Rockenbach Chevrolet Misleading/Predatory Lending Techniques Grayslake Illinois

Recently, I went to purchase a new or used vehicle exactly 3 mos. after a Chpt. 7 BK discharge. I found this particular dealership and have not heard anything bad about them until just recently, again! In a nutshell, the whole situation was a crash and burn deal. Of course after a BK things are tough but I wanted to make a purchase in order to start rebuilding my credit.

I went down there to see, who I thought, was a 'real' fianance person by the name of 'Rich Green' ,come to find out after some asking around, this is some ficticious name just to get you in the dealership. When you arrive and say you have a meeting with 'Rich', a sales person will come over and say 'Rich' stepped out and that he was expecting you but 'I' was asked to help you out.

You go thorugh the credit app. paperwork, then to finance, then you get to look at vehicles (pick out three in this area..etc. etc.), well, I wasn't really looking for NEW, I would have just been fine with USED but they continuously kept bringing you to the new area..even though I said no numerous times and said the payment I was looking for.

All of a sudden, the sales guy comes back with a NEW vehicle, has me take a ride in it, then says I am approved for it. The payment was only a little higher than what I planned but I could definitely afford it. After 3hrs of messing around and then signing the paperwork and even getting a guarantee that the deal was funded, I got to drive off in the new vehicle.

Exactly 24hrs. later I get a call from the Rockenbach finance office (Lorraine) about they are missing some paperwork, and that they need bank statements now, and they need W2's, and that they couldn't understand my salary and paydates (which I still don't know what they were talking about), and that if my regional manager (who I report to) could call them for employment verification. {all things that should have occurred either before I arrived on day one or even when I was on site}. Then they tell me the lender never approved anything, even after all paperwork was signed. I even put a $1000 cash down too, my decision on day one.

So, this next day I am faxing, calling people etc. etc. (burned up nearly 5hrs. of my day), for a whole lot of nothing and a lot of runaround. Then I was told I had to get the vehicle back asap or it would be reported STOLEN!! At this point I was so beside myself that I couldn't take it anymore. I called a number of people asking their advice and even my lawyer.

I know somewhere in the finance department they screwed something up and someone most likely was verbally lashed from the lender and dealership manangement and in turn took it out on me to the point of harrassment. FYI - the vehicle was dropped back off today, at the dealership, I am now vehicle-less (first time ever in my driving life). I called the finance person (Lorraine), and when I told her I was mislead, lied to, and trying to take advantage of someone in a situation of credit rebuilding, she became very irritated and, I quote, said, "we didn't do a d**n thing to you"....wrong!

I am filing a formal complaint with the Illinois Better Business Bureau and I am looking into pursuing something else, possibly on the grounds of defamation, due to being called a 'thief' through numerous, harrassing phone call because they let me leave with the vehicle.

Do not go to this car dealership in Grayslake, Illinois! They are the real thieves and as I research more, it is quite disturbing, the number of complaints out there on them....I definitely learned something in that last couple days!

I guess back to car shopping around work and borrowing my friends vehicle. Please let me know if you have any horror stories about this dealership.
