Rickenbacker Collection Agency DMV scam. Saying I was "last person", on DMV records of a towed/sold vehicle Morgan Hill California

I have perfect credit. I received a letter saying that a Towing Co, Sierra Towing had taken in my vehicle and that I owed 2400.00 for towing, storage, and fees.

There was no vin or lic plate number on the letter, but "GMC Jimmy, 1994". I called. It was on a car that I had FILED a lien release on, in Arizona soon after I moved there from Ca and registered car there. I spent 2 1/2 hours on phone and internet with AZ MVD getting proof i HAD filed "sold notice " (like lien release in CA). I sent and faxed it to them, thinking all was good.

They sent me a letter, and phoned me that that didn't PROVE I filed the form, even though codes and dates on the forms clearly showed I did. I wasn't at home with the paperwork, so I called them later. I went to CA and spent 3 hours at the DMV getting proof that I was just ONE owner on record and that the car was NOT registered in my name. That a "SOLD" notice had been filed.

I called with the new info. The agent, "Amanda" told me this happens a lot. I must have filled in MY name in the wrong spot of the AZ Sold Notice, as i was still a "person of interest" (sounds like Cold Case files Tv show) and that I can send in the money, and sue the person I sold the GMC to. She had the current registered owner's name on file, yet is filing on me. She said that the Sacramento DMV request for vehicle information will NOT suffice. They KNOW the car is not registered to me. I had proof I filed the sold notice. Proof I moved to AZ, and reg car there, yet the GMC has ca plates and is reg to someone else, and they are holding me responsible for the "bill".

Because each person I spoke to was more and more unreasonable, and let me KNOW they had the info that the car was not registered to me , I looked online for their name and found the SAME scam was done to others by Rickenbacker AND other collection agencies. I will have to do what others have done, and write them to validate their debt,call the attorney general's office in Morgan Hill and fight to keep this OFF my credit report.

Just another scam they can get away with...as those "sold notices' are online in AZ and available easily and quickly as well as the vehicle registration report. They pretend they can't read AZ forms, and now they admit it is reg to someone ELSE in CA and I am still "on the hook" because I didn't fill my form out right. NONSENSE>

These folks need BBB, Consumer Reports, Atty General's office and the Federal Trade Commission to go after them, and to be sued in a class action suit for millions of dollars by us victims to end this practice. The stress from dealing with them is enough to send some over the edge.
