I got my 'mini' Blue heeler puppy in August from Rightway Ranch located in Eastern Oregon in August. I am now convinced they are a puppy mill. There is a Facebook page called "Rightway Ranch, Right Way Ranch Heeler Owners" where other owners share the same opinion.

Their website has many puppies on it, but didn't think too much of it at the time. They also weren't keen to me coming out and seeing the ranch. They offered to meet me at a half way point, which I figured was them just being nice. Looking back both these things show they are a puppy mill.

When I met my puppy he came out of a dirty van and smelled strongly of manure. He was shivering in the man's arms who was wiping off buggers from his eyes. When he was placed in my arms he clung to me and buried his head. The image of his terror will forever me in my mind. They didn't have me sign a breeding contract, and informed me when I got him that he had not received any of his shots yet.

We believe he was given some drug to calm him down for the drive by the breeders. He was tired the whole first day, and didn't pee or poop or eat for the entire first 13 hours we had him when he was only 10 weeks old. He acted like he had never seen grass or the outside at all and would stand paralyzed with fear when we set him down on it. We planned on crate training him but he acted like the crate was the most scary thing in the world.

He was afraid of everything, new people, cars driving by, other animals, even out neighbors moving around. He would just sit quietly most of the time and shake with fear unless we held him in our arms. When ever we would take him outside he wouldn't use the bathroom and instead just try to jump into our arms and cry out of fear. This went on for about a month after we got him.

He progressively gained more confidence after we worked with him a lot. He is a lot better, but still reacts very negatively whenever we see other people or dogs. He is scared and reacts aggressively. He doesn't have any social skills with other dogs at all and doesn't know how to interact with them even after extensive exposure. He is highly bonded with us and loves to snuggle and play though.

I believe Rightway Ranch is not interacting with the puppies they are breeding. They are making far too many litters at a time and not giving them and human or outside interactions. They may even be keeping the puppies in cages and not with their moms and other puppies since he has no social skills with other dogs.

I wouldn't recommend buying a dog from Rightway Ranch. They do not treat their dogs correctly and you will be supporting a puppy mill

RightWay Ranch IS A PUPPY MILL

AUTHOR: Beth - (United States)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 08, 2018

First of all I will say that I have a RightWay dog.  She was purchased before I knew about the circumstances regarding RWR.  My dog not only has health issues but I am also convinced she lived her first 4 months in a cage.  The drive home from meeting Cheer in town was the first and last time I have been able to hold my dog.  After the drive and several hours she came out of her stupor which I am convinced was person induced.  I have never seen a puppy panic so badly when attemtpted at being held.  We have had a long road with issues but just because I made a mistake doesn't mean my dog is going to pay for it.  Since rescuing our Joey from Rightway (2013) I have been involved in herding dog rescue, specifically heelers.  I can;t tell you how many RightWay dogs are given up on, have extreme social problems and have health issues.

I don;t doubt with the amount of breeding that she does that there are some pups that are fine but that is not the majority.  All one has to do is look at her website and see the amount of pups that she has to know that something isn;t right.  She delivers her puppies in a filthy goat crate covered with feces.  If she wasn;t a puppy mill why won't you to meet the parents or see her facilities?  She has been skirting the law for many years.  Since bringing Joey home and all things things have come to light it is my mission to spread the word far and wide.  The FB group was started after a conversation with another RWR owner that didn;t know the circumstances either.  Joey's story was pinned at the top of the post in the beginning.

When they members started talking about breeding to others dogs I spoke up and eventually left/blocked because i couldn;t tolerate the RWR owners page to become something positive when the original purpose was to inform people.  If Cheer is a upright breeder why is she not AKC?  Why doesn't she do health testing?  I have followed a few of her breeding pair and she is breeding each b***h far too many times.  You can disagree becuse you have gotten a great dog from her, that is you perogitive.  I just suggest you spend some time in the Blue Heeler rehoming world to know that RWR is NOT reputable.  I will go to my grave shouting out and sharing our story.....even if it prevents one person from purchasing from RWR.

Thanks for your response. I am happy with my dog, but am sure he was not given adequate attention before he came to us, and that Cheer wasn't using approriate breeding practices.

You should join the Rightway Ranch Heeler owners group here. facebook.com/groups/233435450399676/

There is a mix of positive experiences like yours and many like mine with dogs with weird behaviors, that appear to have been neglected or mistreated. We welcome positive stories on there as well!!

My pups!

AUTHOR: cindy - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 31, 2017

I have gotten two pups from rightwayranch.  Let me tell you, the seller has always been amazing with knowledge about the pups.  I got my first one over 4 years ago and it is by far the best dog I have ever owned!!  So much so, we got another pup 3 months ago.  This pup is as amazing as our first one.

Just for the sake of knowledge to the party complaining about the pups.  We had to stop and see a vet for car sickness for one of the pups and the vet gave us meds to get our puppy home.  There is nothing wrong with a puppy needing motion sickness medication.  The vet said it was better for the dog then being car sick all the way home.

I also have rescued dogs and don't think there is anything wrong with buying a puppy from time to time.  I hope you find your puppy to be as incredible as ours have been.  I still contact Cher from Rightwayranch just to get updates on new pups and tell her how happy we are with ours!

Great Dogs from Conscience Breeder

AUTHOR: Peg Phillips - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, May 15, 2017

I must admit that the above report was a surprise to me. Over the past two years we have obtained three  puppies from Rightway Ranch and have had numerouse  Conversations with the breeder.  Since we had not had any experience with Austrailian Cattle Dogs it was importnt to me to be able to communicate directly with the breeder.  We have had numerous dogs over the years, but none as smart, active,  and healthy as these.   Ours are beautiful dogs, the fact that they are raised out in the, hills of eastern Oregon, does not matter.  I found Cheer to be very helpful and conscience about the care and nutrition of her puppies.

With very detailed instructions as to their care and especially their vaacinations.   As I said we have three dogs now, all are healthy, very active and I have their pedigree.  I would go back to cheer in a heartbeat to get another pup.  Cattledogs are an interesting breed.... not your typical designer  AKC  dog even though the AKC recognizes them,  I personally  don't care about the akc.....they have ruined many a breed attempting to make standards that are unhealthuy and detrimental to the well being of the very dogs that their breeders  are marketing.

Could be that her pup was just more timid, our dogs were a little shy at first.  But these are a different type of dog.  They arent little foo foos, they are working dogs and not bred to fit a mold of what is acceptable to the AKC. Each one of ours has a different personality.....much like children.  We love them all, for different reasons, and appreciate the fact that they have not been overly  inbred.

Just a thought because we deal with these breeders as their transporters

AUTHOR: Jules - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, May 07, 2017

I have no idea if they are any type of mill or not but, having a lot of dogs doesn't necessarily mean they are a mill.  My son is the owner/operator of Nitro Express Transport and has transported quite a few of their puppies of various size (minis and full size).  My husband and I have also had the opportunity to do so.  The pups we have seen all seem to be in good health, good spirits and happy, considering it is their first time in a car and it is typically a long ride.  They tend to be a little timid at first (who could blame them) because it is a strange place, strange people, car rumbling, long ride, potentially, getting left behind after others are dropped off or visa versa.  It can be stressful for any pup.  But, the customers I keep in contact with to ensure they are happy with our service as the transporter and many have repeated business with us, have always been happy with their choice of breeder.  I understand your concern, if when you receive your pup, its dirty or just not what you would expect.  The smell of urine and/or feces is probably just that.  They sit in a crate most likely with other puppies for however long it takes to deliver them.  Of course, they are going to pee and poop and sometimes on each other.  They may also get food in their hair.  They aren't great at manners yet and it may be a bumpy ride at that partiular time.  Puppies without shots are not allowed out of the transport vehicle until they are handed to their new owners.  That is a USDA regulation that is pretty strictly followed - always followed by us.  It is for the health and safety of the puppy.  However, when we transport, we always go the extra mile and give every puppy a nice warm bath before delivery so that you dont have to meet your new best friend with feces in his hair or goop in his eyes.  So, next time, call us!  We'll bring you a nice clean one, sometimes even wrapped in a little sweater, if it is cold out.  :)
