You do not know me, but my name is Brian. My mother was a school teacher and I understand firsthand what a difficult job teaching is. It requires a dedication to the children far above what a teacher's paycheck would merit.

I'm writing you about a very serious situation involving one of your teachers and how she has allowed a 10 year old girl to be mistreated.

Sometime Monday afternoon, at the beginning of this horrendous heat wave, Ms Christina Lorenzen and her husband Doug Lorenzen, a car salesman at Roper Kia in Joplin, turned off the water to the house of a ten year old neighbor girl. How can a teacher, a person charged by your school system with the welfare of many children endanger the well being of even one child? It is so hot that CNN talked about some year around schools that are canceling classes due to the intense heat in certain areas of the country and Mrs. Lorenzen and her husband left this poor girl without running water for a cool bath or a cold glass of water. Would she refuse a cool drink to a student who was thirsty in this heat?

When this poor girls grandparents determined that there was no way to get Mrs. Lorenzen and her husband to turn the water back on, they determined that they would have to move. So, the poor girl spent Tuesday night, which was her birthday, packing her things to move. Her grandparents informed us that the only place they had to go, was a friends backyard where they could set up their tent and be able to use the bathroom and kitchen inside the house.

Do you think the girl had a happy birthday? NO!!! She was about to cry as she told me about having to pack on her birthday!

Why did Mrs. Lorenzen and her husband turn off the water to this little girls house? Supposedly because the owner of the property and other neighbors on this community well refused to pay an extravagant repair bill for the well, a repair that, with the quote given by Mrs. Lorenzen's husband Doug, was to total no more than $300.

Instead, the total bill was nearly $1000.00 for a 2 feet wide by 3 feet deep by 2 foot tall Dog House built for the pump. Wal-Mart carries a dog house of this size which would only need a small piece of plywood over the door for $79 and change, and this pump house was built out of scrap lumber. Where is the validity in this?

The neighbors and the little girls landlord all refused to pay until they were given receipts for this mysteriously expensive Dog House. Mrs. Lorenzen and her husband both refused to respond to the requests for the receipts. How can an educator and her husband justify refusing to discuss an unrealistic bill and simply turn off the water to a poor girl with no recourse?

If that isn't heartless enough, one of the other neighbors whose water was turned off is diabetic man in a wheelchair.

Has Mrs. Lorenzen ever displayed this side of herself to her students? How would they perceive these actions? How would their parents react if she treated her students (their children) with this kind of malice and disregard? I hope this letter is not falling on deaf ears. I hope that you will consider how she has treated this poor girl when you evaluate her treatment of students.

Now, the Lorenzens are threatening to foreclose on the property they sold to the diabetic man because he refused to pay their exorbitant repair bill, even though his certified requests for receipts went unanswered and ignored. How would this same salesman treat you after you bought a car from him?
