladly paid the extra $50 to retake the ""Failed"" test.
However no proof was shown and im not going to pay to retake a test that I know I passed.

If you are taking the ABBIE test, then why are you seeking work from someone outside of RES-COM after passing the tests.

I am a current student and I think AABIE ia a wonderful company. I just signed up in June and I passed my first test. I never had any problems with communication between them and I.

AABIE represtative is hard to get a hold of,but when I did she was very nice. I think John is just upset because he didn't pass his tests. Get over it and retake them. I already got a job lined up when I complete these 2 other courses with a employer in my city. So grow up John and stop putting good companies down and go get a job.

I am sorry that you are dissatisfied with your situation with Res-Com. I have not had any problems myself. Everything was as stated and everything was completed in a timely manner. My recruiter was Chris and he was a very good guy.

As Tom states in his rebuttal to John's report, I had to take the three courses through the AABIE and get my master certification. Then, I started the application process and filled out the application package and interview questionnaire. Next, I went through a separate Res-Com hands-on training DVD (provided to me free of charge) and took the fourth test (also free of charge). Res-Com requires a pass rate of 90% on this test. There is no re-test for this and no fee. If you fail, you don't get a job. Res-Com wants the best of the best for their inspection teams. I am proud to be a Res-Com contractor.

Since I passed my hands-on training DVD, I have been on many jobs and have made a decent living doing inspections.

John, 1 week is an awful short time to finish 3 courses. You should have spent more time on them. But that is just my 2cents.

I am sorry that you have not been able to get a hold of one of the officers of the corporation. Have you tried calling the corporate offices in Sacramento?? or did you call one of your local satellite offices?? The principals of the corporation are always providing oversight and support on inspections and are in developmental meetings to constantly improve the services and provide additional services. It is very rare to get a hold of them. Personally, I have never spoken more than a minute with any officers. I really don't care as long as I keep doing jobs and making money anyway.

I am sorry that you are unhappy but I have not experienced any problems as of yet with this company.

When first getting into contact with RES-COM it was never stated that there was a fourth test. This would leave one to believe that you pay $500 for take the first 3 tests, and upon completion they then state you have to pass this mystery 4th exam.

The original RES-COM employee that I spoke with stated that the entire course generally takes 1-3 weeks to complete.

I did read every mind ripping word in the course even when there were instances of chapters being exactly the same material (word for word). If you take all of the repetitive chapters and eliminated them you would only have about 150 pages per exam.

It would appear that RES-COM/ABBIE only defense of being honest and reputable is to attack my grammar.
There are no noticeable ads for this national company doing work in the area that I live.
Any time you try to contact the owner of the company he is busy doing inspections himself. If RES-COM were so large why would the owner be doing the dirty work?

Res-Com Environmental, Inc. is a professional nationwide scientific consulting firm that specializes in fungal/bacterial investigations in indoor environments. We also perform property inspections and project management/oversight.

We are currently hiring for inspectors and investigators nationwide in order to increase the numbers of our elite cadre of environmental professionals. We do NOT require anyone to be certified through the AABIE. If a prospective candidate is already a certified property inspector and a certified IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) investigator, we welcome them to go to our website: www.rescom.cc and fill out our online application forms and work with the appropriate department's hiring manager.

However, if a prospective candidate is not a certified property inspector and/or an IAQ investigator, we refer our candidates to go get certified through the AABIE (American Association of Building Inspectors & Environmentalists). We do this because the AABIE is the only organization in the country (for-profit or non-profit) that teaches both property inspections AND IAQ investigations.

Res-Com Environmental, Inc's offices are not in the same offices as the AABIE. We do have an AABIE representative that comes into our office at certain times of the week that corrects incoming examinations, takes questions, etc...But we are in no way connected. Res-Com refers uncertified inspectors to them and AABIE refers certified inspectors to us. It is a profeessional working arrangement between the AABIE & Res-Com Environmental, Inc. along with other companies that the AABIE works through. Res-Com is also one of only two companies in the US that is authorized by the AABIE to teach inspections and IAQ investigations for them. Res-Com is not the only company that works through the AABIE.

The AABIE has very demanding course requirements and actually requires a 70% or better for the CRIE course, a 70% or better on the CBIE course, and an 80% or better on the CMIR course in order to receive certification and accreditation. There is also a final test that is administered after the certification process that requires a 90% or better for passing. Also, on the average, it takes the average person approximately 2-3 months to complete a single course. It is no wonder that John failed his tests, he did all of them in a week. This is not the way the AABIE recommends completion of the course work. He does not even accurately know the requirements for passing the exams.

Also, his spelling is quite lacking: "hireing" should be "hiring." Grammar too: "There are three test that need to be passed." That would be "there are three tests that need to be passed" (by the way, there are four).John also writes "All test must be passed with a 70% of higher score." Should be: "All tests must be passed with a score of 70% or higher" (also, the reality is 2@70% or better; 1@80% or better; and 1@90% or better). He then writes: "Once the test are passed the applicant is then offered a job in their local surrounding area inspecting buildings that Res-Com finds." It should read: "Once the tests are passed, the applicant is then offered a job in their local surrounding area inspecting buildings that Res-Com finds" (in actuality, they are not offered any job, they are invited to apply for a position and if their experience and education meet the requirements of Res-Com and they pass the interview process and the thorough and exhaustive background checks, they are then invited to be a part of the inspector cadre of Res-Com Environmental, Inc.

In addition, we do not find buildings, we are hired by clients that contact us to conduct inspections/investigations at their properties). I think I have effectively demonstrated John's lack of attention to detail and impatience just by picking apart his first few sentences. It is this lack of attention to detail and completing an entire curriculum with these kinds of childish mistakes that probably led to his failing the courses. I can understand that he is frustrated but he really needs to take his time, pay attention to details, and retake the exams in order to receive his certification. I doubt that he even read each of the 300 page plus texts that are a part of the coursework for this curriculum of study.

Furthermore, the certification that one receives from the AABIE is good anywhere in the country. As for not being recognized by other organizations, here is the scoop: Other organizations actually have their own courses of study and their own selected companies that administer their courses. Therefore, it is in their interest to not recognize certifications from other certifying bodies. Also, there are no other organizations that can accurately assess the AABIE because there is no other organization such as the AABIE that caters to both property inspectors and IAQ investigators and that regulates both. The AABIE and Res-Com Environmental, Inc. (as a representative school for the AABIE) are also currently in the process of being accredited by the States of California and Texas.

In addition, with the certifications earned through the AABIE, you can start your own business, work for other companies, and/or work for Res-Com Environmental. If you choose to work for others, the AABIE even has job placement assistance for their certified inspectors.

With respect to test results, the AABIE can not release the tests back to the test taker. This is because the tests are the same and are not changed at all. There are no different versions of the tests. Therefore, if we release the tests, there is no guarantee that they will not be posted on the net somewhere or passed around to different people like John's friends or the like. This is the only reason that we can not show the tests to each person taking the test. However, the AABIE's representatives are more than happy to sit down with any person(s) that fail the exams and go over each exam with the individual.

The AABIE is also willing to go over each wrong question via email. Any questions not in the text are also not held against the test taker, we are just evaluating the resourcefullness of each prospective certified inspector. The AABIE wants their certified inspectors to be able to think outside the box and get the job done. The AABIE wants to know, "will the student call in?" "Will he/she/they go to outside resources?" It is only a test of the Resourcefulness of the student, it is not held against them.

Res-Com and the AABIE appreciate all of the positive responses that we have received to our courses of study in the prosperous fields of property inspections and IAQ investigations.
