I purchased a 2009 Hyundai Accent about three weeks ago from Right Way Auto.  I told the sales guy, Jason Gross, that I could not afford payments more than $200 a month and that I was looking for something safe to drive in the winter, and $10,000 or less.  After running my information, Jason told me that I needed a co-signer.  My mom was with me and co-signed for me.  She was in a hurry and had to go so Jason drew up the paperwork and had her sign it really fast; assuring me that he would go over it all with me after he got my mom out of there so she could make it to work on time.

After she signed the contracts and left, Jason informed me that the total price of the vehicle would be $13,500 and my payments were going to be $194 bi-weekly.  Not only is $13,500 a few grand over my budget, but it’s also almost 3 times as much as the Kelly Blue Book value!  The bi-weekly payments were what I could afford monthly, and I voiced my concerns to Jason.  It was at that point that he informed me that although my mom was supposed to be my COSIGNER that my name wasn't even on the vehicle- very disappointing because the big sales push was that even though I’d be paying a little more, it would be fixing my credit.  Jason used the information I had given him about the difficult time I was having to prey on me and push the deal through.  I was desperate to have transportation, he knew it, and took full advantage of me.

I told Jason about the dash lights that were on and he assured me that "if anything happened it would be covered under the warranty, but it should be fine because it just underwent a ‘very thorough’ inspection."  He even refused to put gas in the car even though the gauge read below empty.  He said that “normally they would” but their accounts payables department dropped the ball and didn’t pay their gas card bill so they had “no way” to put gas in the car.  “Yeah, sorry about that.”  I barely made it to the gas station across the street.

Today, about three weeks later, the car wouldn't start.  I was on the phone with the dealership because I wasn't given an owner's manual and the battery posts are not clearly marked "positive" and "negative."  After talking to me like I was a complete moron, Jason insisted that I hook up the cables to the other car and touch the other ends of the jumper cables to my battery to see if it "sparks like crazy."  He said if it “sparks like crazy” then that is backwards and I have to connect the cables to the opposite posts.

When I touched the cables to the battery posts, it sparked like crazy; so I switched the posts, and it still sparked like crazy. He told me that I just wasn't leaving it on there long enough, that I have to let it sit on there for a few seconds, so I tried again.  Eventually it stopped sparking and I connected the cables to the posts.  They started smoking a little bit, and I told Jason about it.  Jason insisted that it was OK and that I just needed to "hurry up and start my car."  I tried to start my car and it wouldn't turn on.  My daughter started screaming that it was smoking really badly.  I jumped out and looked and the jumper cables were melting!

The ones hooked to my friend's van and the ones hooked to my car were smoking.  I yelled to my daughter to turn off the van, and she did.  I couldn’t even remove the cables because they were so hot.  I asked Jason if he was going to fix it now, and replace the jumper cables and fix my friend's van, if there was damage.  He told me he "wasn't at liberty to discuss that with me because it would have to go through his boss." I asked him what I was supposed to do and he told me that my car was under warranty so I should call road side assist.

After a big event with calling them I found out that Jason never submitted my paperwork for my warranty, so I would not be able to get the car towed.  I called the dealership back and got the run around from them.  Jason told me to hold on and he would find out what happened.  After about 5 minutes he came back on the line and assured me he was working on it and told me not to hang up.  I sat on hold for another 10 minutes before I was hung up on.  Things went this way, me calling, being put on hold, or hung up on, or promised to get a call back that didn’t come.  After three hours I finally called the corporate line to get some help.  They contacted the dealership and admitted it was because Jason had dropped the ball on the paperwork.  The car eventually was towed and I have to call tomorrow to follow up on what happens next.

I DO NOT want to continue to do business with this company; however, I know that I have a contract that protects them from me (well, technically my mom) defaulting on the agreement.  I haven’t even had this car 30 days and it’s already in the shop, have had my life and my daughter’s life put at risk, and experienced the worst customer service of my life.  I wonder if there is anything I can do?!?!  No matter what the outcome, there is NOTHING they can do to make up for what I went through.

This entire company is based off of preying on people in my situation.  Desperate for a car to get to and from work, to take their children to school, go grocery shopping for their families… etc.  It is absolutely disgusting that a place like this with shoddy policies, shady sales approach, and a predatory marketing would even be in business.  Jason manipulated the situation and my emotions to make a sale, and now I’m suffering the consequences.

Oh, and by the way, I forgot to mention that the 2009 vehicle he sold me for nearly three times the legitimate value had 177,200 miles on it. The sales guys boast about the “values” and “dedication to the customers” that the owner has, whichi is why they specialize in bad credit loans.  “To help the poor-man out.”  Out of what?  The only thing I see them doing is helping me get my first repossession or electrocution.
