I made an electronic purchase of a CD Recovery Disk for my computer. The company I ordered it from was RestoreDisks.com Once I received the CD, it would not work in my system. I emailed the company with an explanation and they responded and notified me they would refund my money immediately once the CD was returned. I agreed. The CD was returned via USPS Priority Mail. The package was delivered, as I have a tracking number to prove. I emailed the company - they told me that when they received it, they would immediately issue me a refund. I emailed them back and told them that I had proof of delivery to them. They said once they open the package and process the return, the money would be refunded instantly, expressing that it shouldn't take more than one business day.... I have emailed them since and have not yet heard from them. It seems apparent they are avoiding the issue. I have email text to confirm all my correspondence with this company. Furthermore, the disk I received seemed to be a copy of a manufacturer's disk that was faulty in performance - I didn't know this was going to be an attempted copy, as I didn't think this was legal, but I'm looking into this. By the way, is it legal to be selling copies of manufacturers' computer installation software?

RestoreDisks.com not a Ripoff in my experience

AUTHOR: Rob - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 02, 2015

My experience with RestoreDisks.com was a mixed bag but they were very prompt and professional in all of our business dealings and most certainly not a ripoff.  I ordered a set of recovery disks about 1 month ago for an old HP Pavilion Desktop PC that needed a system restore.  Unfortunately, despite matching the model number exactly with what was on the specs sticker on the side of the tower, the disks would not successfully restore my system.  I sought a local tech with excellent reviews to assist me and he agreed that he could not get the disks to work on my machine (ironically, he ended up successfully restoring my system to factory condition using the set of recovery disks that I had made myself off the hard drive partition as HP instructed me to do.  When they didn't work initially, I assumed they were corrupted which led me to RestoreDisks.com. Ultimately, those original disks are what restored the system, while the RD.com disks were not adequate.)

I phoned RD.com telling them that I was unable to use their disks to restore my system and would be returning them for a refund.  I was met with no resistance whatsoever and was given the RMA number and address they required to process the return.  I mailed it via certified mail return receipt just two days ago (going from California to Georgia).  This morning I received an email from my credit card provider that a merchant credit had been issued from RD.com in the amount expected.  I may not have received the full satisfaction I expected from the product, but with customer service like that, one can hardly paint the company as dishonest or a ripoff.

Now granted, I did not receive a full refund of my purchase price, as the company makes it clear in their policies that a refund will be the full purchase price minus a 20% "restocking fee".  Again, granted a "restocking fee" is kind of ridiculous and only ensures the company will clear something with each purchase, but it hardly constitutes a ripoff when the policy was clearly stated and printed on their materials.

Furthermore, in this case, I exercised extra caution based very much on the complaints I read on this particular site and therefor paid a premium for certified mail return receipt.  In the end, with my mailing costs included, I am only receiving a little more than half my money back for my purchase.  This is why I state openly that my experience is a mixed bag.  Some of the comments state that the disks work fine for them, in other cases, not so well.  For me, I wasn't able to successfully restore my system with their disks and a caution of "caveat emptor" is appropriate.  You can't deal with them without incurring some cost, and there is a risk that their disks may not perform as advertised.  All that said, I can't in good conscience refer to the company as thieves, scam artists, or ripoffs.  They dealt with me directly, promptly, and professionally throughout.  This may not be the most positive review of the company, but it certainly appears they are an honest and legitimate business and worth a try if a full system recovery is your goal and you are having no success with other methods.

OEM software from a bait and switch OS dealer...

AUTHOR: Dissatisfied Customer - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, October 07, 2014

Ignore the other feedback posts. They are damage control plants. I recently purchased a disk to restore a particular old dated computer desktop model and it cost me close to $30. What I received was a CD for a PC series that is supposed to pass for a generic replacement but still does not match what I ordered. Support is no help because this site sells OEM software that does not include the original drivers needed for a full disk recovery to restore your computer. In short, the CDs are incomplete and don't work. Buyer beware!

RestoreDisks.Com was good to me

AUTHOR: Willie - ()

POSTED: Monday, October 28, 2013

I'm a south Georgia (USA) PC tech and I own a 29-year-old custom hand-coded software design business working for small businesses all over the southeastern United States.  With the recession and loss of a lot of business I began to specialize in virus removal about 10 years ago and I've ordered from RestoreDisks.com twice with one of those as recently as April of this (2013) year.

The $27.00 replacement packet of 5 CD's arrived in 2 days.  I confirm what others here said...  that the restore process is  r-e-a-l-l-y  (surprisingly) slow.  This one took the better part of 5 hours.  BUT IT WORKED.

Working out of my home office, my flat fee is $40 (no matter what's wrong) and even with an additional $27 RestoreDisks cost my customer still only paid me $67.00.  And his system was restored to brand new condition.   Wow.

Mom'n'pop computer shops here charge $85.00 an hour (plus parts if they need to call RestoreDisks).  Geek Squad charges $200.  Office Depot ?  $170.00.

My advice to anyone continues to be that RestoreDisks.com is an amazing place that has somehow managed to compile what seems to be every version and iteration of every retail pc ever built.  Now I know that's not true - but it's massive - and I'm grateful they are there.  $27 is nothing.  I don't know them.  I don't have a dog in the fight.

But I know a good thing when I find it.  And after becoming a corporation in 1984 and after building / constructing 1,605 PC's which were installed into 489 small businesses (including all the networking components, including the custom-designed hand-coded network accounting software that ran on these 489 networks) I can tell you that RestoreDisks is the real deal.

Nobody's perfect but I'm sure glad they're there.  And if they ever read this stuff then let me just say THANK YOU to them.  I'd include my name and phone number/email address but RipOff asks us not to.  Again, thank you guys.

PATIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE PLUS TIME

AUTHOR: your enemy - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 21, 2012

MY FRIEND,

I HAVE PURCHASED RESTORE DOSKS FROM RESTOREDISK.COM 5 TIMES. I HAVE BEEN AN ACE PC DIAGNOSTICS/BREAK FIX PC TECHNICIAN.

WHEN ORDING THEY REQUIRE EXACY INFORMATION AND THIC MUST BE RIGHT. WHEN RESTORING A PC IF IT IS A TOWER THAT HAS HAD COMPONANT UP GRADES THIS WILL CONFUST THE RESTORE PROCESS. SO THAT IS ONE THING TO CONSIDER.

ANOTHER THING TO CONSIDER IS: IF IT DOES NOT TAKE AT LEAST 5 HOUSR THEN YOU MAY BE MISSING SOME VITAL PROCESSES. I AM RESTORING AN HP RIGHT NOW, IT FIRST ASKED FOR DISK ONE, THEN IT ASKED FOR DISK TWO, THEN IT ASKED FOR DISK ONE AGAIN AND THUS FAR OVER 3 HOURS HAS ELAPSED WITH 4 TO GO.

SO IF YOU DID THIS PROCESS QUICKLY I CAN TELL YOU AS A PC TECK FROM 1990, CERTIFIED WITH ALL OF THE COMPUTER MANUFACTURERS. RESROREDICKS.COM HAS A PHONE NUMBER AND THEY WILL GUIDE YOU THROUGH THE PROCESS. IF THE DISKS ARE DAMAGED THEY WILL REPLACE THEM FOR FREE.

I CAN TELL YOU IN MY 23 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE RUNNING TO 1000s OF BUSINESSES AND HOUSE HOLDS THAT THE ISSUES I FOUND MOST WAS A CUSTOMERS PATIENCE AND FAILING TO STAY BY THE COMPUTER TO READ THE FINE-IMPORTANT PRINT.

I HAVE HAD TO RELY ON THIS COMPANY MANY TIMES AND IF DONE CORRECTLY, I HAVE "NEVER" HAD AN ISSUE. I WILL GUARANTEE IF YOU SENT ME YOUR UNIT AND THE DISKS I WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. DID YOU EVER UPGRADE ANY COMPONANTS, STAY BY THE UNIT FOR THE RESTORE PROCESS.

I STAND BY THEM AT AGE 53, I FIND PATIENCE AND READING THE DIRECTIONS IS MOST IMPORTANT!

RESPECRFULLY,

RCV

PS: IF IT WAS FOR A COMPANY COMPUTER AND HOOKED UP TO THE NET WORK THE MAIN SERVERS WOULD NOT ALLOW ALL OF THE OPTIONS THAT CAME WITH THE COMPUTER AS THE COMPANY RESTRICTS SO MANY OPTIONS TO PROTECT THEIR INTERESTS. THAT I BELIEVE IS YOUR PROBLEM. SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST TOO QUICK TO POINT A FINGER BEFORE THEY CHECK ALL OF THEIR OPTIONS AND OBSTICLES.

I give Restoredisks.com an A+

AUTHOR: Kevin - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 15, 2012

I've recently ordered a recovery cd from Restoredisks.com for an old Compaq.  I couldn't find this anywhere else.  What really impressed me was that they called me after I submitted my order to get more information on my computer to make sure I got the right cd.

A total of 5 cds came in through the mail.  I was extremely easy to use and my once dead computer is now perfectly alive and well.  It was awesome.  Last time this happened, I paid Geek Squad almost $200.00 to fix it.  Well now, I saved a ton of money thanks to them.  I would definitely refer them to anyone needing a recovery cd.

NOT a Ripoff!!! In My Opinion...

AUTHOR: Daniel H - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, April 08, 2011

Just thought I would post here to let you know I am a consumer who went through this website to purchase a recovery disk for an e-machines computer I have had for quite some time.  I had originally tried to restore the computer back to factory settings but was unable to complete the process due to some files being compressed.  Through research, I discovered my only option was to either use a disk copy of my OS to restore the computer or to use the recovery disks for my computer.  I did not have the recovery disks and so I found this website.  I paid $26.99 for a recovery disk for my computer, the shipping was free, and received the disk today.  I am VERY happy to say that my computer is loading into windows again and working perfectly.  So, I disagree that this site or company is a Ripoff, and I for one, am very pleased with the product I received from them and the outcome of that product.

I was very pleased with RestoreDisks.com

AUTHOR: Mrhemi - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 30, 2009

I recently used restoredisks.com and the restore disks did not work on my pc. After contacting their technical support they were able to help me determine that the hard drive had failed in my pc. Because I called in as instructed on their product directions to confirm the problem I was having, they issued a full refund.

I mentioned the posting on this site and they looked up returns for Las Vegas. The above conplaint has actually received a refund less than 10 days after placing an order.

That's really fast. I would recommend them to other people needing help. Perhaps that is why HP refers them.

I am glad this site lets users post the truth.

Very Satisfied Consumer

AUTHOR: Greg Fultz ( Consumer ) - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, January 29, 2009

Hello My Name is greg fultz and i wanted to share my experience with this company i was skeptical about it at first but my laptop was fried and really don't have any other choice it's either spend 35$ with restoredisk.com or pay dell a fortune just to ask them what to do so i bought the disks for my system and im thrilled im using my laptop to write this comment i wouldn't be able to if it wasn't for the disks that i got from restoredisks.com im very satisified with the delivery time of the product and the product itself It Worked! and saved me alot of money and it was painless to do the restore so i for one will use this company again if i have the need. just a few more comments if a person recieved disks and it didn't work for them it most likely not a problem with the disks they are made for a certain system only and will not work if it's being put on a different system so make sure it's the excact brand and model that you are looking for and don't be surprised if you request a refund and get denied it's software once opened how is the business gonna know that your not just trying to get your money back after the product worked i think it's fair to say that once you open it you own it unless it can be proved that the disk is damaged this is why you must make sure that you are getting the right disk for the right system. But my experience with this company was Flawless! and i'm glad i took the leap of faith to try them out my laptop is good as new!

Answer to your question.

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, May 24, 2008

In Canada and the United States: NO!!!

I would suggest you contact the manufacturer of the computer you have. This way you will obtain the recovery CDs and the DRIVERS for the actual hardware configuration of your machine. They may not do this for free, but at least you'll get the correct programs and drivers.

Most of the larger OEMs will accommodate your request but there is usually a fee of between $15 and $30 bucks for the OEM recovery CDs. If you wish the OEM software installation CDs for the bundled programs the fee is substantially higher.

Good luck.
