Someone came to my door and sold me an ADT Monitored Security System. The sales guy said, "You'll be a model home, so we'll install the equipment for free". Sounded great, so we signed up and locked ourselves into a 3 year contract, the biggest mistake ever made. Ever since the beginning, we have had problem after problem. Our problems include the system not working at all, incorrect phone numbers on the account, when we bought a new home, they didn't update our address, billing issues, incorrect passwords, etc. 

I told them I just want to cancel my account and get out of the contract. On their website, which you can find at this url: http://www.safeco-security.com/safeco-about.asp, they clearly state the following:

"ADT Money-Back Service Guarantee: Refunds the system installation prices and pays all monitoring fees if the homeowner isn't satisfied within six months of installation. - Hassle-Free."

I am still in my 6 months and have tried to cancel twice. Both times, they tell me I cannot cancel and that the website is incorrect. They say that you can only cancel if they cannot fix the problem! Otherwise, you can pay 75% of the remaining contract and get out that way.

I just want to warn everyone to stay clear of this company as they are dishonest, have very poor service, very unprofessional installation techs and will all-around screw you over. Oh by the way, when I got a new phone number, I called to update it and that is when I found out that my ADT system has been tied to my old address for the past 4 months and ADT corporate told me that the authorized dealer had messed everything up and I need to contact them. Upon contacting them, they said I need to contact ADT direct. I had to call ADT back, get a supervisor and get on a 3-way call with Safeco so that ADT could tell them that they DO own my contract and have to handle my issues.

In short, stay away from them. I'd be happy to share more details with anyone wondering or experiencing the same problems.

How To Get Away From Safeco Security

Hi Sally,

I have spent the past 2 months trying to get away from them. I eventually got to the president of the company, Craig McClure, which is located in Texas. After repeatedly asking for the president's info, I finally got it when I asked to discuss the upcoming lawsuit with him. Over the phone, he said (summarized) "I'm sorry, we really dropped the ball, we're going to fix it and give you the service free for the rest of your contract". Needless to say, after we hung up, I never heard back from him, they never fixed it and I'm still in the same boat. I called several times and was sent to voicemail. I sent several emails and received no reply.

I sent him one final message:

"Hi Craig,

I just left you a voicemail, but wanted to send this so
you have it in writing as well. Apparently, you are not a man of your word as
you tried to express to me on the phone a few weeks ago. You have not stepped up
to take care of the problems your company has caused. I am moving forward with
taking your company to court in Pasco County, FL for the civil charges and
SAFECO SECURITY FLORIDA, INC. and NAME REMOVED (SALESMAN) will be contacted by the
Pasco County Sheriff's department / the Florida Attorney General to proceed with
the criminal charges.

Good luck to you and your company.

Sincerely,
Tony"

After sending that, he responded with:

"Tony,
AS of 10/5/11 SAFECO Security will release you from your contract. We will coordinate a time with you to retrieve the equipment from the house.

Please let us know when we can come rip the equipment out.

They have not continued to bill us but are not giving us a refund. It is roughly $300-$400 in fees I've paid, and most of them didn't even have the system at the right address. I gave them 2 weeks to give me the refund and they have not so I will be filing in small claims this week.

I recommend that you contact the Hillsborough County Consumer Protection Agency, they have been working with me on this case and have been great. Even though they have no jursidiction in my case because the sale was in Pasco, they are still guiding me. Also contact the Dept. of Business or Professional Regulations (DBPR) in Tallahassee to file a complaint. They are still investigating my case, but they have the authority to do anything they feel necessary, including revoking their business license. I would give you the contact info for my contacts at each organization, but I do not wish to publicly post their information. I can tell you that if they sold it to you on a door to door sale, the chances are their salesman did not have a permit and therefore the contract is void. That is the smoking gun that both organizations have told me. They said usually, it doesn't go past the request for release, but I guess Safeco Security thinks they are special and are willing to fight to the death to keep you under contract. Good luck to you.

I was wondering if there is a way for me to contact TOny. I too have the same thing done to me by Safeco Security. I would like to know if there is anything i can do to get out of this deal.
