Roxio Underhanded and deceptive business practice of causing a customer to pay more for software than a non-customer Novato California

I researched for several weeks before buying CD/DVD authoring software. I decided on Roxio Media Creator. At the time only version 9 was available. I was very, very specific in my search to insure that version 10 was not available prior to buying version 9. I bought version 9 and it took 2 days to arrive. I installed it and upon the very first time I opened the application I was confronted with an offer to upgrade to version 10!

I looked at the offer and it was going to be more than if I had bought version 10 outright. I attempted to return the software but was not allowed to since I had already installed it. I wrote Roxio, and wrote, and wrote, and wrote. They will not budge. I own a lot of software and I sent them example after example of other companys offering free upgrades if you bought the old version within 30 to 60 days of the release of a new version. I wrote the BBB of Marin County California. I will be writing the Attorney General too. I even sent a picture showing both versions in a store and their prices to prove that my upgrade price would be more than the selling price. Their upgrade price added to what I paid for the old version would be more than the price of the new version...even on their website!

This company has absolutely poor customer service and obviously bases some of their profit margins on consumers caught in the same predicament as me. Ripoff company! I understand their version 8 was full of bugs and I can say that version 9 has some also but now there is version 10 and the likelyhood of them fixing bugs in version 9 is slim to none...of course one can upgrade for thirty dollars more than price of version 10 off the shelf. RIPOFF!
