Daytona Beach, FloridaMe and my husband had just arrived from our 26 hrs flight from overseas. This is not our first time in this country. So, thank God we know how car rental works in this country. I was going round the car rental counters asking for the lowest rate. The Dollar guy gave me the best rate of US21.99 per day for a full size or larger (at compact car rate). Since we need extra driver and insurance so there's going to be extra charges. Which we were ok with.
Then when me and my husband agreed to get a full size car, the guy who was previously giving us the offer was busy attending to a phone call. So he got another guy to do it (who was not in his uniform and doesn't look like he works there). So the guy printed out our invoice. He was mumbling saying this fees is this much for what and sign... so I signed because I still could understand what he was mumbling about. Then he went on to the next column saying that this is how much they're going to reserve my credit card for security. Then he asked me to sign. So everything was settled. Our total should be around US$70++. So I thought. We were suppose to return the car to Daytona airport in 2 days.
At Daytona airport, when I was abt to make payment. I was told that the total was US$190++. Sooooo much more than I expected. Then the guy at the counter pointed on the invoice that this column is for this and that and the next column is for this and that. Our total is shown on the column the previous guy at Orlando airport said the amount they we're going to reserve on my credit card. It's a whole different story now. So I asked the guy at the Daytona Airport to clarify for me. He called Dollar office and they were willing to go by the rate I was quoted.
What a relief. Then I wanted to pay by cash. Unfortunately, during the commotion we had abt the total, their computer systems was down. So I have to wait for almost an hour to make payment but in the end has to use my credit card anyway because the system never came back-up. Double whammy for me. Misquoted and had to charge to my credit card which I didn't even want to use at all from the beginning except to reserve the security deposit. On top of that, I had to pay for 1 extra day because they never state anywhere or verbally told me that there is no grace period after the 24 hr period dues.
So, people, please be careful with Dollar Rent-A-Car employees. They can say something now and a different thing the next day.
