Pets Plus sold me an Italian Greyhound, Casey, on August 11, 2006 and two days later she sounded like she was going to choke up her lungs. She was sooooo SICK!

I took her back to Pets Plus that Monday morning and they gave her a nebulizer treatment and a medicine called, 'Primor,' which they had switched her to because when she first was sent there by the breeder in Ohio, she was already on 'Clavamox,' HINT, HINT, HINT!!!

I gave her 2 doses of that pill per day for 10 days which felt like forever for both of us because she hated a pill being stuffed down her throat and I hated doing it.

Once again, I went back to Pets Plus because I was out of medicine and she hadn't improved with her condition of 'Kennel Cough,' which their vet diagnosed her with 2 times.

On Monday, August 28th, 2006, I took Casey to MY vet (It was the soonest they could get me in) and they put her back on 'Clavamox' and sent me home with cough tablets as well.

That Wednesday, noticing that Casey was slowly, but surely getting WORSE in her condition, I made an emergency appointment for my vet to see her once again. This time, they took x-rays and determined that my puppy who has only been in this world since May 28th,2006, has a severe case of pnemonia.

They referred me to VSDS of Jackson, New Jersey, where she has been since Wednesday, August 30th, as I am writing this report on September 2,2006.

None of this would have happened if PETS PLUS would just sell HEALTHY puppies. It seems like because they already got the money in the cash register and their pay for the week that they sold Casey to me, they have no compassion, not for me, but for CASEY.

I am in the process now of filing a lawsuit against PETS PLUS OF DELRAN, NEW JERSEY.

Reimbursement Dept and Vet Tech

In response to Ashley's complaint I feel she has been irrisponsible with the care the puppy needed. By New Jersey Puppy law a customer has 14 days to make a veterinarian appointment and she failed to do so. If she knew the puppy developed a cough within 2 days of buying the puppy she shold have taken our advice in the first place and took the puppy right to the vet. Any reasonable vet would have seen the dog immediatley. As far as our vet diagnosing the dog twice with Kennel Cough, that is a complete fabrication and our vet passed this puppy as FIT FOR SALE!

When she brought the dog to us we felt the best thing to do for the puppy was nebulize it since she was not going to take the dog to the vet. The reason we strongly suggest to take the animal to the vet within 14 days is so that if it has an illness it can be treated right away. As an owner of any animal knowing the puppy is coughing and not feeling well why would anyone wait almost 3 weeks??? Our puppies are hand picked from private breeders and we have absolutley no problem in reimbursing a customer up to twice the purchase price of the puppy if need be as long as they also follow the NJ Law guidlines adn take the puppy to the vet in a timely manner. As far as filing a lawsuit against us I would be happy to forward that on to our attorneys. Unfortunatley for you the NJ law is the law and we have firmly abided by that law.

Irresponsible customer

By the information shown on the report, Pets Plus followed the law, being a puppy owner I would have immediately took my NEW puppy to the vet if I noticed it was sick, knowing that all of your money would be reimbursed, as stated in the NJ Law.

I too had a puppy with kennel cough, but I was responsible enough to take my puppy to the vet and he is fine now, because kennel cough is nothing serious, and can be avoided if you're responsible enough to do what you're supposed to do.

So good luck with your lawsuit because they did nothing illegal. I feel bad for your puppy, you're obviously not fit to be a pet-owner if you cannot handle kennel cough, it's only a cold like children would get at a daycare.

Next time, if you are still planning on getting a dog, do your research and learn about dogs and their illnesses because again, kennel cough is NOT that serious unless you're incompetent and irresoponsible and you let your dog catch pneumonia.

Sincerely,
A concerned dog breeder

Pets Plus Buys Dogs from PUPPY MILLS

I find it amazing that a Pets Plus employee would state that their dogs are 'hand picked' from breeders.

Pets Plus was sued in 2002 on the televised Peoples Court in which it was revealed that dogs were purchased from the Conondoguinet Creek Kennel - currently licensed as a K5 (the largest allowed in the State) puppy mill located in Newburg, PA.

At the time, neither the kennel nor the broker were licensed to be selling dogs to pet stores and the 'kennel' had recent been inspected by the PA Dept. of Agriculture and issued violations.

Pets Plus was found guilty of violating PA law by not providing 'papers' within the time frame prescribed by law. Initially, Pets Plus had REFUSED to provide the owner with any information regarding the breeder even though their veterinarian, treating the dog for an unknown illness that caused the pup to stop breathing, had requested it.

The situation escalated when conflicting information about the puppy was presented to the consumer. Two different sets of parents, two different birth/litter locations and two entirely different birth dates were provided. Who knows where this dog really came from?

Documentation of the above may be found in the online archives of The Morning Call Newspaper and date back to 2001.

Shame on Pets Plus for profiting from the misery of the dogs in the puppy mills and then top it off by having the audacity to LIE about doing so.

Pets stores represent the final link in the despicable puppy mill chain. Don't BUY love, ADOPT it!!

Thank You
