On September 14, 2001 I attended a Goen Seminar in Wilkes-Barre PA. The seminar was a hypnosis seminar intended to make me stop smoking. It did not work. I still smoke 1-1 1/2 packs of cigarettes a day.
I foolishly purchased $279.95 of their supporting minerals. These minerals were supposed to help my cravings for cigarettes and curb my appetite as well as repair my lungs. How stupid could I have been. I purchased 4 bottles each of Cigsation ( to curb cravings ), Lungevity ( to repair my lungs ), Trim Spa ( body shaping formula ), and Lipo Spa ( a fat attracting agent ), for a total of 12 bottles.
When I got home that day and read the ingredients of these pills I did not want to take them. Within 30 days I returned 11 of the 12 bottles that I had come home with, I had opened 1 bottle and therefore did not return it.
In the fine print of the paperwork that I signed, it states that if for any reason I am dissatisfied with their product I can return the unopened bottles within 30 days for credit on any other stocked products. I do not want any of their products, I don't even knoe what else they sell, since I beleive that their products contain ingredients that may harm me.
Is there any other recourse that I can take?

Hypnosis
Sounds as though the hypnotist DID have an effect on you. Not to quit smoking but to purchase thier wonderful products.
Look at these words... You are getting sleepy...sleepy...reach deep in to your purse and send me five dollars...You WANT to send me five dollars...In fact, you will be thrilled to send me money because it IS the thing you truly want to do...
Goen helped me
Almost three years ago I went to a Goen seminar. The only thing I was separated from was CIGARETTES. It was the best day of my life. There was no requirement to purchase their products. I understand how you must feel cheated because you spent so much, although it was refunded, but how have you cheated yourself and those around you to have not tried to quit smoking and save yourself. To die of smoking related illnesses is an ugly and painful way to die. No glamour there. Instead of being mad at Goen for trying to help you with a new method to quit, be mad at yourself for not trying.

proud to say that IT DOES WORK
I went to a goen seminar to quit smoking on October 8, 2001 and I am proud to say that IT DOES WORK. I however could not afford to buy all the helpful pills and didn't really want to. I did it with the tape they gave me and the booklet to follow for 16 days straight. It's been 1 year and 4 months and I do not have cravings, and people smoke in front of me and I feel as if I've never smoked at all. I smoked from the day I was 18 years old and could never quit that was 30 years ago. Like I said before I'M PROUD OF MYSELF AND GREATFUL TO GOEN. p.s. I also would like to add saving the cig money I was able to buy myself a JEEP that I've been wanting for a long time..
Seminar ads are misleading at best
I attended the Goen smoking cessation seminar last night. I felt their ad was very misleading. I paid $60 to hear a 3 1/2 hour infomercial on their supplements. I did have my money refunded, but they cannot refund my time or my hope.
If they truly believe in their methods they should have no problem saying in their ads that their method recommends the use of supplements, (all of which you are told at the seminar are not readily available except through them.)
The fact supplements are not mentioned until you have paid your $60 and are well into the seminar tells me they know they are doing something wrong! I believe many people try hypnosis because they are interested quitting naturally, without drugs or supplements,especially those which might be dangerous.
Since our seminar leader never mentioned it, let me say PLEASE talk to your doctor before you take these supplements!
Chitosan has been in the news, there are concerns over its safety.
To Margaret, try the Better Business Bureau, I plan to.
If they cannot help, perhaps they can point us in the right direction. I also plan to call the AMA and find out if anyone regulates these people. Do your homework and find a seminar that doesn't try to sell you anything, I know they exist because I have had family experience success with other programs.
Good Luck, and shame on anyone who puts you down for trying and not succeeding. You should be proud of your efforts, and your desire to help others .
I had awesome results with weight loss
I have to say that I went to a Goen seminar last year. I did buy the supplements as well. I lost 22 pounds so far. It's not the 35lbs I was hoping for, but 22 is wonderful too.
It worked for this skeptic!!
I went to the Goen seminar to quit smoking in Feb 2002 and brought my son along too. I haven't touched a cigarette since then-and we're talking a 30 yr. habit! I decided to buy a couple of the herbs suggested but was able to get them cheaper at my local health food store. I believe they really helped plus what they said at the seminar just made sense. I'm still amazed that it worked for me and that I lost the 'wheeze'. It didn't, however work for my son who thought they were in it for the supplement business. So, you decide--who came out ahead?
If those people who felt ripped off have saved their brochures they can try to quit again for free as the company promises or they'll give you your money back.

Hello, My name is Bob and I am a former Hypnotist
for GOEN Seminars and I just have to say 'YOU Have to want it!' If you come to a smoking seminar because you were dragged in by your spouse, It is not going to work! Most smokers who come to seminar like to smoke, BUT they know they need to stop.
If you Go willing and with the ability to follow
directions..you are a non smoker! These folks are
trying to help YOU! It's not magic, If you smoked
15, 25,50 years, in 2-3 hours many folks are done
if they follow directions and simple education, and if for some reason it doesn't Work the first time (think about it, YOU smoked XYZ amount of years) for whatever reason, You get to come back to any SEMINAR for free!
Ive had people struggle a little for a day then come to a seminar during the same
week we were in town, and CRUSH the problem.
Oh and about the supplements, They are absolutely optional! Nutrition is vital(Especially for SMOKERS) , as explained during the seminar, most people are pleased that we offer that kind of service, instead of sending
people out trying to find what will probably be
inferior quality nutrients! BE SMART. You pay $60
to stop smoking, with the very good opportunity to leave a nonsmoker(how much do you spend on smokes killing yourself and hurting your family each day!!
There is a minority of people who are agitated
that we offer supplements at the seminar. These
folks should be mad at the Gas stations and stores that sell the one thing that is taking their money and health!
As for me I am Brain Cancer survivor 1999, and a
former Police Detective and Certified DARE officer I can tell you that as a former Hypnotist for GOEN seminars. I have a family, and I took alot of time away from home travelling the country with seminars and I chose to give it up in order to be a better dad and husband. NEVER GIVE UP! They are there to
help, give it a SERIOUS SHOT, and don't be so quick to have all the answers! (misery loves company) do not fall for that weak mentality! Don't wait to get CANCER, you will remember you had a chance to to participate in a SEMINAR that may have saved you Life. Keep fighting!

My brother and I, both long time smokers, attended the Goen Seminar and we both quit. I used the herbs but he didn't and we are both nonsmokers since May 2002. We both went in skeptics and came out believers. I honestly thought I could not be hypnotised. Nobody pressured us to buy the herbs. I believe that you do have to want to quit in order for it to work.
It works BUT!
For myself it did work for about two weeks. I then returned to smoking, but I felt my best in just those two weeks. I think I have the receipt but can't find another seminar in my area to go and try it again. Can any one help?

I have posted before that this Goen Seminars really worked for me. I found that I need a refresher once a year or I gain weight. So, I called the 1-800-SLIM-NOW phone number and the recording stated that they are out of business now. However, they worked out a deal with the other leading hypnosis seminar place called Gorayeb Seminars. Any Goen Seminar person can bring their Goen booklet for a free refresher at a Gorayeb Seminar. Today is my 2 year anniversary as a non-smoker- it worked for me
I attended a goen seminar 2 years ago today. 2 pack a day smoker, 26 years. i didn't really want to quit, but their ad got me in the door. yes, i was a little put off by the pitch for additional supplements, but i bit the bullet and bought them.
i am today celebrating 2 years without the habit and the ugly side affects which i lived with for so many years. i am grateful that it worked, and want to share it with anyone who's interested in hearing.
i truly believe that if this program worked for me, it could work for anyone. too bad they are apparently not in business anymore. i think they did a wonderful job, and i offer my thanks.
Goen Hypnosis is effective
I attended a Goen weight loss seminar and am happy to say that the hypnosis was effective. I did not buy any of the products offered, and the seminar speaker was not pushy about buying them.
Unfortunately, some people do not respond to hypnosis. Hypnosis is not mind control. It requires the desire to change. I know a person for whom the hypnosis did not work. She at first was negative about the hypnosis itself, but now admits that she just 'wasn't ready to lose the weight.' My mom and one of my best friends are also Goen success stories.
It is important to follow the instructions as well (such as listening to the reinforcement tape for the full 21 days).
In my opinion, most people who have a bad experience with Goen either were resistant to the hypnosis or experienced a seminar speaker who WAS pushy and manipulative about the products.
It worked for me
I wanted to quit.After years of stopping and starting again I finally found the right crutch to lean on.I bought nothing,momma didnt raise no dummy.
