Technology Contractors / Rich McGrath was hired to do extensive work on our home, after hurricane IKE.The services he contracted for were

1.Roof 2. Electrical Service 3. Privacy Fence 4.Air Conditioning 5.Plumbing 6.Interior Painting 7.Kitchen & bath remodel 8.Flooring

He was made aware he had to have licensed contractors and Ins.He did provide a certificate of Ins, *but we were sent a cancellation notice 1 mo. later. The roof & electrical were completed. He then began the plumbing phase. He broke out the slab and totally gutted one bath. He then collected 1/2 deposit on each of the remaining jobs he was hired to do,and disappeared. We could not get him to return any calls. One month later our power began shutting down and my cable line burned out. I called our cable provider and they advised we have the electical inspected, as this was what burnt out their line. I called a local contractor, who came out and found that our service was seriously dangerous. We had to totally redo the electrical service. I had another a/c contractor out and found that we did not need a new unit, they had wired it backwards. The gutted bath is still waiting to be put back together.

So again you state "His sons". No it was 1 of his sons, Nick and yes he was taken advantage of by his Dad. The facts are that yes, Nick did help his Dad out on a few jobs. Nick had no idea of what the business was or did he have any part of the contract. For whatever reason Rick had the check made out to Nick, but that does not mean Nick was involved with the contract of what work was to be done or how much the contract was for.
I am sorry that happened to you, but please refrain from using "His sons" in any of your reports. I know what it may seem to appear to you, but I was trying to make things clear and assure you that Nick or any other sons had nothing to do with the contract or verbal agreement that happened between you and Rick.
Thank you for you reply

Reply to rebuttal of sons involvement & additional damages discovered

AUTHOR: Wayshuh - (United States of America)

In response to the rebuttal of my original report, I only stated facts, and certainly did not intend to be unfair to anyone involved. Facts are, his sons worked on my home over an extended period of time. I have no idea of what their involvement in the business is, but I do have several large checks that were made out to Nick McGrath, and were cashed personally by him. If he was unaware of his fathers unethical practices, I would definitely suggest he take steps to protect himself legally, because these checks all contain his signature and drivers license on the endorsement. If he would like copies of them, I will be happy to provide them.

In addition to the original damages I noted in my report, we have now discovered

1.A cracked slab, due to the bathroom demo & their attempt to do plumbing repairs under the slab.

2.A roof that we will have to completely re-do. I mistakenly thought the roof was acceptable. I was very wrong. We paid approximately $9,000.00 for the roof, was given a guarantee and told we would have a windstorm certification. We never received our certification. Recently we discovered serious roof leaks that damaged interior ceilings and walls. I called a roofer to do these repairs , and asked if he would be able to get our windstorm certification that is required by our insurance company. He advised me that the entire roof would have to be re done.  Texas Windstorm requires double felting , with a minimum overhang *(not sure of the exact amount of overhang) . There is only 1 layer of felt and no overhang at all, so the complete roof will have to be removed and redone to pass certification.

I stand by my original reports, and offer apologies to anyone that was unjustly accused, but these are all simple facts.

I would like to say that it is not fair of you to use Nick McGrath in your report. This is one of my sons and yes Rick McGrath is my ex husband.
I assure you that his children had nothing to do with his business. His son's have/had no part of the business and do not support their Dad in his work.
Nick may have at one time helped his Dad on a few jobs, only because he was trying to do work and earn an honest days work.
All 3 of his boys have their own jobs and are very hard workers.  Please do not use the children in your reports. The only fault of theirs is being Rick's son. You can not hold that against them.
Feel free to contact me if I can answer any questions you may have
