I took out a credit card back in 1999 from Providian for a credit limit of 1000. I used the card and paid faithfully on it. However on one payment they claimed that I was late so they added a 25 charge to this and I disputed this and told them to take the charge off. They wouldn't and in the process kept adding fees.

I told them i wouldn't pay for this card until they remedied this problem. They never did and I never paid the card. Tthis dispute went on and it has ruined my credit.

In the years since I have take car loans and other credit cards and paid faithfully even working 2 jobs the last 5 years to keep my credit good. However even though there showed a charge off from Providian on my credit card there now shows that RMJ ACQUISITIONS Has bought this account and they want their money and have kept reporting this to the 3 credit bureaus and it has kept my credit from looking as good as i have wanted it to.

It has been 7 years since this has happened and last year they took me to court to pay this and I still refused and now they are taking me again. When is this going to end. This was a write off 7 years ago and it just keeps showing up and I don't think I am ever going to do anything about this.

Info for Richard, and Marie

Richard,

File FTC complaints on them online, and keep copies. Also send them notices that the debt is uncollectable due to the SOL.

Send all correspondence by certified mail, return reciept requested. Be sure to put the certified# on the letter itself and keep a copy for your records.

You can sue them for each FTC violation that is worth up to $1000 each, plus costs.

Notify each credit bureau that the debt should be removed from your files, as the collection agency has illegally re-aged the debt. And, it cannot be legally listed as a collection account as the SOL has expired. It is legally UNCOLLECTABLE. You cannot have a collection on something that cannot be collected!

As far as debt buying goes, that $1000 debt of that age was purchased for less than one cent on the dollar. It is basically worthless and in a portfolio would be purchased for between $2.50 to $10.00.

The cost to purchase debt is based on how many agencies it has been through, how old it is, and the type of debt. Debts that have been recently charged off and not been through any agency generally sell for 3 to 6 cents on the dollar, and go down in price from there.

Let them sue you, then countersue them for damages to your credit and the cost of the illegal reporting and collections activity.

Don't pay RJM a dime!!

You state this is a legit. debt you had with Providian? Contact Providian in writting and certified, as they sold this debt, or it was stollen information?

Verify if they are seeking payment, yes the SOL (statue of limitations) may be over, it verries from state to state. But if you do choose to pay the debt ONLY pay it to Providian!!

Verify the amount they claim, they may even offer you a settlement amount?

Who took you to court, did you show up? And are those documents even legit? These companies lie!! Produce flse documents, which look like legal forms, and if RJM bought a $1000.00, debt they only paid about $30.00 for it?

Demand in writting, verification or validation of debt.
