Moved to this one horse town from a three horse town in Indiana, and all of the services are apparently designed to keep the poor poor and struggling to survive from day to day.  A "convenience fee" is charged for using your credit/debit card to pay for basic services like rent, light, gas and water but if you don't have a car you can only mail a check, but everyone has gone paperless so you are stuck paying the fee since you don't have checks to use.

Now we come to the communications services, which Ritter has the only game in town unfortunately.   I wish I could have stayed with Time Warner Cable, at least they were consistent and gave the cable strength as promised with very few ?outages even during inclement weather.

The BUNDLE is somehow required for cable and internet, and everyone at Ritter tells you to simply not hook up your telephone!!  Yet they charge you $6 a month for a landline that you don't use and $68 for cable and internet "bundle" that is spotty at best during good weather, and truly ancient programming...I like "The Matrix" but don't want to see it EVERY week and "Friday the 13th" marathon repeatedly?!?!....sheesh, give me a break; I didn't watch that crap when it was NEW!!

I have been subjected to this cramming of my bill since July, 2015 and when VONAGE started offering their service for $9.99, I decided that I could save $50 by switching from WalMart Straight Talk to Vonage (I'll have to file another report about that bunch of scammers!)  So I call Ritter Communications to tell them to port the phone number to Vonage since I wasn't using the land line anyway, and they tell me that it was a breach of contract even though I never asked for the phone line and don't use it anyway.  So I just let it go, but I just received my October, 2015 BUNDLE bill and now it is $131 as a punitive measure, even though they still have the $6 charge for the unused landline included in the bill!!.

I emailed the FCC and the FTC about this bill cramming practice by Ritter Communications on Friday, September 25, 2015 and while I know it won't do a bit of good in Ritter's "creative financial practices" this monopoly needs to be put on notice that they really are a RIP OFF!!  They won't get any competition unfortunately, because DISH and A T & T are busy marking their own territory to be bothered by these scam artists, but that is the best I could do.

Ritter Continues to Increase Monthly Payments!

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, October 28, 2015

"....Your carrier has provided the FCC with a response to your complaint...."

Hello FCC,
The only "response" I have gotten from Ritter Cable is to raise my monthly bill to $160.74 on 10-25-15 AND to ?interrupt the signal to the local NBC affiliate for a week, starting October 1-8 and was only restored after a Ritter Tech came to stop service for the neighbor in 109 next door.  Internet AND cable service are spotty at times and I get a "No Signal" message on the TV set when changing channels and the weather is clear, no electrical outages from rain but it is a buried cable line anyway so I am at a lost to explain it....rural area or not.

Now this increase in charges is because I mentioned the telephone line which their agent, Samantha, as well as the Installation Tech both told me the BUNDLE was required to keep down the cost..."just don't plug in the telephone line."  When I called Customer Support, I was told that getting rid of or transferring the phone line would break the one year contract, so I left it as is to retain the BUNDLE and prevent having to pay "an early close account" fee of several hundred dollars.  So why did Ritter Cable Co. cancel the original contract bundle without contacting me and start padding my bill with additional punitive charges?  Or is this some kind of "creative financing" for people with bad credit like Sprint has been doing?

"...In its complaint, the FTC alleges that Sprint placed consumers with lower credit scores in an Account Spending Limit (ASL) program. The ASL program requires consumers to pay a monthly fee of $7.99 in addition to the charges for cell phone and data services.“Sprint failed to give many consumers required information about why they were placed in a more costly program, and when they did, the notice often came too late for consumers to choose another mobile carrier,” said Jessica Rich, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. “Companies must follow the law when it comes to the way they use consumer credit reports and scores.”
Because Sprint allows customers to be billed for services after they are used, they are subject to the requirements of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and its Risk-Based Pricing Rule. The Rule requires that companies inform consumers whenever they are offered service on less favorable terms – such as the ASL program – as a result of information from their credit reports or scores..."

There is no one to contact apparently as the new bill for November is now for $162 for the Internet service ALONE!  Now I also have an additional charge of $10 for "Administrative fee - Cable TV", PLUS $130 for "Residential Cable" service!!  Who is the "administrator" of my cable service?

Thanks for letting me vent!
